  3:29am David in London:

Yo Mariano. Morning mate. Is it your special day..?!!
Avatar 3:29am HyperDose:

Hey this is pretty ROCKIN'!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29am mariano:

It is indeed, David. 52, don't feel a day over 51.
  3:31am David in London:

You may sir. But be careful not to tread on my outsized crinoline skirts.
  3:31am David in London:

Morning HyperDose.
Avatar 3:31am slugluv1313:

Avatar 3:33am HyperDose:

Happy Birthday mariano!
Greetings Emily L, morning David and fellow ACCU chatters!
  3:36am schlimazel:

asa nisi masa? mariano! you share a birthday (by the common reckoning) with cary grant and joe bonanno! but i bet you already knew that... 52 is gematria of bo, which is this weeks parsha! may your going (coming?) be pleasant and meaningful :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37am mariano:

Thank you, David, slugluv, HyperDose! Tell you what, wouldn't mind a hyperdose right about now, perfect for crinoline treading :)

schlimazel: Thanks for the gematria! Yep, Cary Grant, Joe Bananas, A. A. Milne, Kevin Costner, and Jim O'Rourke (exact same age).
  3:39am Ajay:

Great show. Blasts from the past. Ol mutha Riley here moaning about MES
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40am Stanley:

Hi Emily, smooth me into this working week.
Many happy returns, mariano.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43am Emily L:

MES moaning a favored genre here. Hey all - thnx for tuning in
  3:44am David in London:

Morning Stanley.
Avatar 3:49am HyperDose:

Totally had to google that. You work with fabric and/or clothing mariano?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50am Stanley:

Morning David. I gird my loins as I face a week of work ahead of me.
Avatar 3:51am NikiA:

@Hyperdose I think it was a reference to an earlier commenter who said not to step on his crinoline skirts ;)
Avatar 3:53am HyperDose:

@NikiA! I'm rolling up so you can't yell at me :p and oh I missed that
Avatar 3:54am NikiA:

LOLOLOL Hi Hyper :) <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54am mariano:

Thank you, Stanley!

HyperDose: No, anytime in my life I've tried to sew anything it's wound up looking like Frankenstein stitches. I should learn, though. I've always wanted to rig up my jackets and hoodies with mugger-proof secret pockets.
Avatar 3:55am NikiA:

You ever been mugged, @Mariano? (Sorry if you have)
  3:57am David in London:

It’s your birthday Mariano, time to put a windowpane in your eye. Go wild.
  3:58am rich from Red Hook:

I think I'm tripping. Thank you Emily
Avatar 3:58am HyperDose:

My mother taught me to sew when I was little when one of my beanie babies ripped (tiny stuffed animals from the 90's that we thought would make us rich one day if we collected them). Super grateful for that because it really is a useful life skill!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58am mariano:

NikiA: No, fortunately. Kind of a miracle considering some of the places I've lived. My theory is that I'm schlubby enough to where I could conceivably be an undercover cop. I was called po-po by some kids in Bed-Stuy once as I walked past the stoop where they were hanging out.
Avatar 3:59am NikiA:

Yeah seriously @Rich, this is trippy and I love it. It helps that I am also smoking some good good
Avatar 3:59am HyperDose:

STOOP KID LEFT HIS STOOP! (sorry, another 90's reference)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02am mariano:

Alright, NikiA, you've forced my hand. You're under arrest. You can walk if you hand over the weed though.
  4:02am NikiA:

Emily, that Coil was really good, where did you find it??
Avatar 4:02am NikiA:

Also this Westerman...slaps,,,,what a show tonight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03am mariano:

One of my favorite Simon & Garfunkel songs.
Avatar 4:03am HyperDose:

@NikiA www.discogs.com...
Avatar 4:03am NikiA:

Thank you Mariano, didn't recognize the song // Hyper, thanks!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05am Emily L:

coolest listeners on the planet, bar none
Avatar 4:06am NikiA:

OMG Mariano...take it, take it, it's to be passed anyway :)
  4:06am David in London:

NikiA, if you don’t know it, Coil’s Time Machines album is the one to trip to. Far, far out, further than the night.
Avatar 4:07am NikiA:

Ooooooh thank you David thank you
Avatar 4:07am HyperDose:

Good lord, your dog is better dressed than I am!

