Marcel M:

Morning Chris and friends

Ah! One of my favorite paintings. I got to go to the Gustave Moreau museum in Paris last year. It is in his old studio/apartment that has basically been preserved from when he lived there. It was incredible. The most famous version of L'Apparition is in a "private room" at The Louvre, and they wouldn't pull it out for me. One needs to make an appointment in advanced apparently...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am
Polyus:

This week's image is simply fantastic, btw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am
Marcel M:

I only went to the damned Louvre to see this one painting and I couldn't dammit. I was so overwhelmed there I just left and went and drank wine and eat goose liver and other weird French stuff. Which was much better than walking around the Louvre all confused like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am
Polyus:

@Marcel - thanks for the info. I have not seen it before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am
Greg from Bloomfield:

Yo Marcel!
Had a similar experience at the Loov-ruh. Nobody tells you ahead of time that you need three weeks to see the whole thing.
  10:14am
Kevlicki:

You did say Bardo Pond! When I was teenage Punk Rock Kevin I fell asleep at a BP show, on the floor at the Middle East in Boston. I think Avail and Citizen Fish had played, downstairs, and I couldn't stay awake for the indie rock.

On the other hand Melt banana puts on one of the most ecstatic and fun live sets
Avatar 10:14am
d¢ pät:

I know what you mean Marcel M. Something similar happened to me at the Philly Museum of Art. I wasn't prepared for how much stuff they have there and found myself moving faster and faster so I could see more. Kind of freaked out at the end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am
Greg from Bloomfield:

This song is good.

You could spend your life in the Louvre - & that's but one Museum in Paris. Why did I not just wander in the evenings? Yerknow - Paris...
Avatar 10:16am
d¢ pät:

I'm going to try to work up enough energy to go see Downtown Boys tonight...
  10:18am
Kevlicki:

@Dc pat did you catch any of the shows where they covered Devos "uncontrollable urge"?
That
Was
Incredible
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am
Marcel M:

@Greg/DC PAT: Yes Museams can be super overwhelming, especially The Louvre. Only had a few days in Paris so we said fuck it! Too much to tackle. Went to smaller museums. Def need a plan when you go there.

@Polyus: Happy to pass on the info. I really love Moreau. My icon is a painting of his actually, and if you click my profile, you'll see another one of my favorites. Very haunting. He mixed biblical imagery and symbolism with Greek and Roman.
Avatar 10:19am
d¢ pät:

Did not, @Kevlicki, dammit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am
Marcel M:

Proust loved him and wrote an essay on him which I purchased at his museum, but I cannot read French and cannot find it in English.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am

And now I will shut up about him! Rock on dudes.

Avatar 10:25am

@dc pat I was living in Austin at the time and we heard they'd be covering it.
During their encore when we expected it, the belted out the opening riff of Lenny Kravitz's are you gonna go my way. Everyone stopped dancing and was super confused.
They immediately changed and sang,
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeh!
promtping the whole venue to freak out.

I used to know some riotgrrrl types from Massachusetts and they were in a group called MOSHTROGEN, because they liked to mosh, and were full of estrogen. Awkward name, but proved to me that being in a pit didn't have to mean getting kicked in the head. I'm retired now.

Avatar 10:33am

They became mosh pits after I was done with them. We just slammed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am

I'm often trying to light a joint in the area where pits break out. I'm like some fried hippy trying to groove out at a metal show and then everyone starts punching each other all around me.

Chris M, do you remember a label called Aesthetics, originally from Chicago in the late 90's.
I remember the friend that brought me to that Bardo Pond gig, Ken Dyber, eventually started that label.
I lost track and touch with him forever ago tho

What a coincidence, Michael Gira is the most effective pit breaker-upper I have ever seen.
