This one holds a special place for me.
Avatar 10:15pm
hyde:

thing about Glen Campbell is you hear these songs, and they're great. but then you see him pick guitar, and he can keep up with anyone. (cf. Roy Clark!). and w. the godhen they gave him a show, he was a natural host. the goddamned guy could do anything.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
Funky16Corners:

Yeah,a consummate entertainer
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:16pm

Well, he couldn't act. Admit it.

Gentle On My Mind got a bit of a shmaltz MOR rep for a while when we was young. I understand why, but still a pretty strange tainting, given its pedigree, its lyrics, its everything...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm

Funky16Corners:

You got that right. The best Fairport album ever recorded by someone else
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
Uncle Michael:

It's interesting, looking at Glen's catalog on Capitol before he struck gold. An album in '62, two in '63, one each in '64 and '65...*none* in '66....then three in '67, FIVE in '68!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Funky16Corners:

He was a busy man
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Funky16Corners:

It's always stunning when you see artists in the sixties turning over two or three albums a year
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
Uncle Michael:

Five albums in a calendar year is insane.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:43pm

i always wondered - i tried to get it cleared up by finding the original "slide machine" (which is unfortunately quite inferior)...but -what exactly IS a slide machine? i can deduce what it does, but i could not find a picture of one with a web search.

I wonder whose chances of crossover success are better statistically -- on-camera performers who make a record or recording artists who try performing on-camera.

Stormy....arright!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:29pm

That Dawson 45 is weird and cool, but an odd jumping off point for success. I love it but it must have been as confusing as hell for Hogan's Heroes fans

If Newkirk could grab a mike, where was "LeBeau: Songs for Lovers, Oui?"

I worked at a car dealership in the 70s and one of the salesmen claimed to have been the bass player for Classics IV. I never saw any substantiation...don't know if it was just car salesman odd talk or if he was a hire for some live shows or somethin'.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:38pm

I'd be willing to bet that Robert Clary made some records. He got his start doing cabaret/revues in NYC in the 50s