Emily I love how your sets can be upbeat, but it feels like there's a certain line you don't want to cross to keep everything in the "chill zone". I dig it.
Avatar 4:09am NikiA:

Hyper, are you talking about my doggie in my icon? Because yes he is an impeccable dresser
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10am Emily L:

Willing us all to remain in the chill zone for the remainder of '21
Avatar 4:12am HyperDose:

Yes, he is the only dog I see here. Now if we're talking about dawgs, then that's another story. Lotta cool dawgs in this chat 2nite. d^_^b

Emily, don't wanna jinx anything. But I wholly concur.
Avatar 4:13am NikiA:

:) thank you for complimenting my doggie, you have my heart
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14am Bend Sinister:

Thanks, one of my alltime faves. "What's There Left' is also epic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15am mariano:

Speaking of police matters, anyone know that Gainsbourg song "You're Under Arrest," with the chorus (sung by an American guy) that goes "You're under arrest, 'cause you're the best!"? It's 80s, past-his-prime Gainsbourg, but I always loved that part.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18am mariano:

I love the heraldic handle, Bend Sinister.
  4:19am David in London:

Yeah, Nabokov and The Fall, good moniker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21am Emily L:

Gainsbourg full of surprises. Only discovered his reggae album this year. Need to get the Sylvie Simmons bio on him
Avatar 4:21am HyperDose:

Not familiar with Serge Gainsbourg. Makes sense I missed him since his album came out the year I was born, but a quick google shows it was recorded in both NJ and Paris. Intriguing, thanks for the rec!
Avatar 4:24am HyperDose:

AND he covered the Hungarian suicide song? Ok this is going to the top of the must listen pile.
Avatar 4:24am slugluv1313:

yes trippy indeed . . . ya, i thought i kinda recognized that Simon and Garfunkel song! . . . was diving into the Xmal Deutschland rabbit hole . . . which led to Propaganda ("Goth" magazine that featured Xmal Deutschland a number of times -- gorgeous photos, & pretty sure i still have my issues) . . . that led to Genitorturers, Zeena LaVey . . .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26am mariano:

Wow, David. I've read a goodly selection of Nabokov, didn't know he wrote one called Bend Sinister. TIL from DIL.
Avatar 4:27am slugluv1313:

Tuxedomoon <3 <3 <3
(STILL trying to figure out where i saw them in NYC, early 1980s . . . there IS a book about Tuxedomoon, but last i checked, it was long out of print)
Avatar 4:31am slugluv1313:

@HyperDose -- YES! Gainsbourg does Gloomy :)
(my Mom always said, "You think it is depressing in English? You should hear it in HUNGARIAN!""
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32am mariano:

slugluv: Is that "Gloomy Sunday," banned in Hungary in the 30s because it supposedly drove some people to suicide?
Avatar 4:36am slugluv1313:

@mariano -- yup! ahhhh my *lovely* heritage :)
but yes, it was banned because it really was driving people to suicide -- i think in Italy, other European countries too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43am mariano:

slugluv: One of the signature desserts in the New Orleans recipe book, the doberge cake (pronounced "do-BAZH") is Hungarian in origin. And it makes one want to live. It's obscenely sweet. The best one is from Gambino's bakery (not affiliated with the NY crime family far as I know): gambinos.com...
Avatar 4:50am HyperDose:

I don't know. You could fit half a key of Bolivian marching powder in one of those cakes, easy. 👀
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54am mariano:

HyperDose: Well, they did it with pizza parlors in the 80s. Come to think of it, considering all the powdered sugar on beignets, they'd be the perfect vehicle. Everyone always leaves Café du Monde looking like they were auditioning for the role of Tony Montana.
Avatar 4:57am slugluv1313:

@mariano -- oh yes! what my Mom and Grandma used to call Seven Layer Cake! there were bakeries near where my Grandma lived (Clifton/Passaic NJ) that made the cakes from scratch, was always a treat when we had that -- years later, one of my best friends in high school was also Hungarian, describing the cake to her, she was like, "Oh, Dobos Torte!" (was always so "envious" that she had learned Hungarian when she was a child) -- pronounced "DO-boss-TOR-tay" (one of the few things i remember about Hungarian is that usually the accent falls on the first syllable)
Avatar 4:57am HyperDose:

While I can't say I've been to Café du Monde, I have been treated to Serendipity 3 in NYC. Absolutely outstanding.
Avatar 5:01am slugluv1313:

hah! considering that this Hungarian pear liquor that my Grandma had back in the 70s was the first time i ever saw a whole pear in a bottle of booze . . . i have no doubt that Hungarians have stashed other *substances* similarly :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03am David (in London):

A bottle of Zwack Barack should see us right. A Hungarian once told me, "Only soldiers and madmen drink that."
Avatar 5:03am slugluv1313:

awwww love Ronnie's version of Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory (thinking of Johnny and Sylvain <3 <3 <3)
Avatar 5:03am HyperDose:

So THAT'S why Harry & David pears are so juicy. They're soaked in Hungarian hooch!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04am mariano:

slugluv: Oh, that's really interesting. I guess doberge would be a Creolization of dobos, maybe? Speaking of sweet Hungarian things, I love tokay. I hardly drink at all anymore, but I love a good dessert wine. That pear brandy is something else too. A Hungarian guy I met years ago gave me a slug and laughed at the obvious wallop it gave me.

