It sounds like NJ drivers and snow, like they've never seen it before. They either go way too slow or way too fast.

Roxy Music in 1976 did Hard Rain in concert and snowish confetti precipitated heavily down onto the stage. Crowd seemed to love it of course. Seemed like a cheap, though messy, and clumsy effect. Drummer Paul Thompson wore a towel on his head as he played through the soft squall.

I wonder what it would be like to get sick of this song (Mr. Tambourine Man).
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
Funky16Corners:

It doesn't take much digging to get through to that rich, creamy, Bob Dylan-y center. He's everywhere in the 60s and 70s, and most of it holds up very well.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:26pm

This mix of Mr Tambourine Man sounds different. I know it's the Byrds version but it's hard to hear the actual tambourine, hence the name of the song.

Funny how many of Dylan's songs were bigger hits when covered by other artists of that time.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
Funky16Corners:

Many of the covering artists added layers of pop polish (as well as a bridge or two) to the songs which made them more appealing to record buyers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Franco Twinkie:

One night in 1971, when I was sixteen, I was watching some crap on TV, when my sister came home and said very blithely ".... And then Bob Dylan showed up". Recently I asked her about it, and she couldn't remember(!?!) She thinks maybe it was in the gym at Cal State Fullerton where her and her friend Kathy went to see Crabby Appleton and Little Feat. I know Bob covered Willin', so who knows. But can you imagine forgetting something like that?

He tended to hang around Texas (e.g., Austin) and Oklahoma, but occasionally headed out west for , e.g., the Kate Wolf Festival. Died way too young a couple years ago. His albums are wonderful, and he issued a series of bootleg-like outtakes and live shows, dubbed Trail, that are a great entry point. I miss him. Got to meet him at Winters in Northern California in a little venue, the Opera House (yeah, a little venue) a few years ago. No idea he was already terminally ill.

pp&m was my first exposure to "folk", but also probably my first exposure to real music. (either pp&m's fisrt and 3rd albums; or Harry Belafonte's "calypso")
they didn't dare put their names under the Dylan songs, so i knew the name, though it was a few years before i heard Dylan himself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
Franco Twinkie:

I love this iteration of The Byrds. Like Love, they got super heavy in order to survive. And they took a lot of shit for it.

that's funny Larry - the album that fared the worst with both the critics (most of whom can go fuck themselves anyway) and the public as well. i don't like it much myself, though i don't listen to the byrds much in general.
...i like the Crosby byrds best, though. the 3 albums up to his and Clarke's departure.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:36pm
Funky16Corners:

I love all the Byrds stuff, but Dr Byrds has some amazing songs and playing on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
coelacanth∅:

i never cared for the byrds, but i decided last year sometime to listen to their entire studio output (in chronological order) and try to listen with openness. -and make a playlist. if i'm not mistaken there are maybe a handful of songs from each of the firat 2 albums; almost all of the 3rd - 5th albums; then only 3 or 4 from each album after that.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
Funky16Corners:

There's a lot of push and pull on all of those albums between McGuinn, Crosby, Chris Hillman, Gram Parsons, Clarence White and on and on ad infinitum
  11:41pm
Franco Twinkie:

It's all good, but I like the (De)evolution - transformation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm

...i generally dislike their Dylan covers. "you ain't goin' nowhere" by the byrds is a forever and always favorite though. maybe the only song i saved from that album!
