Since I took a job in FL and our rent went up to $2500/mo., I picked Crown Heights in the Hasidic portion, as I thought it would be safe for a woman. Rent is more reasonable, but the commute is longer (the L was shutting down anyways), and there is less venues nearby, but Prospect Park and the Brooklyn and Childrens Museum are nearby (as is my favorite Jamaican restaurant, Islands, and Tom's Diner.)
