Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Julie:

Barry, it is! Hi Barry & Rick!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:05pm spodiodi:

Julie, i tuned in seconds too late last night to catch your playing the some of The Master's work :) i think i was the one who started the convo (where ngh mentioned his old roomate's dis) -- i was present but unable to comment at the time (but heard your mic break following the set)... anyway, thanks and glad to be here now
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:05pm listener james from westwood:

Afternoon, Julie and everyone!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Julie:

hiya james!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Phillippe Bastille:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Julie:

hi there Phillippe. Spodi, "master" you will have to be more specific
Avatar 3:07pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hello!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Julie:

hi Sylvia!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:08pm spodiodi:

Julie, there is only one Danny Elfman ;)
Avatar 3:08pm βrian:

It's a snow day here.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Julie:

@spodi...ohhh...yes right... hi Brian! Snowing here too, or it was I think it might have turned to rainish
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Handy Haversack:

Sleet Season. Sigh.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:12pm spodiodi:

the rain and wind in my neck of the woods is getting a little old
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:12pm spodiodi:

at least no sleet
Avatar 3:12pm Barry Stock:

The palm tree tops out my fifth-floor balcony are remarkable free of snow, but the street below is littered with idiots. I don't have to look. I know.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Phillippe Bastille:

It was weird here (Annapolis). We rarely get much if any snow even when surrounding areas do, but last night we got about an inch when they weren't even calling for it. Just some flurries today
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Julie:

oh the streets are always littered with idiots, no?
Avatar 3:14pm Barry Stock:

Oh man, that's some sweet guitar.
Avatar 3:14pm Barry Stock:

Avatar 3:15pm Barry Stock:

The ice cream truck is outside. It plays "La Cucaracha." People still buy ice cream, despite the obvious warning.

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Handy Haversack:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Julie:

ice cream is hard to resist.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Phillippe Bastille:

we all scream for it
Avatar 3:18pm βrian:

Howdy, spodiodi.

We have at least 8 new inches now. Little Human is eager to go sledding.
Avatar 3:19pm βrian:

Playing "La Cucaracha" is the tip-off that one can trade weed for ice cream.
Avatar 3:20pm Barry Stock:

"You want extra wings or antennae with that?"
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:20pm spodiodi:

especially if it's Thai Stick
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Miles of Middle Texas:

Avatar 3:25pm Barry Stock:

Yes, this Broadcast is fabbo.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Julie:

I'm not sure you can go wrong with them
Avatar 3:28pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

I am still hoping for the posthumous song-oriented album from Broadcast, I think one was in the works.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Miles of Middle Texas:

It was in in the 30's this morning. But now it's t-shirt weather. 70f
Avatar 3:33pm ThatRecordGotMeHigh:

It's Welsh, for "All Welsh Are Wankers."

("The New Man.")
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Handy Haversack:

Miles, sounds like you're in real danger of sleet deficit!
  3:35pm Mark R:

Tommy Roe!
  3:35pm Mark R:

Don't worry I had to look it up too!
  3:35pm Mark R:

I used to love that song when I was about 8
Avatar 3:36pm ThatRecordGotMeHigh:

The Welsh means "The New Man"
  3:36pm Mark R:

So Tom Jones is a wanker then? Methinks not.
  3:37pm βrian:

Would it help to take up smoking?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Handy Haversack:

It would help *me*!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:38pm luka:

ugh, the mask fidgeting. i can't deal. and i wear glasses, i know it sucks. but just suck it up.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:38pm spodiodi:

sounds wise, Julie
Avatar 3:38pm ThatRecordGotMeHigh:

We're going to double masks when in any store here.
Avatar 3:39pm ThatRecordGotMeHigh:

Tom Jones is not a wanker, true.
  3:39pm βrian:

I mentioned elsewhere that the WI Republicants are trying to repeal the state mask mandate. As if we don't have enough trouble already.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Julie:

Yep I'm gonna start doing that if I really have to be around people. I wear glasses too so yeah it drives me nuts. But I do it.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Julie:

I've got things up higher today so please tell me if they distort more than they should (I mean the shoegaze is supposed to be that way)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Rick from SC:

I hear double masks is the new norm being pushed.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Julie:

yep. people want pretty masks, so put on the safe one and put the cloth over it. also, hiya Rick!
Avatar 3:42pm ThatRecordGotMeHigh:

I get so much extra exercise crossing the street multiple times to walk one block. This state, my home state, is just a cesspool of idiocy. I used to love it here.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Julie:

Where you at?
Avatar 3:43pm ThatRecordGotMeHigh:

Hollywood, FL 33020
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Julie:

ahhh right sorry you did say... I have friends here that keep going down there, where there's no rules, and then fly back to NYC!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Julie:

Not Hollywood, but Miami, etc
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Julie:

best use of kazoo ever!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:47pm spodiodi:

kazoos ftw
Avatar 3:47pm ThatRecordGotMeHigh:

No rules here either, so, yeah.
  3:47pm Mark R:

I heard they might mandate N95 masks. We should have federal standards, I'm sick of the stupid states fucking us up.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Julie:

you can't get those but I've got KN95
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:48pm spodiodi:

hear, hear, Mark R
  3:49pm Mark R:

Let's keep everyone safe, go to jail if you refuse, then get everyone vaccinated, then we can all go back to work and school. It's not that hard, you guys. Jesus Christ, I'm sick of the bullshit. Haven't the stupid people had their day in the sun already? You had your chance, you fucked everything up, now shut the fuck up and do what the fuck we tell you, goddammit.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:49pm spodiodi:

Avatar 3:49pm ThatRecordGotMeHigh:

"I'm sick of the stupid states fucking us up."

100%. We're bailing in August, moving to NorCal, where my daughter is in grad school for the next six years. Ivanka's going to be a senator, she'll primary Rubio, DeSantis will win re-election, Scott too. It's getting dumber here.
  3:49pm Mark R:

Sorry, I'm a little bitter.
Avatar 3:50pm ThatRecordGotMeHigh:

"Sorry, I'm a little bitter."

You are a realist.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:51pm spodiodi:

i want a spaceship
  3:51pm Mark R:

On a semi-related note, are the Proud Boys not aware that that's the gayest sounding name ever? Like if I wanted to start an all-gay singing group like the Village People, Proud Boys would be a definite contender for band name.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Julie:

it is, I don't know WHO came up with that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Scott67:

G'day Julie & Nighties! ✌❤🌏😎

At least I sure hope you can because I'm sitting in it.

Avatar 3:58pm ThatRecordGotMeHigh:

Loving this sludge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm northguineahills:

The Lilys! A college friend of mine played drums w/ them when moved to Philly (two albums after this one).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm northguineahills:

(and yes, i have this album).
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Julie:

oh cool, NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Scott67:

G'day spodi! ✌
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Miles of Middle Texas:

Speaking of masks and how people use them to show their political positions. I drove past many trump signs this morning out in the sticks. And, they've scribbled out "pence" on a lot of them. Sad.... And funny
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Julie:

oh good grief
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:02pm spodiodi:

feel that healing
Avatar 4:07pm ThatRecordGotMeHigh:

That Susan Jacks track made me think of Quaaludes.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Rick from SC:

714
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:09pm spodiodi:

i thought shoegaze because of the audience's behavior
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Julie:

714?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:15pm spodiodi:

wikipedia attributes it to the players though -- so thatnks for helping me learn as much, Julie!
(the sound i know it to be and bands that share it haven't changed for me though... still happy for the better understanding)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Handy we have a pair of vintage peach basket and vine rockers, and one started to come apart and my step-father-in-law decided to fix it with fluorescent orange twine. He was a bit hacked off when I asked him to stop so we could make a more harmonious fix.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Rick from SC:

