Listener comments!

  5:33pm Parq:

DrumSum playing South African music = happy. Following Mike Watt's gloriously disjointed set on BT? Magic.
  5:35pm Drummer Some:

Hola Brother Parq!
  5:54pm marcury:

Musique du Sud Afrique, Oh Happy Day!
  5:55pm Drummer Some:

Marcury is here—oh Happy Day!
  6:01pm listener james from westwood:

Any more room on this flight to So. Africa? I've only got this one bag.
  6:06pm Drummer Some:

Please have your tray tables and seat-backs in their original and upright positions, Listener James!
  6:07pm listener james from westwood:

Who needs an in-flight movie when I've got the perfect soundtrack right here?
  6:08pm Tex:

Everything I learned about South African music I learned flying with Drummer Some!
  6:09pm Drummer Some:

No quiz today, lads. Class on the quad!
  6:09pm Ike:

Oh boy oh boy oh boy.
  6:12pm Cecile:

hola, Doug. The best music to pack up and go home to.
  6:13pm Evan:

I hear ya, Tex! I owe a lot to Doug and this little show of his, but introducing me to the music of South Africa is certainly near the top of the list.
  6:13pm Drummer Some:

Howdy Cecile. Pack carefully. (Don't put the live chicks at the bottom of the satchel.)
  6:22pm Parq:

This doesn't sound even a little bit like Fred Schneider ...
  6:22pm Drummer Some:

Dontcha just love the B-52's cover of this?
  6:22pm Drummer Some:

Beat me to it Parq.
  6:26pm Parq:

Speaking of obstreperous punk rock, DrumSum, if you were babysitting the feed while waiting to start, you need to go dig the archive of Mike Watt's set on Brian's show. Just great.
  6:26pm Cecile:

I won't. LOL! Talk at you next week - if I'm late to work. :D
  6:28pm Three Days Left:

Mr. Drummer Some, your show & this beer made filing taxes somewhat bearable.
  6:31pm Drummer Some:

Ah yes, taxes. You don't have to worry. The assets gained during this show are an allowable deduction (provided you invest them toward some form of capital gains within the next 29 minutes).
  6:32pm listener james from westwood:

Sent out my estimated quarterly taxes during Trouble's show earlier. FMU makes even that task less loathsome.
  6:33pm Robert:

Sounds like they're singing, "Hoser!"
  6:34pm Drummer Some:

Come to think of it, Parq, Mike Watt was live on my show about 15 years ago. I was interviewing someone else on the phone and Mike grabbed it and chatted when he learned it was patched through to WFMU. Can't remember who the original interview was though!
  6:35pm Hugo:

We ought to hear at least one version of "Mra" in the course of this programme, imho.
  6:36pm Chicolini:

Dallas. That's where my uncle lives. Dallas, Texas.
  6:36pm Amanda:

Haha! I love the album title "Our Boys Are Doing It."
  6:39pm Drummer Some:

Not sure if any form of "Mra" has been posted at Electric Jive. I am spotlighting that blog's offerings exclusively. But you are right about that particular track, Hugo. One of my all-time anthems.

Amanda, this album title was a thinly veiled act of sedition. The record companies were all white-owned and all the recorded material had to be vetted by the censors. This album title was a message loud and clear to the revolutionary blood pumping in the hearts of many—unbeknownst to the authorities.
  6:41pm listener james from westwood:

Look at Chicolini. He sits there alone ... an abject figure.
  6:42pm Mike East:

Hey tax folks...I had the same feeling listening to Transpacific Sound Paradise on Sunday. Its proven that beer and WFMU makes taxes more bearable!
6:42pm The Duke of Steyning James Alexander Cameron:

"Woza" was a princely song. seriously good. the right kind of right.

P.s. i Love "Hunter's Palace" very much
  6:43pm Parq:

@James from WW: Don't let that fool you. He really is an idiot.
  6:45pm marcury:

Viva La Drummer Some!
  6:46pm listener james from westwood:

BTW, Groucho Marx is an awesome workplace Halloween costume. It's an all-day wiseass license.
  6:49pm Drummer Some:

I find this Flaming Souls so Booker T and the MGs-ish.
  6:53pm Marmalade kitty:

Great stuff!
  6:54pm Drummer Some:

Hear hear, Kitty! (Here, Kitty Kitty.)
  6:55pm Fredericks:

This is magnificent!
  6:57pm Drummer Some:

I play tons of this South Africa magnificence on my Friday morning show. over on WFMU's alt stream Give the Drummer Radio. The show airs live every Friday, 9-noon (ET). Come visit.
  6:58pm And Richards:

Mmmmm.
  6:59pm Paul Simon:

I ain't got nuthin on you, me and Julio!
  7:00pm listener james from westwood:

Whoo! Too brief a vacation, as always. I hope I can get all this music back through Customs! Thanks, Doug!!
  7:00pm Hugo:

@Doug: You'll find "Mra" at the other blog, Flat International. Tip: Gwigwi
  7:01pm Fredericks:

I shall investigate!
  4:36am Chris:

Thanks for the love Doug - it really keeps us blogging, really it does - chris at electric jive
