One theory (hypothesis?) is the origin of Music with Humans is in collective Work synchronization. Another about the origins of the term 'Rock' as applied to Music in the USA is same relating to loading Mississippi River boats...

there's definitely those call and response songs that are there to keep everyone in synch hoiseting sails and stuff

Maybe a crucial thing in our evolution - but then I think Music is even far more primordial. I mean - birds *dance* fergawdsake. Probly Music long before speech... & the Mystic in me says Music is just of the nature of vibrations in the Universe in the 1st place...

Stan Rogers: What a talent! Wrote convincing songs from point of view of sailor, rancher, oil field worker, farm wife, man in old folk’s home…
Saw him twice at the Ark in Ann Arbor, MI. I sat stage right observing the sweat drip off the tip of his nose and Garnet pounding down Stroh’s. He sang until he started to get hoarse, then announce he’d finish with two more songs.
33 years old. Shit.
Avatar 3:00pm
Mitten John:

Barrett’s Privateers: An excellent documentary on Stan called “One Warm Line” was shown on CBC a long time ago. Here is a link to the portion of it in which Stan tells how he came to write the song, then he and the boys give a rollicking rendition of it sitting around a table pounding their feet. youtu.be...
Also, a parody of the song based on a tasting of Garnet Rogers’ home brew: youtu.be...
