Two sides to every story but I'm going with Todd's version of what transpired. Seems Andy P was in true self-sabotage and blame Todd mode. Todd was invested enough to exercise some authority on what happened to the material and good things happened for album/single (which he was of course "blamed" for)...Kinda sad story. What happens when you produce a record for a mental case.

The Wire at its best (for me, seasons 2 and 4) is perhaps the best tv ever, but overall I'd say Sopranos is the better show. The Deuce worthwhile just for Franco's dual performance, and two brief appearances by Jersey City's own Wyldlife.

i agree with that although I stopped watching sopranos 2/3 of the way through. and I went to college in Bmore so that may bias me. I think one of the best things about The Wire is that it was intentionally planned to be 5 seasons long so it has a nice arch as opposed to most shows which just keep going & inevitably have crazier & crazier plot twists & go down hill after a while

Yeah, hard to argue, spodi. Dominic West is the weakest part, though, and foregrounding his story is an unfortunate choice. Maybe a necessity? But the show would have been better as a true ensemble.

Absolutely! The Sopranos is sensational fun, very well done. But The Wire is really ABOUT things, real things in real life. So it’s not as glossy or melodramatically rewarding, it’s but ultimately “better” in that way Michael spoke of.

She Of The Big Brown Eyes has been on a Brit mysteries binge during the lockdown. It's mildly amusing how the theme to every third Brit show, mystery or comedy, is either a dire cover or really cheesy knockoff of some pop or rock record. Case in point: "New Tricks," whose theme shamelessly rips off the Wilburys' "End Of The Line."

The Sopranos never quite managed to stop romanticizing and falling in love with its subject. It showed the sociopathy and violence but also valorized and glamorized it. It was a tall task, sure, but to me that keeps it from greatness, no matter how well done it is.

@Hughie Considine assume you mean Henry Gibson was the head of the Illinois Nazis in The Blues Brothers. Was trying to recall Nazis in Animal House, only when Otter describes the Omegas that beat him as Hitler Youth. The Nazi march in The Blues Brothers is based on the 1978 Supreme Court ruling allowing the Nation Socialist Party of America to march in Skokie, home to a large Jewish population including many holocaust survivors.

@Dennis Diken I think you'd do well here, probably better in Omaha than Lincoln, but we could find a venue in Lincoln. I still know some of the bookers here, too. I'd love to see you at the Zoo Bar, but it's way too small. Do you remember where you played in Nebraska? I'm sorry I missed you when that happened.

@dk50b yes, I mixed up those two films. Didn't realize the march in Blues Bros was based on the notorious Skokie march, which ended up as a TV movie starring Danny Kaye in one of his later roles.

Except for that little baroque-pop number at the end (which I don't mind but not what I bought it for), I love that whole All Over The Place record. Especially Dover Beach, which is kinda Crazy Horse lite.

@Hughie Considine I remember the ads for that Danny Kaye TV movie. For some reason it ran a lot on WGN, if I recall correctly. I've never actually watched the show. But everytime I see the word "Skokie" I picture an angry Danny Kaye in a crowd.

The “Mother Night” movie is excellent. Definitely worth checking out. But: yes it’s unsparingly faithful to the desolate darkness of Vonnegut’s original. So: maybe best to watch when one is in a generally good mood, like not already suicidal...
Also: for all you Les Paul lacquer fanatics, that’s the same stuff he used many coats of on the wooden “diffusing panels” he built for the home studio in Mahwah. He loved that stuff.