Sorry, responding to "That Record" regarding Quaaludes
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:16pm spodiodi:

710 for me
  4:16pm Dean:

OED on shoegazing:
A style of popular music originating in Britain at the start of the 1990s, featuring a sound in which the distinctions between separate instruments and vocals are blurred, esp. through the use of effects, and characterized by a deliberately reticent or introverted style of performance. Frequently attributive. Cf. dream pop n. at dream n.2 and adj. Compounds 5.
So named because of the supposed tendency of such performers to look down (esp. in order to operate guitar effects pedals) rather than at the audience.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Julie:

thanks Dean, and hiya!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:17pm spodiodi:

that's about what wikipedia says too, Dean
Avatar 4:17pm βrian:

And shoe glaze is entirely different.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Rick from SC:

www.bing.com...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Handy Haversack:

I managed to get all the twine internal, Phillippe! The perfect crime?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:18pm spodiodi:

new shimmer is a shoe glaze
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Handy Haversack:

The Know! This album is awesome.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Julie:

I need more of this band!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm northguineahills:

The vocalist from the know sounds a bit like Julee Cruze.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Julie:

it's not even an album it's like an EP, 4 songs I think?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Handy Haversack:

Yeah, it's not long. Five songs.
  4:22pm Dean:

Some of the illustrations in OED are fun, too:

1991 New Musical Express 8 June 26 Call it ‘shoe gazing’, call it ‘murmuring’, even call it ‘post-rave comedown’.
1991 Daily Tel. 11 Nov. 2/7 Competent though they are, their long tousled hair, distorted guitar sound and ‘shoe gazing’ stance—they stare at their feet as they play—does little to set them apart from those in Britain.
Avatar 4:23pm ThatRecordGotMeHigh:

I definitely got Julee Cruze vibes. I had to look to make sure it wasn't. I had Twin Peaks flashbacks.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Good afternoon, Julie and Tuesday Troop.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Phillippe Bastille:

Love this The Know!

That will do it, Handy! The SFIL's job was quite public, plus we had a cat at the time that liked to play with string, so it was shaping up to be either a trip to the ER for a person trying to sit in the chair or a trip to the vet for a rocked-on cat paw.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Phillippe Bastille:

hey kfhp
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Phillippe Bastille:

Oh man, I clicky-starred this after the first 10 bars!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Mike Sin:

All I've ever heard from Billy Black Swan is "Echoes and Rainbows" -- I don't think any of his freaky '70s material has been reissued.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Scott67:

Wow! What a version! ☺
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Handy Haversack:

Excellent cover. Dang.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Handy Haversack:

Kate's also playing keys and singing in the other room, which makes the whole thing kind of trippy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Scott67:

Hey Handy! & hell yeah!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Julie:

heya Mike! I played one of your songs!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Julie:

@Mike that's a shame, that song sure was good
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Handy Haversack:

Yo, Scott! Good morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Mike Sin:

I heard that -- thanks! It's basically Mike Fornatale, Stu Rutherford, and me on that track.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Julie:

hiya Mx Granny!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Julie:

is the snow over? looks like nothing outside right now
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hmmm, based on the gunfire I'm hearing out on the water, I'm guessing goose season is still on around here...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Scott67:

G'day Granny! Sorry I haven't written back yet. Had some stuff going on here. Don't mean to keep you hanging. ☺
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey granny!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Julie:

NOOOOOOOO poor geese

There used to be such a thing as a 2-gauge shotgun. It was mounted on a boat and used for hunting waterfowl.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Handy Haversack:

I always also associate the name of the show, esp. in the afternoon time slot, with the Douglas Adams-coined long, dark teatime of the soul.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Scott67:

Brian, the crazy Punt Gun.
Avatar 4:48pm ThatRecordGotMeHigh:

I am enjoying the show. Lots of killer, no filler.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

@Scott67: i completely get that. I wouldn't've made it through 2020 without my WFMU palz.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Phillippe Bastille:

