Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:01pm βrian:

Which city is beer city, Kirk?
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:02pm Eli:

Late to the party, and really sad I missed the Jackson Sisters, but, is this the normal yearly drive? Or did Larry Bunsfeld blow up the transmitter or something?
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:02pm Claw!:

AWESOME show so far, Duane! Loving these covers!
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:03pm kirk from beer city usa:

There's probably several of them by now, Brian - we won one of those non-scientific polls a couple of years ago. However, I am glad to live here (Grand Rapids, MI), since there is a shitload of great beer to drink.
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:04pm Duane:

Hey ELi:) Welcome abourd..it's not the big one..it's just a silent fundraiser..there are still cool prizes though:)
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:07pm Eli:

Got it!
  Wed. 10/7/15 1:07pm Greg Red:

Ola! in case Prince fans haven't seen this:
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:10pm βrian:

Never would have guessed GR. What happened to the furniture? (Never mind, I know, I know.)
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:10pm Eli:

YES!!! You put me on to this version. Recently there was an epic stoney dance party to it in my living room.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 1:11pm blee:

This Broken Wings cover is so damn fresh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 1:12pm Kat in Chicago:

This is one of those covers that makes you realize there was actually a decent song hiding under the original production.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 1:13pm Kat in Chicago:

Although this break is kind of goofy
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:14pm kirk from beer city usa:

Brian - Herman Miller still makes the good stuff
  Wed. 10/7/15 1:14pm rf:

great! sax!

BLT always comes correct.

The Complain Train. lol ;-)
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:38pm JakeGould:

Logged in specifically to say this “Walk the Night” is pretty amazing.
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:38pm JakeGould:

@Claw!: The Kvetch Coach.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 1:38pm Kat in Chicago:

Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:41pm JakeGould:

Trinidad Tripoli Steel Band? I thought this was Esso? Same difference?
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:43pm Jshatan:

Now this is hot. Go Thelma!
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:47pm PKNY:

G'TZAG, Duane & and 'Iacs! This might be the most upbeat cover of "Fire and Rain" I've ever heard.
  Wed. 10/7/15 1:48pm Ari:

Ummm...not quite sure this interpretation quite gets at the essence of the song...groovy though...
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:52pm Jshatan:

Carolyn was even hotter - burn, baby, burn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 1:53pm SeanG:

Yeah dude!
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:53pm PKNY:

Alright, a Shaftman classic right here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 1:54pm KRYPT:

Hiya Duane, been listening to your DJ Marcelle show on archive, and forgot to tune in live, duh!
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:56pm βrian:

Definitely "kiss dis guy," in this case.
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 1:58pm Duane:

Hi Krypt!!! Getting all amped up for her pending face melting set i presume:)
  Wed. 10/7/15 2:07pm Ari:

Would I get into trouble if I said that the Chicago original is funkier?
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 2:08pm Eli:

This is great
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 2:10pm Duane:

Ari, i think they're both equally as funky. THe OG by Chicago was a big early Harlem disco anthem, if you can imagine that:)
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 2:11pm Jshatan:

Ever heard Holly Miranda do this? Blows the doors off. And makes you cry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 2:11pm KRYPT:

@Duane, precisely :)
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 2:11pm Parq:

Krypt, I've done that. Sometimes WFMU presents such an abundance of content that it's just a little too much choice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 2:12pm Carmichael:

Heya Duane and old soul hand clappers.
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 2:12pm bobdoesthings:

just hopped the fence and snuck onto the duane train when it stopped at the last station break.. hey all
  Wed. 10/7/15 2:15pm Ari:

Duane, as per our recent convo, I can imagine that. If Rare Earth was rocking the b-boys, then Chicago (on certain tracks) could certainly rock their older siblings in the discos. The horns are great (as with a lot of disco and larger funk ensembles) and the Cetera/Seraphine rhythm section is tight as heck (underrated, even).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 2:21pm Kat in Chicago:

Went to a meeting and the organizer didn't even show up. Grr. Awfully curious about the salsa Spoon cover I missed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 2:24pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I hope the refreshment car has frosty chocolate milkshakes today.
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 2:26pm Jshatan:

Marcia taking JL to JA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 2:27pm Mike East:

I'm a rebel....soul rebel. I'm a capturer...soul adventurer
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 2:28pm PKNY:

No one's in the office, so it's time for high volume/super-out-of-key singing along with the chorus to this one!
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 2:29pm kirk from beer city usa:

on the other hand, I do not wish to erase Biz Markie from my musical memory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 2:30pm chris:

love, love, love Biz's cover!
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 2:31pm Jshatan:

Freddie Scott's got what I need!
  Wed. 10/7/15 2:33pm Yair yona:

Hi everyone
Duane, I still didn't recover from that awesome version of Spacer.
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 2:35pm Jshatan:

Massive 23 CD Isley Brothers box on sale at PopMarket for $119. That's about $5/disc - tempting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 2:40pm Mike East:

nice panning timbales in this. never noticed that before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 2:40pm Gaylord Fields:

When I met Biz Markie at my place of employment (a very well-known music magazine) in the mid-90s, he proceeded to make fun of my given name. My reply to him was "Are you really teasing me about my name — uh, Marcel?!" After humbling him, I allowed him to sign my copy of I Need a Haircut regardless.
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 2:41pm kumar:

ooh, this Washed Out OG is so smooth. Never heard the OG!
  Wed. 10/7/15 2:41pm brandon:

ah this is what miss kitten was doing with "the beach"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 2:45pm steve:

whaaaaa?!!?! so this is where Miss Kitten + The Hacker got the music for The Beach! you never cease to educate Duane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 2:46pm Mike East:

@Gaylord - my wife is pregnant with a boy and I suggested your name. Didn't fly with her. As a Michael and Michelle, we are all about the less common names for our kids, though. definitely won't be having a Dave, Bob, or Jake, etc.
Avatar Wed. 10/7/15 2:47pm kumar:

The Gaylords is (was?) a pretty notorious Chicago gang from the Roger's Park north side neighborhood
  Wed. 10/7/15 2:48pm brandon:

i think AZ or nas rapped to this
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/7/15 2:49pm steve:

i recent met a Gahlord, with an H.
  Wed. 10/7/15 2:54pm this guy:
