That figurine is cracking me up. But I kinda feel like a more local listener should go for it.

jeff, the phone person left out the most important thing, I was outside Shea at Worlds Fair when the Beatles played and heard the concert

...for instance - I wish I could've heard Roy Orbison sing The Smithereens' 'Strangers When We Meet', because I can imagine that easily...

- What a memory jeffrey! When I think of the energy of the early Beatles - I think of them honing their craft in Hamburg on Preludin - cheap speed (& Lennon saying the early Beatles were on pills - which is stronger drugs than marijuana anyway!)
- & then Sir Macca saying it's easy to observe how hyper-adrenalized the early Beatlemania-era performances were - speaking of tempos speeding up - as everything was played really really fast - & that's part of why their shows were so short - bangbang...

Let's just throw the gauntlet out: Was Keith Moon the greatest RawkDrummer - ?!?

Caryn:

@RRN63: hmm, I think if we think of both music and rocker personality, Moon might win (primarily for the personality). I might vote for John Bonham. Great wrist control, which I like in a drummer.

"Hang Fire" - one great Watts example.

i pledged to Chris last week - if you love Chris step up now!

I just love Charlie Watts' persona. The Buster Keaton of drummers. And he collects cars, but can't drive. He just likes to sit in them or look at them. I really respond to that.

Ringo & Charlie - underrated. Ask Keith Richards what Charlie means. The book 'Tell Me Why' by Tim Riley breaks all the Beatles' songs down, & spells out what Ringo does. The Link on a recent tweet on the homepage puts it this way: The Beatles recorded (all those - 200??) songs - & how many have bad drumming? Exactly zero.

- The Bonham vs. Moon thing can't avoid the Wh♂ vs. Zep thing - all highly freighted. Bonham is mighty - Mighty! - but I stump for Moon's Innovativeness - changed Rawk Drumming completely - & much less Conventional - very Expressive & Exciting !!

...Charlie Watts collects Civil War stuff & Suits - to me that always spoke to the English approach to Blues & the the entire enterprise, if you know what I mean...

Here's the BBC thing about Ringo the homepage tweet linked to : www.bbc.com...