Maryland created its own Canadian Geese problem through well-meaning but not well-thought-out intervention. Years ago when the goose population was threatened, they started a program where they had geese nesting here instead of Canada. Somehow they expected the geese to go to Canada in the summer, not fully grasping the fact that the geese migrate to and from where they were born, not Canada just because.
  4:50pm j:

Hiya from Mt Shasta
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Julie:

they've slaughtered them en masse here because of airplanes. Sad thing is they did it in such a way they couldn't even be used for food.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Julie:

hi there j!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Scott67:

Never heard this Bowie! But I was busy getting born that year. 😎
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Julie:

I really get a kick out of that era of Bowie
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Handy Haversack:

Phillippe, have they tried it explaining it to the geese in Canadian? It could be a language issue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Mike Sin:

Anthony Newley really gets a kick out of that era of Bowie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Julie:

haha for sure
  4:53pm Dean:

I had that Bowie on 8-track.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Phillippe Bastille:

Handy, it's right up there with wanting to move the deer crossing sign so they'll cross the street where it isn't so busy.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Julie:

man how annoying were 8-tracks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Mike Sin:

Just in case anyone was wondering -- Tom McGuinness from Manfred Mann produced that one and only single by Gervase.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Phillippe Bastille:

I don't miss 8-track tapes but I do miss the '69 Mustang I had the 8-track player in...
Avatar 4:56pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Hah, I have not heard that Bowie either, even if I have some re-release of that lp. What I found rather funny was the "Hey Joe" chord progression, for a few seconds I thought it actually was some weird version of that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm northguineahills:

And to think in '96, I bought a desk size of furniture just b/c it had an 8-track player....
  4:56pm Dean:

Not all 8-track players came wrapped in '69 Mustangs, that's true.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm northguineahills:

(got rid of it when I moved to NUC)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Julie:

my mom had it in one of those old brown panel station wagons
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm northguineahills:

errr, NYC
Avatar 4:58pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

So unfair 8-tracks never became that common in Europe - I've never seen one actually. Cassettes were the norm in Finland at least.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

the last time i rode in a car that actually played 8-tracks was a Dodge Dart in 1993
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Julie:

the thing that was annoying is they would split a song in half...it would fade out, move to the next track, and fade back in. UGH
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

Have you seen that fun doc about 8-Tracks called "So Wrong They're Right?"
  4:59pm Dean:

Mine was in one of those cheesy turntable/tuner/8-track things with separate right and left channel speaker boxes, all easily set atop a bookshelf.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm northguineahills:

(I only had a grand total of 8 8-tracks (ironically)).
  4:59pm Dean:

On the bright side, ngh, that's 64 tracks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm northguineahills:

Mostly Beatles and classic rock I found in the thrift stores.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Phillippe Bastille:

Remember having to wedge a pack of matches under the cartridge to make sure the tracks aligned properly with the deck heads?
Avatar 5:00pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

My Dad went from reel to reel straight to Cassette. That's how long he had his old HMV. Wish he still had it!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Julie:

i have an Elton reel to reel from some radio appearance. Nothing to play it on at the moment. I'm sure my dad must've had them but they were long gone by the time I was paying any attention
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

Photocopy Cha Cha 2000: YAY! (full disclosure, the director is a pal of mine, and i dated one of the subjects interviewed, AND it's a really great film!!!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Mike Sin:

The best part about 8-tracks -- Some maniac was willing to pay me somewhere between 20 and 30 bucks each for copies of Iggy "The Idiot" and The Jam "In the City" 8-track tapes. He paid that even though I could not guarantee they would play after being in my folks' 100-degree attic for 20 years.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Julie:

wow. so I guess there are die-hards still
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Phillippe Bastille:

You know the best kinds of maniacs, Mike.
Avatar 5:03pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Oh yeah, for whatever reason the tapes used in school (for instance in language studios and in classrooms) were rarely cassettes, most often reel-to-reels, which is why my teacher mom had a reel-to-reel at our home.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

