Listener comments!

Avatar 2:35pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

I'm having my vinyl warm-up hour, so I might miss the first song or so - yet that won't stop me from saying HELLO to julie & other souls of the dark night.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Julie:

okay Cha Cha see you soon!! What's in your warmup today?
Avatar 2:46pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Roxy Music's albums "Manifesto" (side two only - actually called "west side") and "Flesh & Blood", Laura Nyro's 1st album & 10cc's "Sheet Music", the b-side of which is on as we speak. Sorry, I simply am horribly old-fashioned - even if you listen to one side only, you listen to it until its over (unless the music is horrible garbage), so therefore I might miss the song you start the show with :(
Avatar 2:48pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

And the warm-up hour playlist must be: whole albums, from my personal vinyl collection and most importantly, artists you have played on this show.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Julie:

sounds fabulous!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:00pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Julie:

I figured it was me
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Julie:

anyone else having issues? let me know and I'll alert the PTB
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Phillippe Bastille:

@chris I was having that issue on the mothership stream. seems to be good here. I'm going to attribute that to Julie's skill and experience
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:08pm chris in the redwoods:

no problems last five minutes. lighting a candle at the alter of the interwebs for continued signal strength :)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Julie:

LOL
Avatar 3:08pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Thanks Kinks track that I missed reminds me I must revisit the show you did that showcased the 70s Kinks (so didn't Gaylord Fields do one where the theme was 60s Kinks)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Julie:

hi Chris!
Avatar 3:09pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Gibberish - I mean That Kinks track..... aaaarrggghh
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:09pm woj:

the mothership stream was occasionally cutting in and out during michelllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllle's show for me and i figured it was just remote issues until i remembered she's skelly crue. so far, so good here though!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Julie:

Yes Cha Cha we did two Kinks shows together
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Phillippe Bastille:

love this Lily of the Valley (we used to have them growing by our mailbox! the flower, not the band).
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Phillippe Bastille:

Oh how cool! I was commenting on another show last week how the band sounded like The 3 o'clock! And here we are! (11 minutes late though)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Little Danny:

Hey Julie, hey all
Avatar 3:13pm βrian:

Well, I think they're on Pacific time, actually.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Julie:

woj, 17 more comments before you hit your limit. use them wisely
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Julie:

Hiya Dean! Ha..WOJ I'm so behind on my techtonic... I used to listen to it on long rides around the city which I no longer take
Avatar 3:18pm βrian:

I had a friend who showed up at a crucial moment bearing food and wine. She was henceforth known as Salvation Amy.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Yes, woj, this is a four-hour show, so space them out appropriately. Five per hour.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Julie:

Hi Ken!!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Julie. The snow is letting up here. Less than six inches, I think.
  3:22pm Dean:

βrian, Was the crucial moment perchance 3:00?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Julie:

I had a mishap at the house. Broken pipes. What a MESS. I got really lucky though, no real water damage just an open wall where the plumber had to get in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Little Danny:

Beautiful. Makes me think of Julia Holter's "Hello Stranger" for some reason.
Avatar 3:23pm βrian:

Al Green says it was three o'clock in the morning.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Julie:

Probably enough snow I'll need to get the drive plowed again before I go up I think.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Julie:

ah I love Julia Holter. Had her in for a session that was..kind of a mess. But still.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Little Danny:

That was the first time I heard your show, Julie! I don't remember it being that messy, loved it.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Phillippe Bastille:

You were lucky, Julie. A friend of mine had a pipe burst in his finished basement while he and his family were on vacation. $65k in damage from the water and mold.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Julie:

Oh yeah it played back okay..but we had some issues getting things to work right.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Julie:

Philippe believe me I know!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:27pm woj:

ugh, julie, that sucks. hope were you not trying to copycat eliza rickman's plumbing problems!

this holy circle tune sounds like zola jesus lite kinda sorta.

endeavoring to increase my content/comment ratio after finding out about the per-show limit!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Wow! Broken pipes can lead to a whole lot of damage. A little more snow predicted Thursday and single-digit temps he next few nights.
  3:27pm northguineahills:

Listening while drinking beer and playing mini-golf.no one here. Getting my sanity back.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Julie:

Well my heat is working now so hopefully no more issues anytime soon with THAT!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:29pm chris in the redwoods:

beer and mini golf FTW, ngh! :)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Julie:

ooh NGH that sounds fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Threemoons:

Don't watch that trial. Go watch this hearing for larfs instead...always preview your video before joining a Zoom meeting, kiddies, especially when it's a legal proceeding in front of a judge.. youtu.be...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Julie:

yes I saw that! so funny!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Julie:

which goes nicely with this song BTW
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Threemoons:

LOL and yes thank you for the kitty tune up to match
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm WaffleMix:

I signed in so I can favorite this one
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Julie:

hi WaffleMix! mmm...waffles
  3:42pm Dean:

A slow leak upstairs for five years or so resulted in a sudden crash of first floor laundry room ceiling one day. I had the good fortune of hearing it. Quite a sight and sound, but the damage wasn't as horrendous as it could have been.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Julie:

oh my god
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Julie:

I'll never forget the grand canyon on the brady bunch where someone said "that's what happens when you leave the water running"
  3:47pm Dean:

An old house, too, in these parts, 1910. Got the plumbing fixed right away, but took some time to patch the ceiling. Had a nice view of the lath and plaster guts of this place.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:47pm woj:

that exact thing happened in the house i grew up in, dead, except the ceiling crashed down on the living room couch. fortunately, it was early in the morning and no one was there...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Julie:

YIKES.
  3:47pm Dean:

I forgot that Grand Canyon joke, but I'm glad you remembered it!
Avatar 3:48pm βrian:

My house has plaster which I really like. Incredibly solid.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:49pm woj:

betsy martin! <3
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Julie:

she's a little bit less caterwauly here
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:02pm woj:

even caterwaul had their calm(er) ballads. one per album as i recall,,,
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Andrew Waterloo:

good afternoon
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Phillippe Bastille:

Our current house was built in 1955 right on the sand. Somewhere along the line they dug out a basement and did some shoring up, but the musty smell is never gonna go away 100% down there
Avatar 4:14pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

oh! 🖤
Avatar 4:17pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

"Local" talent I presume? ;)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:19pm chris in the redwoods:

this is really nice! :)
Avatar 4:20pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

yeah, thanks. I’m not on this one tbh, only mixing/producing
Avatar 4:22pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:19 chris in the redwoods: these thoughts exactly, whenever they are played here, and then I realise it is them. I really have to listen more!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Julie:

it counts!
Avatar 4:23pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

thank you, Julie, it does that’s true
Avatar 4:25pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

It's cool you guys are on the comments board so the listeners get to tell you directly they liked your stuff!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Julie:

Sylvia seems to like my show! (shrug)
Avatar 4:28pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

your show is where the cool kids are!
Avatar 4:29pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:26 Julie: Of course, that is why we are here, I meant it is a nice bonus to give feedback in real time to the persons involved with the music.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Julie:

for sure!
Avatar 4:32pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@ChaCha I’m not sure all djs appreciate that, but I do enjoy connecting with people and talk about music or more random stuff like we do here
Avatar 4:35pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

I never really get to meet irl like-minded people -music wise, so that’s great
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Julie:

man that is so true
Avatar 4:36pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Whoopee, I recently got the Madcap Laughs/Barrett Harvest vinyl twofer, which was the record how I heard Syd properly for the first time 29 years ago (save for two Syd-Floyd tracks some time before that)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm northguineahills:

back, thanks for keeping me company!
Avatar 4:39pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Another vinyl find: the french Barclay mono mix of Are You Experienced? The cool kids told me that is where it is at.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Julie:

Cha Cha that's where I found him the first time too! long time ago. WB NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Little Danny:

This Hendrix track is brand new to me, dang.
Avatar 4:40pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@Sylvia same here, I'm glad this is a friendly environment where like-minded souls can communicate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm northguineahills:

@Photcopy: so, no one here? (maybe julie) 😜
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Julie:

Little Danny that's the one Hendrix album you gotta have!
Avatar 4:43pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:42 Julie: I'm glad I found it as a vulnerable 8-year old. Essential, be it the only album to own from him or a starting point with Hendrix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Little Danny:

Oh I have and love it, Julie! My U.S. pressing didn't have that track, tho.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Julie:

oh weird...there are so many different versions..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm northguineahills:

swamp German is hard (once dated a Dutch woman).
Avatar 4:47pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:43 Little Danny: while the US albums of Beatles/stones/Hendrix (are you experienced mainly?) are interesting, they still are frustrating in how they interfere with the original concepts as it were (well, maybe simply put just track lists) with inexplicable omissions
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm northguineahills:

I think I first saw CDs in '84, and I wasn't even into music at the time (I was 8).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Little Danny:

Totally, Photocopy CC. The Beatles catalog seems especially to have been arranged and rearranged for release during the '60s.
  4:50pm Scott67:

G'day Julie & Soul Mates! ✌😎🌏
Avatar 4:51pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

you play what your heart tells you to!

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Julie:

hiya Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Scott67:

Hi Sylvia! 😎
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Julie:

all the early Olivia albums are like that, different releases/songs/titles for UK/US/Australia...
Avatar 4:53pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:48 northguineahills: same here, the year 1984, the summer of LA Olympics, me 8 years old seeing those weird discs for the first time! I can't understand how the local sports/consumer electronics shop could've had them then, I lived in the sticks really. i remember they had weird cases (not the jewel cases that came a few years later) and they were mistakenly called laser discs (which they of course weren't - but apart from Karaoke hosts, no-one really had the proper LaserDiscs in Finland, maybe some rich yuppies?)
Avatar 4:55pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

on Tuesdays, Scott and I meet early on Polyglot then again on Julie's, that's funny :)
Avatar 4:55pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

it's Wednesday for you now though, Scott

cool back 2 back trax <3
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Julie:

hi Andrew!
  5:03pm Dean:

A track called "Breathe" is on the 1970 album by Roger Waters and Ron
Geesin, Music from the Body. Not the same as the DSOTM track, but similar. First track on MFTB is great for ending parties.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Julie:

ooh I may have to check that out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Scott67:

NGH, that's me to a tee mate. Random! 😁
  5:04pm Mr Nobody:

So what food have we been talking about today? lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm northguineahills:

Mazzy Star!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Julie:

no food, more leaks in houses
  5:07pm harry:

Ooh, Breathe and Beware of Darkness are kind of soundalikes
  5:07pm Dean:

Let's just say that the first track on the Geesin/Waters album would be suitable on an album titled All Things Must Pass.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Julie:

hi Harry! That's the first song I've played off that record, I just went for something that I didn't know already.
  5:08pm Mr Nobody:

Oh....yeah food is a much more fun topic than leaks in houses.
  5:08pm Mr Nobody:

The joys of home ownership.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Julie:

im having pancakes for dinner. I'm very looking forward to that provided the microwave is kind to them
  5:12pm harry:

Hi Julie :) Love your show, listen every week from London.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Julie:

awww thanks, Harry. London is one of my very favorite places.
  5:13pm Mr Nobody:

Ohhh we had pancakes for breakfast they were quite good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm northguineahills:

WHYYES sounds like Allison Shaw (the Cranes).

@Julie. I had Indian curry at 6am, so, let's switch!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Julie:

yikes 6am curry would definitely set the pace for the day I think
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Julie:

NGH they only seem to have this EP. Hopefully more soon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Scott67:

Double espresso for breakfast, by usual.
  5:15pm Mr Nobody:

London is one of those places I do want to go back to some day. Been forever ago since I was there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm northguineahills:

@Julie: It was Indian spicey w/ chili peppers and my own dried crushed pepers. Better then caffeine. (I like my breakfast before bed).
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Julie:

these ladies are from Finland, Cha Cha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm northguineahills:

@Mr. Nobody: Hadn't been to London since my first kiss at age 17 (and then some)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Julie:

@NGH that would probably kill me. I don't do spicy so well
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Julie:

I got kisses in London about that age. I still think about that guy. He has a super common name though, I'll never find him
  5:20pm Mr Nobody:

Well not with that attitude...lol
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Julie:

LOL I've tried... there's a jillion Kevin Donegans
  5:21pm Dean:

The Lamb sessions? So fun to hear the album fill out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm ike p:

Hey! Thanks!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Julie:

hiya ike! this was supposed to be for a documentary that never aired, Dean
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm northguineahills:

@Julie: I miss my garden, I had 9'/3m high ghost pepper plants producing 30 some peppers per week. I couldn't eat them all or give them away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm northguineahills:

(I used to eat them like apples in the morning to get me moving [after 20 mins of brain freeze])
  5:24pm Mr Nobody:

Excess of peppers? Salsa time!
  5:24pm Mr Nobody:

Eating ghost peppers like apples in the morning? I think I would never need coffee.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Julie:

something called a ghost pepper sounds pretty scary
  5:26pm Dean:

A buddy of mine now and then sends me CDrs of hours of recordings of Genesis outtakes. Perversely, sometimes I find I enjoy bootlegs--bad sonic quality, photocopied paper covers--more than official releases. This is often the case with Genesis. Awed Man Out, As Though Emerald City...great bootleg LPs.

BigFat's 8o8 is one hot pepper sauce. But they shut down last year.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Handy Haversack:

Hi, Julie, everyone. Sorry I'm late.
Avatar 5:27pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

nice cover
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Phillippe Bastille:

oh, I love this Barone. Barone and Mastro were one of my go-to bands back in the day.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Handy Haversack:

Why, Julie!

Actually, mostly novocaine and hassle.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Handy. All canines in good shape?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Scott67:

G'day Handy! 😎
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey Handy. dribble when you drink still?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm northguineahills:

Technically, a bhut jolokia. The second hottest pepper. I also grew carolina reapers, the hottest pepper. There's a youtube video of me when I was a ghost pepper noob, and it kicked my ass (it's rather funny, my partner is laughing at me). My friend who won, stayed most of the day in the bathroom. I just drank 5 pints of lager just get my mouth to the point of talking (stomach was ok).
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Handy Haversack:

I guess they're in better shape now, Ken, after all the prodding. And I'm in better shape, too, arguably, after the ~90 blocks of walking to and from.

Hey, Scott, Phillippe! I managed some flask whisky on the ferry with my *normal* levels of a certain quiet dignity, I would say.

If I can catch my breath, I'll tell the story of the Ghost Pepper Gang.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Scott67:

  5:33pm john b:

Siouxsie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Julie:

oh apparently people like Siouxsie. Good to know!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Handy Haversack:

As in teeth. An extra-deep, highly poking-based cleaning with all requisite needles and sustained body tensing. Plus it was in upper Midtown, 51st St. and 6th, so lots of walking with very brief ferry rides sprinkled in.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Julie:

hi John!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Julie:

ahhh I need to get to the dentist soon as well
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Just home from outside. Thank you, Julie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Julie:

hiya S&M&S!
  5:36pm Mr Nobody:

Never had reapers, ghost or the jolokia straight. I have had a number of things made with them though. They can be crazy stupid hot. If you don't like hot foods probably best to stay away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Little Danny:

Bouncing homeward for the day. Thanks for the great show, Julie.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:37pm chris in the redwoods:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Julie:

thanks for dropping by Danny!
  5:37pm Mr Nobody:

A bar near my office does a ghost pepper infused tequila that is pretty amazing but will light you up. Makes for some spicy but amazing margaritas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Scott67:

NGH, wow you did go quiet there mate, lucky there was beer. You partner had the right idea, eating it in food, not as food. 😎🤙🍺
Avatar 5:40pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

At Big Planet Noise "(insert band/Artist here) every week" stands for one's huge appreciation of a band/artist, therefore I shall use the phrase here too: SIOUXSIE EVERY WEEK.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Julie:

I will try to play her more. My appreciation came late, I was busy with Toyah and Kate (and olivia of course)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Threemoons:

BOWIE! I haven't hauled out that album in ages!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Phillippe Bastille:

Gotta run! Thanks Julie! Gonna watch me some NASCAR tonight (maybe the most un-FMU thing ever!)!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Handy Haversack:

Kate had a class where some students in the back kept leaving and coming back and leaving and coming back. They didn't disrupt the class, really, but she noticed. Afterward they and the classroom teacher came up to apologize. They had dared one another to eat ghost peppers and were going out in the hall to throw up. I admire them so much. That's being a teenager *right*!

I named a thieves guild in my D&D game the Ghost Pepper Gang in their honor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm northguineahills:

@Scott: She did not eat any. a few years I would crush some dried/smoke ghosts and put some in her food. I slowly built a tolerance. When I met her in Mexico, her friends were like, "who is this lad", as I kept on eating chili peppers and hot sauces that were too much for them.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Julie:

haha bye Phillipe, enjoy!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Handy Haversack:

Later, Phillippe!

I had some ghost pepper cheese in Wisconsin. It was good. Spicy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Scott67:

A Bowie, about time. I was beginning to think I was in the wrong show. 😆
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm northguineahills:

laters, Phillippe!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Julie:

my mom could eat a jalapeno out of the jar I'm convinced her taste buds were dead from smoking
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Julie:

and tabasco she loved her tabasco
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm northguineahills:

@Handy: *homerdrool.gif*

fresh ghost peppers from the garden have an almost mekon/tangerine flavor to them if you can get past the heat, very tasty.
Avatar 5:44pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Never ate a ghost pepper - I have not lived.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Julie:

tobasco?
  5:44pm Dean:

8o8 is Carolina Reaper. Yummy.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Julie:

wait mekon is a food? I thought it was a band
Avatar 5:45pm βrian:

Tabasco.
  5:46pm Dean:

Didn't we do a food bands hour already?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm northguineahills:

@Julie: I was 6 when I discovered tabasco. I never looked back. When I was in Thailand when I was 12, I thought I saw what was akin to italian red pepper. It was dried bird-eye chilis. I covered my food in it. I was in for a rude awakening. (I came back later for more moderate amounts...)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Julie:

we did..I think it was mostly fruit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm northguineahills:

mekons are Japanese tangerines.
Avatar 5:47pm βrian:

From time to time, 7rOld will try one single drop on something: "Nope, not yet!" After which she scarfs dairy to recover.
  5:47pm Dean:

Mostly fruit, not, say, Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Julie:

unlikely I would play them in any circumstance.
Avatar 5:49pm βrian:

They always sounded a bit constipated to my ears.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Julie:

everyone has one good song, I haven't found theirs yet.
  5:50pm Dean:

Same here. RHCP get boring very quickly. But I always thought Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins needed more fiber in his diet.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Julie:

I do enjoy watching Flea though..
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Handy Haversack:

Fortunately my dentist is cool and specifically recommended using whisky to recover. I'm currently assuming whiskey is also OK.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Julie:

YIKES sorry about that
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Handy Haversack:

I saw Flea play with Jane's Addiction on their relapse tour, which was the best thing I've ever seen from him other than The Big Lebowski.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Julie:

I am a huge believer in whiskey's healing properties
  5:52pm Dean:

I might be making this up, but I'm pretty sure Flea was playing when I saw FEAR at Al's Bar.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Handy Haversack:

I made us a couple of Little Italys. Cheers, everyone.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Julie:

what's in a little italy?
Avatar 5:54pm βrian:

I made myself a glass of white wine. ("Hey, I'm translucent!")
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Handy Haversack:

Rye (2 oz.), sweet vermouth (.75 oz.), Cynar (.5 oz). Stir, strain, serve up, cherry garnish.

BTW, Ken fHP, if you're still here, two pizza places. But it's a weird, desolate route, 1st Ave. from 34th to 51st, then 51st to 6th Ave. 1st Ave. is mostly just the UN through there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm northguineahills:

Feel better, Handy! (Now I want whisky). I should brush my teeth more often, and I never floss, but I have no cavities....
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Handy Haversack:

Thanks, ngh! No cavities here either; it's the gums.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:01pm Handy Haversack:

Rats, no American Whale! Maybe Ken's on it for tomorrow!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:02pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Oof. Can't wake up & not a mg. of caffeine in this place... Woulda been here a little earlier I think... Brilliant song this DresdenDs...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Ah, so. Just two pizza places? Maybe next time, we'll count discount electronics stores. Haha!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Julie:

Rev rabbit maybe you need some hot peppers!
  6:04pm Dean:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Handy Haversack:

I worry about this set's grades because it is definitely too cool for school!
  6:24pm Dean:

Gonna play a track by America? Maybe they aren't cool, but I like America.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Julie:

I kinda like them too but I ended up cutting them in favor of FOA. I will play one for you another time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm chresti:

At first I read Lebanon Hangover.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Handy Haversack:

America did The Last Unicorn soundtrack, right? I think I like them too.
  6:26pm Dean:

The name Taiwan Housing Project reminds me of a punk "club" (really, just some guy's house) in the late '70s, Vietnamese Baby Cafe.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

chresti that *would* be too close to home...
  6:28pm Dean:

Was on Hadley St. in uptown Whittier, not exactly the epicenter of LA punk.

