I have a wonderful memory of listening to Witt’s Der Goldener Reiter sitting on the quayside in Munster one night night with friends, smoking some ‘jazz cigarettes’ and listening to the music echo out across the water. My favourite of his for that reason I think.

O bless you Emily for playing AR Kane. The great lost British band of the Eighties. I saw them supporting Swans and, I have to say, they outplayed them totally (and I was a massive Swans fan, then and now). No one could work out whether they were still tuning up. They were astonishing. And My Bloody Valentine were just a jangly pop band until they saw AR Kane play. Chapeau.

and yes, Gamelan is (mostly) from Indonesia -- just that i thought that Itoh Masyitoh's name was Japanese?
Gamelan Sekar Jaya is a PHENOMENAL Balinese Gamelan ensemble, based in San Fransisco -- i totally lucked out when i was able to see them live at Queens College, NYC, some years ago:

(i think my first introduction to Balinese/Indonesian dance, music, arts, etc. was through some of my Mom's books, and maybe some PBS specials when i was a little kid in the 60s/early 70s -- i SO wanted to move to Bali so i could be one of those incredible Balinese dancers! unfortunately my poor suburban NJ parents had NO idea what to do with me, and were not going to make that happen, hah!)

there was also a PBS series called Spice Island Saga (1980s?) -- i fell in love with the Komodo Dragons too :)