Mike Sin: one thing i learned from the doc was that 8-track fans are NOT reasonable
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

Reel to reel has such rich sound quality. My dad had a Grundig r2r and we used to listen to his recordings of music from AM radio when I was a kid. Sounded amazing
  5:03pm Dean:

When I last visited the stereo shop three or blocks from my house, sometime last year, the owner had begun collecting reel-to-reel tapes of various vintages. Really amazing stuff. He was anticipating an expanding market. Cool guy. He engineered a bunch of hit records: Boston, EW&F, even Hendrix, long ago.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Julie:

oooh cool Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Mike Sin:

I'm assuming it was just a hoarder/collector buying an "object" to put on a shelf or add to a shrine or something.

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Spinning Giant:

Handy, I love that you play poker weekly with afterlife Nick - i don't even really like (nor understand) the game - but I may need to get in on it, if only for that! lol
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Handy Haversack:

Cha Cha, I don't know if he knows the singer -- we're all too awkward to bring it up! Nerds!

Hey, Spinning Giant! Everyone at poker loves to welcome people who don't understand the game, of course.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Spinning Giant:

weird! :$ when i look up this Minaxi record on Spoitfy, this song ain't on it...vinyl/CD/hardcopy bias only...? just curious...i know, Spotify sucks...that's where my buddies hang out, so by default, moi aussi...and since rdio folded...well, the streamaverse offers no meaningful options i've stumbled across...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Julie:

hmm I don't know, my copy is digital from bandcamp

Ooooh, Rdio adverts were so cool - the finnish-spoken ones I mean, as the speaker had a bit of an (american I presume) accent, lovely really.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Spinning Giant:

technically, i'm still "working" - but i can't resist hanging out here with all you degenerates ;) ...nobody rat me out, 'kay...
Avatar 5:37pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

when releasing music through a distribution service you can choose on which streaming platforms and digital stores you want it to be available. So you can select iTunes and opt out from Spotify for instance.
You do it all yourself for Bandcamp.

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:16pm Julie:

hiya ike, thank you! I wish he'd continued to play other keyboards more..organs, harpsichord
  6:16pm Dean:

Dudgeon produced a couple albums by Dutch jazz rock band Solution. One, Cordon Bleu, is on Rocket. Haven't listened in ages, but I remember enjoying them quite a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm ike p:

omg now i want to turn a corner at renn faire and see Sir Elton completely turned out with a harpsichord entertaining in a secret grotto with meade flowing like...wine?
  6:17pm Gerry from Miami:

I noticed the title of this live Elton John album uses the European dating system as its title, 17-11-70 instead of what I have always called it, 11-17-70. Different titles for different markets, eh?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Julie:

yep..11-17-70 is what I have as well, but 17-11-70 for probably everywhere else
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Julie:

also Hi Gerry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm northguineahills:

Hi, Julie! Wasn't "Lady Samantha" covered by Three Dog Night? Just a random thought that passed through my head just now. If I'm mistaken, blame it on the fact that I got my first COVID-19 shot today.

The young Elton/Bernie combo was on fire! Prolific as hell with great song after great song. And Elton's piano playing is superb.
Avatar 6:25pm HyperDose:

Hey Gerry that's great!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Such a convincing Singer. You don't doubt him.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...all great songs, bands, performances...
  6:31pm Gerry from Miami:

Thanks, everybody, for the well wishes for getting my vaccination cycle started today. But I'm fortunate to be in two "favored" groups, both over 65 and a veteran. So many Americans are encountering numerous problems in getting their shots. I hope Biden and his team can figure this mess out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm northguineahills:

My parents got their vaccine last weekend (and they're huge GOPers)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Rich in Washington:

Shoutout to DJ GeorgyGirl! That was a wonderful show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Rich in Washington:

She's on the Sheena's Jungle Room stream.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Julie:

is that not what I said?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Julie:

I get her confused with the other one..DJ Girl Group Girl or something? But she's on Rock and Soul
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Julie:

I'm gonna listen to both her elton shows in one block I think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Rich in Washington:

GG's on the Sheena stream but I believe one of her (3) shows gets re-aired on the Rock and Soul stream.
Avatar 6:36pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

An Elton berginner asking; are those cover versions of Nick Drake songs checking out?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Julie:

dang I want three shows!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Rich in Washington:

This is great, Julie! Been listening since the beginning but too busy editing something to respond until now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm doctorjazz:

Been lurking, enjoying EJ!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Julie:

Cha Cha I've got one ready to go. they are lovely, as are the John Martyn ones. No official release though
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Handy Haversack:

My ninety-three-year-old aunt and her wife got their first jabs today in Michigan.
Avatar 6:41pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@6:37 Julie: I trust your judgement, thanks!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

These kind of questions are often impossible to answer when one loves an artist, truly, but what do you think is Elton's "best" album? Is it Capt Fantastic?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Woh. Didn't know anything about this. Interesting - as Drake's delivery is as ominous & impressive as his writing. But he wasn't a monument then yet. & Elton perhaps in a phase still ravenous for material?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Julie:

S&M&S that was my favorite for a long time. a lot of people love Yellow Brick Road. For me it's Elton John (and then Empty Sky)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Julie:

this is the only song I'm playing with Elton's post-vocal surgery voice today
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Thanks, Julie! Was keen to know! x
Avatar 6:45pm HyperDose:

As someone who always wanted to explore Elton's catalog further, this set has been invaluable. Thank you Julie!
  6:46pm SG:

Julie, Shrenik here. Thank you for playing some Minaxi this evening! Just tuning in after a full day teaching remotely.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Julie:

so glad you like it Hyper! It was very hard to keep it to an hour.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Julie:

hiya SG, good stuff!
  6:47pm SG:

@Spinning Giant: If you look up the album "The Zia Fantasy / Luna", It's Got Me is track number 3. We released it as a trilogy of EPs on our streams. The bandcamp version was consolidated once the trilogy was out.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Julie:

this was def a good excuse to dig out the Lord Choc Ice
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Julie:

good on ya for the remote teaching, I know it's REALLY hard. I got two teachers in my family and a few friends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Scott67:

Hey chresti! Just noticed you've snuck in. 😎🐾 \\// I don't have Spock emoji on this device.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Julie:

there's a spock emoji???
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Julie:

this set is heavily Elton as a singer as opposed to writer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Scott67:

His hand sign yep. Hang on a sec while I switch tablets.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Julie:

I probably won't have time to back announce I have one more I want to get in before Jesse comes on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Scott67:

🖖 Live long & prosper Julie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Julie:

oh cool..it kinda looks like a little flame
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:55pm spodiodi:

thanks Julie!
  6:55pm SG:

It definitely has its challenges especially when the internet cuts out. Other than that, it's a little easier since I teach adults and most of them are good with technology
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Julie:

thanks for listening everyone!
  6:56pm SG:

Thanks for the tunes, Julie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Holy cow, this cover of "Spirit in the Sky"!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

TY Julie !
Always rewarding & a good time.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Julie:

ah yes..both my family members were doing 50/50 live/remote which is crazy
Avatar 6:58pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

The four hours are always over much too soon. Thanks so much Julie, listeners!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Julie:

I think these were done for budget soundalike albums
  6:58pm Gerry from Miami:

Pretty good cover. But Norman Greenbaum's original is unchallenged. Anyone remember Norman's follow-up single, "Canned Ham?" Thought so! LOL!
  6:59pm Marci:

Great EJ set - wasn’t aware of all the covers! I recall “Lucy” being huge as a hit as possible when I was a kid
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Handy Haversack:

Shoot -- was cooking! And listening! Thanks, Julie! Great show and EJ set.

Be well, Dark Ones!
