The blog Oro (orogod.blogspot.com) has been sharing the amazing Beninoise funk over the years. Not sure how active the links are in the archives, but it's worth investigating. One of the BEST blogs ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 12:48pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, Dougbé!

Hi hi hi, @coelacanth!
  Mon. 11/24/14 1:02pm Zordić:

How revolting to see Ofili's nemesis, Giuliani, rearing his ugly, racist talking head in the Ferguson conversation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:03pm Jeff Golick:

Agreed, Zordić. Seems even grosser than usual from Rudy. Plus ca change.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:05pm Jeff Golick:

Any listeners know off-hand if Teo edited this "Sivad" cut for the album, or if we're hearing it as played?

  Mon. 11/24/14 1:07pm Santos L Halper:

Pretty sure everything on that was edited, Jeff. Can find full versions on the awesome Cellar Door box.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:09pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, Santos L Halper. Makes sense, given the familiar-sounding bits and pieces.
Avatar Mon. 11/24/14 1:09pm coelacanth:

'been listening in the shower.(i hope my neighbors like it!) And Jeff i think i've heard your program only once before "live" ;(& even now i must leave before long...)but i'm sure i've yet to tell you that the marathon premium is Excellent!
Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:10pm Doug Schulkind:

@12539
Same crazyass batshit jazz time. Same crazyass batshit jazz channel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:11pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @coelacanth! Props also to co-pilot Jeff J for that comp.
Avatar Mon. 11/24/14 1:11pm Jeff J:

Anyone know who that was vocalizing on the track? The credits aren't much help in this case.
  Mon. 11/24/14 1:12pm Santos L Halper:

@Jeff J: On the Miles? Probably Airto. Responsible for lots of exotic sounds in that group...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:12pm Doug Schulkind:

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO PROGRAMMING ALERT...
And now for something completely different: Jeff Golick has a second show on the Drummer Stream that airs Wednesdays mornings, 9-10am. Tune in and get ExtraJeffed™!
Avatar Mon. 11/24/14 1:13pm Jeff J:

Santos - Acc. to the credits, Airto isn't on that track. Wondering if maybe it's Jarrett letting loose?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:15pm pacific standard simon:

6-7 AM Pacific Standard Time...
  Mon. 11/24/14 1:16pm Santos L Halper:

Ha, probably so. I remember first getting into Keith's solo stuff and thinking "what the hell is that noise"!?
Avatar Mon. 11/24/14 1:17pm coelacanth:

...actually,Doug, Thanks to you also for at least a couple of premiums -going back to before i,at least, was on the internet.
Avatar Mon. 11/24/14 1:17pm coelacanth:

i think i need that "cellar door box".
Avatar Mon. 11/24/14 1:22pm Jeff J:

Coelacanth - That Cellar Door set is very worth getting. Your wallet may be sorry, but you won't be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:22pm Doug Schulkind:

@coelacanth
I did my first WFMU marathon premium in 1988. My first 10, at least, were all on cassette.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:22pm Jeff Golick:

The reissue of Dogon A.D. on International Phonograph is highly recommended. www.discogs.com...
Avatar Mon. 11/24/14 1:27pm coelacanth:

Jeff J yeah,i guess that goes on my "some day" list.

Doug i may have a cassette! I cannot look now,but i do have a few wfmu cassettes. I know i have "children of the corn"...& "roots of chicha"-was that yours?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:30pm Doug Schulkind:

Children of the Corn is mine. Roots of Chicha was a commercial release from the folks at Barbes. (And a mighty excellent collection.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:35pm Brian in UK:

So what's the SP on the James Brown bio flic?
Avatar Mon. 11/24/14 1:36pm confused,obviously:

i must've won that one on fmu,then.
i remember writing "thanks to...",as is my habit,in my list of albums.
  Mon. 11/24/14 1:44pm Santos L Halper:

@ Brian UK: SP? JB flick well worth seeing IMO, if only for the recreation of a chunk of the Paris show from Love Power Peace CD. Great lead performance. Takes liberties, but that's Hollywood.
Avatar Mon. 11/24/14 1:45pm coelacanth:

"Garvey's Ghost" was the beginning of a long Love-affair with reggae.
Brilliant program Jeff -Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:49pm Jeff Golick:

You're welcome, @coelcanth - from both Jeffs!

The movie I'm curious about/scared of is the Miles biopic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:51pm Brian in UK:

Santos L Halper SP Starting Price (What's it worth in the vernacular) Thanks.
The lead got good reviews'
Last week was possibly the best week for films this year over here. Hunger Games do not apply.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:52pm Doug Schulkind:

The UK release on Freedom called Reflections is a Hemphill session from 1975 featuring Hemphill, Black Arthur Blythe, Abdul Wadud, Barry Altschul, Daniel Ben Zebulon and "Maniet Bluiett." Tacked on to the end of the disc is "The Hard Blues" from the '72 session that produced Dogon A.D.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 1:57pm Doug Schulkind:

I can wait to hear how you pronounce Gymnopédie!! (no pressure)
  Mon. 11/24/14 1:57pm Santos L Halper:

@JeffG: yeah, I love Don Cheadle; we'll see if he's badass enough to play Miles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 2:00pm Doug Schulkind:

Tomorrow IS a Tape Hiss Tuesday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/24/14 2:02pm Jeff Golick:
