Todd-o-Phonic Todd, if you get a chance, I placed a post at the tail end of Daisy's show tonight at 7:58. There was scant time for listeners to read it, but I think you would really get a kick out of it. It involves the work of two American record companies in Vietnam during the war.

Just learned of Jimmy Rodgers's death today. I can remember boppin' out to "Honeycomb" and "Uh Oh, I'm Fallin' in Love Again" at junior high sock hops. Listeners should read the Rodgers bio in Wikipedia. His career crossed paths with the freakin' Mafia, for God's sake!

Gerry from Miami:

Chili Pagoda, my sophomore roommate in college was from Clairton, a tough steel mill town near Pittsburgh. So I received a complete education in Pittsburgh culture--KDKA, the Pirates and Steelers, Tommy James and the Shondells, the Vogues and yes, his beloved fave DJ, Mr. Porky Chedwick. He told me to forget Wolfman Jack, Jerry Blavat, Kasey Kasem and Cousin Brucie. Porky was the real deal!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm
Chili Pagoda:

@GerryFromMiami Right on! My dad and Uncle John turned me on to Pork The Tork, there was a local am station that used to replay his shows and I just totally got into them. Your roommate from Clairton knew the score - Porky, the ayatollah of rocknrollah was the greatest(along with Cleveland’s finest, The Mad Daddy Pete Myers).

Gerry from Miami:

Is that the "Slow Down" that Beatle John Lennon heard and brought to the band for a stirring cover version?
Avatar 8:51pm
Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Gerry from Miami: Same song and artist, though the version I played tonight was probably recorded after The Beatles cut it. Like Little Richard, Larry Williams redid a lot of his stuff in the sixties.
  8:52pm
Gerry from Miami:

That's what I suspected, Todd.

Gerry from Miami:

Gaylord and Todd, I know you guys remember the character played by Daniel Stern in "Diner." When he freaks out because his wife refiled a James Brown 45 in the wrong place in his treasured record collection, I saw myself and collectors like you two reflected on the silver screen. Crazy hobby, obsessive record collecting, but so much fun!
Avatar 9:26pm
Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Gerry from Miami: Didn't he have his records filed by label?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm
Gaylord Fields:

Damn, I love this song, Todd! Beverly will cut a guy — and dead even!
Avatar 9:27pm
Hackensack Slim:

Beverly sounds like she means business!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Gerry: My being a record collector must be some sort of penance for living one or several lives as a very bad person. But at least my records are filed randomly instead of in any sensible order.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Hackensack Slim: Do not — and I mean DO NOT — mention your ex if you're dating Beverly, or out comes the shiv!
Avatar 9:30pm
Hackensack Slim:

Sage Advice, Gaylord.
  9:31pm
Gerry from Miami:

No Todd, he had them sorted by genre. He was pissed at his wife for putting the record back in his soul section instead of R&B. (Or vice versa, my memory is fuzzy).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm
patrick321:

That Beverly Jones "cut" can be found on Sheila B's premium of last year BTW
Avatar 9:33pm
Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Gerry from Miami: Ah, that's how I have mine sorted too. Though for the 45's I have the soul and r&b sections as one so I would at least avoid that pitfall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm
Gaylord Fields:

Todd, I play that record as a warning to any potential suitors of Beverly.
