I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

@rbrt: Now that I have the water bottle designed by Mayuko, I no longer have that problem

Greetings, Dropof, Joe B & coelacanth∅! Glad to have you all here with in me in my landfill.

I've always wanted to visit a recycling facility like this and see all the plastic in person.

This has been a great start to the show, and this Stuart Chalmers / Sindre Bjerga track was especially great

Ken From Hyde Park:

Think big, Mayuko. You can be the next Antonio Gaudi and design a Park Güell for listenerds to live in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
fred:

@Ken: not sure that would work as a premium though, the shipping costs for parks are bound to be high
Avatar 12:26pm
Mayuko:

@Ken Very good point! The only question is if the station would fund me to do big.
Avatar 12:26pm

@Mayuko yes, up in San Francisco. I know someone who did and it it was a great experience for her. But I don't think they provide housing...

@coelacanth∅ OK!!! I'll wait for you there and hand you a kite made of a deli plastic bag when you arrive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
coelacanth∅:

it was a kleen kanteen got left in my car, ugly orange so i painted it with leftover spray paint -flat "olive" and shiny "basil" -so on a 3-toned base i used enamels, mostly 1-shot sign paint that i bought for my car a few years earlier.
i wish i had pictures.
Avatar 12:34pm

@Joe B oh boo! I would want to LIVE in the landfill.
Avatar 12:34pm

I mean not for good, but for like a week or however long the residency is.
  12:35pm
rbrt:

they should let you fly kites in the landfill, a kite park
  12:35pm
rbrt:

like they can drop you off in the landfill and you can build shelter with stuff in the landfill
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
coelacanth∅:

haha Mayuko remember -i've never flown a kite so you've got an aerodynamics student you never wanted!

@rbrt Freshkills park in Staten Island, the former landfill, does let you fly a kite, though not like in the middle of the piles of trash.
  12:39pm

is this water bottle bad luck??! the "Psychic" part is suspect...
  12:39pm

@Mayuko oh freshkills! that's right, totally forgot about that

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm
coelacanth∅:

i thought i lost my Mayuko water bottle in a drunken state once then a week later it was presented to me by my friend (the bartender) who gave me a ride home that night. (it fell out of my backpack into her car)
-i was very sad for a week though! (honestly)

Matmos!
  12:43pm
rbrt:

matmos are the kings of plastic junk music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm
coelacanth∅:

Mayuko, my experience with the car showed me that the hotter it is when i did the painting the better it will hold up; though it dried so fast there was little forgiveness.
...but i don't imagine you'd be painting a water bottle in 105ºf tuscan heat anyway
Avatar 12:46pm
Mayuko:

Yeah why does my water bottle keep disappearing???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm

maybe the space creature you endowed them with resembles entities amongst us that we don't see, who therefore feel entitled to take them
Avatar 12:50pm

Speaking of swag, did everyone already else get their premiums for 2019? I'm a little worried because I never got it and packages typically get stolen from my place. Who should I contact to see if it went out? Joe McG I presume?
Avatar 12:51pm
Mayuko:

@rbrt ... and possibly the only resident of the whole kingdom. haha! actually I'm sure there have been many people who made music from plastic materials. maybe just not to that level of consistency of Matmos...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
coelacanth∅:

Joseph i doubt anyone's gotten swag yet.
last year mine came around july

Hey Mayuko! Funny you mentioned the coffee you bring to work and being poor. Growing up poor taught me the value of not being wasteful. I also (as a kid) went through the building’s garbage with other poor kids to find toys.

And as an adult, the two metal refillable water bottles I own were rescued from the trash. Ditto with a very nice reusable metal coffee mug.

Pro tip for metal bottles and mugs with chopped paint: Just boil them in a mixture of vinegar and salt for a little while. Then use steel wool to basically rub the paint off. One of the bottles I found was a beat up Swell bottle with an ugly, gummy paint finish. After some work it’s now nice and shiny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm

There's a good selection of water bottles and drink mugs on top of the fridge at work, that tennis players left behind

My favorite toy as a young tot was a garbage truck. It had movable parts that allowed the opening and filling of the backloading crusher space. So cool. I wanted to be a garbage man as the result up until the age 7 or so.
