Listener comments!

  9:12pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Good evening Martha.
  9:15pm
dave:

Less Motion: setting a new bar in google-proofing a band.
  9:15pm
Martha:

Hello All!
  9:17pm
?:

Hey! good evening Martha, Richard, Dave..and all!!
  9:17pm
dave:

also, it's a sign of just what a typical aggressively monoglot american i am that it took me 'til the chorus to figure out what song "noche y dia" was.
  9:18pm
?:

琵琶 三味線 cool!
  9:20pm
Marmalade Kitty:

??oops a daisy!
  9:20pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Randy Rhoads, Maestro.
  9:21pm
Martha:

I hate it when technology betrays me!
  9:28pm
dave:

lich king never gets old. odd, given it's based on a game system from a quarter century ago.
  9:31pm
dave:

my reaction to lich king probably has something to do with the fact that the pace and tone of it goes straight to the massive hunk of my brain that is dedicated to surviving boss fights.
  9:32pm
dave:

... and sorry for the spam, but i love love love this la roux song and i'm not ashamed to say it. i blame trent.
  9:33pm
Richard from Venezuela:

La Roux track is good. Terrific to enjoying on the dance floor.
  9:37pm
Marmalade Kitty:

God..! well I can't stand La Roux! (DJKeili played some earlier!) Rubbish!
  9:38pm
Martha:

Something to be said - yes very MUCH to be said - for music that hit's that reptilian part of our brains...
  9:38pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Hi Marmalade.
  9:39pm
Martha:

Ah - but is in Pseu B.'s Premium! How can I disagree too much!~?! Plus I have not idea who/it they are...
  9:39pm
Marmalade Kitty:

sorry for outburst I have an intolerant reaction to this music
  9:41pm
Martha:

Kool! Am totally into intolerant and even irrational reactions to music - that is most of my repertoire!
  9:43pm
dave:

i think la roux provokes that reaction in most sensible people. i still think it's a fantastic song.
  9:43pm
david:

wet wolf wow
  9:44pm
Marmalade Kitty:

I was struck with a loathing of ABBA aged 3 ..? I can't help it. I have come round a bit though.
  9:48pm
T-Zero:

I like La Roux, so consider me unreasonable... I like 80s synthpop
  9:49pm
T-Zero:

Heh, Abba.. I've begun to come around on them too
  9:51pm
Marmalade Kitty:

a lot of love for la roux from otherwise sensible people..? I won't be swayed though
  9:52pm
T-Zero:

I was just tuning in when La Roux came on... must admit I didn't expect that on this program.
  10:02pm
Richard from Venezuela:

and this is the best thing of this show. A constant music surprise.
  10:03pm
Marmalade Kitty:

love this by Nikki Sudden :)
  10:05pm
Shana:

Enjoying the dreamy Nikki Sudden, but sad I missed the Nekrofilth, will have to catch up with that later...
  10:07pm
david:

Some pirate girls are bigger than other pirate girls' mothers
  10:08pm
Martha:

Thanks all for checking in - stand your ground! And don't worry, the pop will be over soon. I think.
  10:10pm
dave:

part of why i think la roux is better than they get credit for is that it's not like they're just taking some craptacular late-model eurodisco off the shelf and slapping a little casiotone on it in order to cash in on the 80s synth revivalism thing -- they're writing really good pop songs that happen to sound like the 80s.

there's probably similar things to say about bands like pharoah overlord and maybe even lich king, though, well, that's a bit jokier.

and that's my little master's thesis on la roux. my dissertation work will demonstrate that "the fame" is this generation's "pet sounds".
  10:10pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Just enjoying the show! And a late beer before bed calls me.. 03:11am here you know!
  10:10pm
Richard from Venezuela:

According to this: http://goo.gl/6sgt4 , the Radiation City track is called: Mammals.

By the way, i didnt know this. Good song.
  10:15pm
Marmalade Kitty:

craptacular.. I like that :)
  10:16pm
david:

La Roux is like the ______ of GOP candidates
  10:19pm
Martha:

I have to take this moment to ask you to support WFMU - my show or just the station in particular - you can click on the pledge icon on the top of the playlist page and donate to whatever you like! - we've got a new t-shirt plus the Sun Ra re-issue CD and of course you can raid our premium bins from the past - but please support freeform radio if you can!
  10:23pm
sadlo:

the term would be more intuitive in reference to 'metal with vocals of a guy straining to take a crap'
  10:28pm
Martha:

Sadlo - w/rt which tune? - am curious!
  10:30pm
Martha:

WOW! - I had no idea La Roux was such a touch point. I had no idea who they were when I played the track - thought they were some left-over 80-s thing.. - glad you are all here to teach me -
  10:31pm
Marmalade Kitty:

I'm reminded of the South Park episode with Bono and the biggest crap world record
  10:31pm
Martha:

Yes - the Nikki Sudden posthumous release was something I didn't really want to touch but then I listened to it and it was wonderful -
  10:32pm
Martha:

Shana - I had no idea you guys were so hardcore!
  10:33pm
Martha:

And if you haven't figured it out - we are in the wanky part of the show -
  10:34pm
ratbone:

scraang draaaank squeech... lullin me to sleep here. i catch the rest in the archive. good show and good night,r
  10:35pm
sadlo:

w/rt none, i detected no craptacularness
  10:35pm
dave:

well, "bulletproof" and "in for the kill" were pretty huge, i think, and they definitely hit just as the 80s synth nostalgia thing seemed to be blowing up. also, i think there's still a lot of residual anger over the controversy that erupted when elly jackson's hair was the first piece of late-period postmodernist architecture added to the national register of historic places.
  10:36pm
Martha:

Hey Dave - good little thesis - agree, hypocritical to like the bands that sound like what you liked in the past but then dump on the ones that sound like what you though was sh*t -
  10:36pm
Shana:

Hardcore hardcore, or hardcore Martha fans? ;)
  10:37pm
sadlo:

*craptacularity
  10:38pm
Marmalade Kitty:

I must have been sleeping and missed the 80s synth nostalgia thing blowing up ..oh well
  10:42pm
dave:

oh, it definitely blew up. it was all over the news. killed a few dozen people, if i recall correctly. it would've been worse, but a bunch of people were shielded by a few million unsold mark ronson albums.
  10:43pm
T-Zero:

"...when elly jackson's hair was the first piece of late-period postmodernist architecture added to the national register of historic places". Now *that* was too funny.
  10:47pm
Martha:

dave - awesome comment - also T-Zero - BUT I WILL PROVE YOU WRONG - THEY ARE STILL OUT THERE...
  10:50pm
T-Zero:

@Dave: I actually didn't know of La Roux until I saw "In for the kill" on Austin City Limits.
  10:50pm
dave:

i missed seeing prince rama by mere hours in marfa texas about 2 weeks ago. can't wait to make up for it at the rekkid fair.
  10:50pm
sadlo:

ok, what about neon indian. is that the style? so we're on the same pg.
  10:53pm
Shana:

thanks for the show & have a great nigh allt! gotta turn in after this Damned cover...
  10:58pm
Marmalade Kitty:

did "pop will eat itself" PWEI reach US shores? they did a good song called Bulletproof!
  11:03pm
Marmalade Kitty:

goodnight Shana!! I too will turn in! goodnight y'all! Great show thanks Martha!
  11:06pm
T-Zero:

Bulletproof was a big hit, MK

Goodnight.
  11:20pm
sadlo:

damn, i must go back through to hear la roux. short-term musical memory fails me again
  11:20pm
jeff-m:

enjoying it Martha, good "sound" company while I try and figure out sound computer things
  11:39pm
Martha:

Hey Jeff - thanks for checking in - and all the rest, have a great night - and if I can add - please support 'FMU! PWEI got to these shores but I think a bittoo late to be generally licked up by most collegiate radio stations - and Marfa, well, that used to be my nickname - and sometimes still is - didn't know they were hosting show out there - thought it was still too out of the way
  11:40pm
T-Zero:

Night, Martha. Enjoyed the program.
  11:41pm
T-Zero:

Doh. Wasn't paying attention. Thought you were signing off, but it's not yet midnight.
  11:44pm
Martha:

Well - you can sign off - and thanks again - everyone - for all the comment sand support -
  11:54pm
Martha:

Thanks all for the good words, the information, the supportive comments - and of course for supporting WFMU freeform radio - see you/hear you/read you next week! Thanks for listening - MP.S. Def gonna check out that La Roux band before then -
  11:55pm
dave:

really liking burnt hills... they seem to share more similarities than just the name with white hills, and that's no bad thing.
  11:56pm
dave:

also, fantastic show as usual, and i apologize in advance if you hate la roux as much as marmalade kitty does.
  12:02am
Martha:

Hey Dave - Thanks for checking in - no worries about La Roux - I though they were some old80s band! And, yes similarities <> Burnt Hills and White Hills is true has some similarities tho' Burnt Hills is very sui generis from the upper parts of NYS - a great vibe -