America!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Scott67:

I read it WITH a hangover! 😉🍺
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm chresti:

Going to jump in the shower, thank you Julie, if I don't make it out before you're done

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Julie:

hi Marci! @Cha Cha in WFMU terms it is very not cool
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Julie:

but there is no ASIA no EUROPE

Chicago...but their old stuff retains the cool.
  6:34pm Dean:

New England?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Julie:

is there a band that has new england in their name?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Julie:

New England is the band. Power pop vibe. Worth hearing.

UK?

There's a *New* England now?

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Julie:

I suppose the Village People might've worked...I think they really named themselves after THE village
Avatar 6:35pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@6:33 Julie: I like the music WFMU plays - maybe not its terms & conditions regarding 'cool' music. Plus, for some decidedly uncool music, I loved Evan Funk Davies' hair metal special.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Julie:

hiya Miles!!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Julie:

Cha Cha I've never been a music snob. If I like it I play it.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Julie:

Miles "B" is too broad, I have a zillion B bands
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Julie:

this song doesn't need more cowbell
Avatar 6:37pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@6:36 Julie: you just put into words the very reason I love your show.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Julie:

Evan does such a great show
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Pretty great you haven't been overexposed in a while! Influence on Teen Spirit & all that... Course the story is Tom Shultz did it all w/ the Vocalist - & when it hit huge - had to make an actual band 'Boston' that didn't exist...
  6:38pm Dean:

Shoot, just occurred to me that Goose Creek Symphony (a band, not an orchestra) would have fit in today.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

Jumping to say hello. Been passively listening while being passive aggressive in work meetings. Will have to give a proper listen in the archive
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Julie:

ohhhhhh how nice Scott. You really do need to send me some photos some day
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Julie:

hm i wonder how many bands have orchestra or symphony in their name
  6:41pm Dean:

Would Symphonic Slam count?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Julie:

I suppose?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Julie:

is Sylvia awake, maybe she has an idea
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

Looks like a geographical themed bonus hour. What about a geometric themed bonus hour?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Julie:

hmmm squares and circles and such? there's a thought!
Avatar 6:43pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

what’s the question?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Handy Haversack:

Very cool, Scott.

Round two mixed. A Contessa for Kate (gin, Aperol, dry vermouth) and a Vendome for me (gin, Dubonnet, dry vermouth). Feeling almost human again. Though like a human who got punched in the mouth. And body.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Julie:

LOL we're just musing about themes
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

songs or bands. lines, angles, shapes, etc
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:43pm luka:

the average Writhing Squares song would fill 1/3 of an hour.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:43pm woj:

nazareth would complete the trifecta with boston and kansas
  6:43pm Dean:

Not that I'm suggesting a theme for next week, but this Kansas album title offers one for the future: songs/albums with puns.

Geometry is terrific! Any group do a song about asymptotes?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Julie:

I don't even know that band, luka? Prog rock?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I was just going thru this guy's animal photos :

...Well this set has a couple things I assiduously avoided in high school...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Julie:

I have no nazareth! I like the geometry, I'll do that next week.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Julie:

ahhh yeah I like that one too
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Julie:

  6:48pm Dean:

Does Focus count for geometry? Alexis Korner? Circle Jerks, obviously. Lots of sine, cosine, tangent action on Discogs, including Sine Cosine Tangent.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Handy Haversack:

Aren't they trig?

There HAS to have been a band called Conical Sections.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Let's see if supergroup Asia makes the cut.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Julie:

nooo no Asia
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Handy Haversack:

Mexrissey -- counts for this endeavor?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Julie:

is that a mexican morrisey cover band?
  6:51pm Dean:

Evan Parker has an album called Conical Sections. It's live, perhaps recorded in a church, a solo recital consisting of long tracks of extended breathing technique on his saxophone.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Handy Haversack:

Yes and. They do their own material, too. Very Smiths inspired. A thousand times better than Morrissey (to my mind, at least).
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Julie:

I've been looking forward to this song all day
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Julie:

wow I will have to check them out, Handy, thanks!

Another thought to file away: negative energy. Unwoman, Antibalas, No (FX, Doubt, etc.). Anything that denies.

Thanks, Julie. So glad to have caught part of the show. Feeling much better now that I'm out of the cruel day and into the Dark Night.

Be well, Dark Ones. Glad to see you here, where the only light is all of us.
