Is that from the T.A.M.I. Show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45am Doug Schulkind:

Beats me Gary, but if it is, I should've waited to use the gif on October 28, which will be the 50th anniversary of the T.A.M.I. Show.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:47am Gary:

Oh, wow, that's right! I saw the film for the first time about five years ago and was (as you'd imagine) totally blown away
Avatar 🥁 8:47am duke:

I caught the Stanley Bros. on the stream a few minutes ago. I'm trying to imagine Ralph and Carter dancing like JB or JB and the Famous Flames doing Stanley Bros. harmonies. We need more crossover.

I'll be airing a "soul singers go country" set during today's show.

@Doug Wonderful!
There was a lot of crossover between R&B and country back in the day.

Hopping into the shower ... will be quick, but don't unleash any Xtreme Awesomeness w/out me!
Avatar 8:53am glenn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54am Doug Schulkind:

Sadly, the crossover tends to cross over mostly from marginalized to mainstream.

Fingers x'd, annie. Good morning pilar wherever you are!
  9:03am Mr C:

You engage the audience before the show?? Man..James Brown used to come out and play organ as the band warmed up and the crowd filed in. An early Doug influence.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:31am Gary:

When Lomax died, Dave Marsh wrote the most mean-spirited obit I've ever read, for CounterPunch. When I wrote to them with several fact-checking things that Marsh had gotten wrong (attributed to Alan things his father'd done, for instance), the CounterPunch editor called me an asshole. Marsh was upset, but a bit more of a gentleman about it. (He at least admitted he'd gotten a few things -- more than a few things, actually -- wrong. Though he still maintained that Lomax was an evil human being.
  9:40am Mr C:

King Records Syd Nathan was fond of mixing and matching his country and R&B copyrights, sometimes to funny and bizarre effect: Stanley Brothers doing Hank Ballard's "Finger Poppin Time".

Phil Ochs and 60s WBAI - I wasn't there, but I can imagine the scene.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:16am Uncle Michael:

Everything I know about WBAI is from either the Bob Fass documentary or from present day mishigas from my friends that are involved with Pacifica.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Doug Schulkind:

I have a number of connections to late-golden age WBAI. I grew up listening to WPFW, the Pacifica station in Washington DC. A very different vibe, but an amazing one. I owe my life in radio to the inspiration I got from WPFW.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Webhamster Henry:

The late Steve Post wrote a book called "Playing in the FM Band" about 60s-70s WBAI, which is very funny. And speaking of late WBAI DJs, my friend Peter Schmideg died suddenly last Saturday, he had a show called Oblique Strategies which I was on a few times.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:20am Uncle Michael:

I still hear very good things (it's not dysfuctional) about WPFW from both listeners in the DC area and people steeped in the Pacifica wars.

Hallloooooo, βrian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Webhamster Henry:

In the 80s , late WFMU DJ Citizen Kafka was on WBAI, and also ran the revived Free Music Store live music shows, which brought back a bit of the 60s/70s WBAI feel. You can get a good idea of Kafka from the Citizen Kafka/Wretched Refuse String Band shows in Irene's archives.
Avatar 10:24am ndbob:

I loved Kafka on Secret Museum of the Air - once had a long, entertaining phone conversation with him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am Doug Schulkind:

For a while, Kafka and Pat Conte brought Secret Museum to WFMU. The show was great great great, but Kafka was a bit too embittered at that point to really enjoy himself.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Doug Schulkind:

I'm still trying to get the hang of this radio stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Webhamster Henry:

The Coltrane family has impeded numerous vital projects. They (Alice) was no on board with the Tell Me How Long Trane's Been Gone for a long time before it finally got made/aired. Hello Doug, holidaying in the country to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Just bought Lili a new wedding ring as the original has split for the second time. I have not split, still here. Take care my friend.

Much blessings to you, Brian and Lili!