HyperDose: Serendipity's amazing. It's been years since I've been there, but I think I'm still feeling the vestiges of the sugar high.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05am Krys O.:

Perfect song!
Avatar 5:07am slugluv1313:

Hungarian Herb Liquor?!?!? HOW did i not know about this? along with Malört, MUST TRY!!!
Avatar 5:10am HyperDose:

Krys! Getting a head start on that commute?
Avatar 5:10am slugluv1313:

@mariano -- hah! NOW i gotta find a bottle of that pear liquor! i hardly drink anymore myself, but sure would like to have something decent around
Avatar 5:14am HyperDose:

@mariano My grandparents took me there when I was young(er). Afterwards, my grandpa took me to get my first pocket knife. I foolishly cut myself later that day and learned to respect the blade. It's a cherished memory.
Avatar 5:17am slugluv1313:

do not think i have ever had Tokay?? unless it was back in the Grandma-sneaking-us-kids-booze days :)
i used to REALLY like Egri Bikavér ("Bull's Blood") though -- but have kinda avoided red wines over the years, i think they give me headaches -- ??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17am mariano:

Wow, HyperDose, what a memory indeed.

The word serendipity has a really interesting origin; it's the old Arabic name for Sri Lanka: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21am mariano:

*...it comes from the old Arabic name of SL, that is.

slugluv: Maybe it's the sulfites? At least that's what I've heard when it comes to reds. Tokay is amber in color though, so you should be good. Oh, and I guess the preferred spelling these days is Tokaji, guess I'm behind the times as usual: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 5:24am HyperDose:

I guess the ice cream business as a whole was kind of a serendipitous venture. I for one will never turn down a chocolate dipped waffle cone with two scoops of strawberry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24am Stanley:

Mmm, where is my Hungarian -English phrasebook?
Avatar 5:29am slugluv1313:

oh damn this Leonard Cohen!
remembering Nick Cave covering this at Celebrate Brooklyn years ago, tribute to Mr. Cohen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30am Emily L:

RIP (?) Phil - tho recorded this last night before I heard he passed. During the recording of this album, he (allegedly) put a gun in Leonard's face, telling him "I love you, Leonard," who replied, "I hope you do, Phil"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31am mariano:

Stanley: My hovercraft is full of eels ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32am Emily L:

How cool, slugluv! I saw a Nick Cave doc a ways back - thought he was referring to a Cohen album called "Love and Height" due to the Aussie accent
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40am Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning, Emily and sleepers. Happy birthday, mariano! 🎂

Avatar 5:44am Malcolm:

hippy bathday mariano ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45am David (in London):

Morning Malcolm.
Avatar 5:45am Malcolm:

hey david! how are you? tuning in late today, i couldn't get out of bed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46am mariano:

Thank you, Malcolm! Matter of fact, had my birthday shower earlier. Once a year, whether I need it or not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48am David (in London):

I'm good thanks Malcolm. Have instigated a new weekend routine which involves walking Saturday and Sunday, and minimal screen-time. It's making a real difference during the dismal times of Lockdown Three Point Oh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50am Stanley:

Mrs Stanley's Zumba class has started and so has the strange music that accompanies it. I had to look it up and it's a sort of autotune, Latino dance stuff; Ricky Martin, Shakira sort of thing, I believe. Terrible stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51am Paulo AD:

Mariano this birthday love is following you :)
Avatar 5:52am Malcolm:

@david that sounds like an excellent idea, and one that i might need to implement. The dreariness of life on plague island is getting to me a bit. @mariano haha i am likewise religious about my annual hygeine/beauty routine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53am David (in London):

Stanley, you're living the vida loca.
Avatar 5:53am slugluv1313:

@Stanley -- tried doing the Zumba thing, there are free classes in the parks for all sorts of stuff during the Summer (well, during "normal" times!) -- could NOT get into the Zumba at all, but noticed how people were really into the outfits
Avatar 5:55am slugluv1313:

Stanley, your hips don't lie
Avatar 5:55am HyperDose:

Awesome show Emily, really kept a cool pace. Rest up and have a great week!
  5:55am Gerry from Miami:

New to your show, Emily. I'm up a bit earlier than usual to listen to the Pidge at 6. Been listening to you since about 4:45. Nice vibe in your song selections. And you have an interesting group of listeners/commentators as well. I may have to shift my sleeping achedule to tune into this show on a regular basis. Carry on, Ms. DJ. Happy to have found you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55am mariano:

Paulo: I know, I picked a good night to stay up till dawn, it's been lovely!

Thank you Emily L and Crew, take care and/or see everyone chez Pidge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56am David (in London):

Te Emily . Thanks for a great show today.
Have a good week groovers. More trifle birthday boy?
Avatar 5:56am Malcolm:
