TBH, even before the modern era, migration around the world was the norm (which is why DNA testing like 23 and me is mostly BS) (strontium isotope testing of one's enamel is more accurate of one's origin).
  9:19pm
beggar, thief, loser:

modern era, u mean after 1956?
Avatar 9:21pm
northguineahills:

@beggar, thief, loser: per hisorians, it usually refers from the 16th c. CE forward as the modern era.
Avatar 9:22pm

err... historians.... (maybe in a few more decades I'll master the English language)....

that's what I've been saying!!
  9:29pm
beggar, thief, loser:

what about historians who lived in the 15th century, what did they think of as the modern era?
  9:29pm
JakeGould:

HEY JOE D!!!!

“…migration around the world was the norm…” Well, let’s be clear not all migrations are willful. Slavery and imprisonment spread people out as well. For example, lots of Polish surnames have a high density in… Afghanistan. That’s thanks to the Soviet Gulag system!!!

Anyway, I did 23andMe and am waiting for the final breakdown of results. Will take that for what it is worth.
Avatar 9:29pm
fleep:

It's turtles all the way down, btl
  9:31pm
beggar, thief, loser:

anyway, what u say about migration around the world being the norm is ridiculous. Hell, in England , before around 1800, you werent really allowed to just up and move to another part of England. You had to stay put.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm

sounds like you don't know about haplogroups, my G.

in the reagan era, i'm around eleven twelver...hmm
Avatar 9:37pm
northguineahills:

@beggar, thief, loser: : well, I suppose it's where ya at (what's modern)

groups of people and tribes moved around all the time. Just look at the history of India, China, Japan, and Rome..(for some examples).
  9:38pm
beggar, thief, loser:

Comon Mike, Reagan was terrific.
Avatar 9:39pm
northguineahills:

what killer mike said about reagan....
  9:40pm
beggar, thief, loser:

migration was never the norm, it was the exception. But the exception is all that was necessary. Only takes a couple of migrees to start up a new whole tribe/population in another place.
  9:42pm
beggar, thief, loser:

don't forget, every single white and asian person is related to that one group of 241 africans who first left africa in 56,000BC
  9:42pm
JakeGould:

FWIW, what is happening at the U.S. southern border is more akin to how the Gulag system worked: People seeking refuge/asylum in Eastern Europe, would come Russia and given the choice: Citizenship or ben tagged as an “enemy aliens” and then shipped off to the Gulags in wherever. Families were deliberately split this way.
  9:42pm
beggar, thief, loser:

here's the twibe
  9:43pm
JakeGould:

“don't forget, every single white and asian person is related to that one group of 241 africans who first left africa in 56,000BC” Then how come they don’t call me up to say “Hello!” anymore?
  9:43pm

I agree that this is the most patriotic set of music I've heard lately.

beggar, thief, loser: :don't forget that africa is more diverse as per haplotype research then the rest of the world combined...
  9:47pm
JakeGould:

FWIW, I am a bit disconcerted that Neil Diamond has not (at least to my knowledge) spoken out much about the current U.S. situation given how much his song “America” gets co-opted by lunkheads all of the time.
Avatar 9:49pm
northguineahills:

@jake: Springsteen's "born in the usa" got copted by the rnca in 84, and there are scores of other examples of unironic coopting of songs critical of the usa by derpers...

I was able to see the JC fireworks much better than the NYC ones. And before JC, something behind midtown, maybe Hoboken or Weehawken or something. I don't know why the NYC ones have to be so freaking far up north these days. Greenwood Cemetery blocked them from here.

I’m picturing a sad Alan Dershowitz sitting on a rock and looking at Martha’s Vineyard in the distance the way Gatsby looks at Zelda in “The Great Gatsby”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
Joe D.:

Poor Alan. Think of all the caviar he's not eating. So sad.
  11:41pm
Stevel:

Jake. It is a terribly poignant, pain that he feels. That's evident. Perhaps he is seeking to find or create his own dignity. Perhaps.
  11:41pm
JakeGould:

He’s probably walking down the side of the road and eating caviar straight out of the jar and occasionally sobbing to himself. Tossing the jar aside just before he gets to his bed and breakfast.
  11:44pm
Stevel:

It's his dignity. He cannot find it. Why would his friends deny him that.

Question: Did he actually have friends?
