I keep the levels low-ish since the studio computer output is lower than the CDs, turntables, and my laptop. I would boost the levels on my recording of the show and then it would be uploaded; need to remember to raise them now since I don't get to edit my show before it's uploaded to the archive.

re: levels - if you're coming from the Sheena stream - it's easily 1/4 louder than the others. Not a brag - just a fact.
I often have to turn my office stereo down before switching to it.

We have cantaloupes and honeydews by the boatload out here in CA. Never even heard of a muskmelon ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm

was recently at a social gathering that had muskmelon. Everyone was all agog over it. For some reason, I have never liked any kind of melon, musk, water, or otherwise.

This also is beautiful. I've never heard this before. I have phantom Bowie syndrome - I sometimes think he's still around and then I remember.
Avatar 2:03pm

Bowie really performed at a Bridge School concert?? I keep my eye on those events every year and don't recall seeing his name.
  Swag For Life Member 2:03pm

Just looked up the Bridge School Concerts. Good for Neil Young for helping start them. Do not see this track on the Wiki list. Sure sounds good.

There's a video on YouTube, he had a metal thing on his shoe to make that tapping sound.

Who do you think you are, not playing the German version of "Heroes"?
Avatar 2:07pm

Young's wife at the time was/is a teacher there and helped found the school (their son was a student there).

Yes, I wonder if Neil and Peggy are still hosting the concerts since they got divorced?

Summer '83, Roberto working in a college bookstore and Sweet Dreams being one of the seemingly only five songs that were played on the PA. Safety Dance was another one of the five.

Well we're talking about '83 here, but sure why not. In '82 it was mostly the daughter of my parents' friend.
Avatar 2:18pm

I corrected my comment to 1983, heh, sorry.

Crap, now I've said too much.

Apparently the concerts ended in 2016, and Pegi died in 2014.

I once did a show on an online station whose ad hoc programming director issued an edict that Sweet Dreams should never be played. I have no idea why. He even posted a long email rant about it after someone played a cover version or remix.
Avatar 2:20pm
Mary Wing:

Bah, well, I'd be kicked off that station, pronto.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm

It was sort of an omen of things to come, as he lost programmer after programmer due to his often abusive online meltdowns, which was why I quit.

Hmm it's become evident to me that the melody for Sweet Dreams was largely lifted from the guitar intro to Crazy Train.

Hearing German makes me sad, too.

Interesting perspective, Roberto, I guess we need to go to the tape!

Any German, Manana? Or just the German version of Heroes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm

lots of chills from that one

("Rhythmic, harmonic, and/or melodic violations of a person’s explicit or implicit expectations are associated with musical frisson as a prerequisite.")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Rich in Washington:

Manana: now I can't unhear it!
  Swag For Life Member 2:44pm

Not just Heroes. And it's a nice sort of sad anyway. Wim Wenders-ish kinda thing.
  Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
Manana:

Enjoyed the show today. Outside coffee break time now. While the sun is still out.
Avatar 2:46pm
Mary Wing:

Wim's my kind of German, yep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm
Rich in Washington:

oh man, Manana. I found an instrumental for Sweet Dreams and an acapella for Crazy Train in about 1 minute flat. You're right!
Avatar 2:49pm
Mary Wing:

Oh man, I wish I had the skills to mash those two together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm
coelacanth∅:

the riff is similar but only the first 3 chords match up
...i'll have to go listen again before i stubbornly stand by this
  Swag For Life Member 2:51pm

All prior comments aside, other than English, German is my favorite language for rock and roll. Nice chewy consonants.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm

I sure don't. Some people are really good at it. Just not me. I do get hung up on the similarities/seeming mashability of some songs, though.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm

i just listened to the beginning of the original of each song (the only versions that matter in the comparison) and they are barely the same.
that's my opinion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm

different chords, different key, somewhat different structure and totally different instrumentation.

Sweet, indeed. Thanks, Mary! I'm going South Side and Seoul today (not a typo!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm
coelacanth∅:

...some of the guitar-based covers borrow heavily from crazy train, that's all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm
coelacanth∅:

(not trying to be antagonistic, Roberto! -just how i hear it!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm
steveo:

the internet seems to think that the marilyn manson version, specifically, borrowed the ozzy riff; that seems like about when Roberto noticed the similarities also; i'll have to listen to that again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm
Rich in Washington:

Not saying they're the same, a purloined melody, etc, just saying they mash.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm
