Beats mismatched. New mystic moods. The International Style. Pressed and dressed. Queasy listening. New ways to fail. More is more. Backroom room tones.

  4:09am Marc15:

You are very welcome, Jesse
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10am mariano:

You were asking about the Regrelh song, Jesse? I bet Sylvia would know about it (good morning, Sylvia). The language is Occitan, from an area in southern France called Languedoc, and it's an album of medieval troubadour songs ("Songs of the Troubadours: The Sweetness of a New Sound").

Oh yeah, happy Mardi Gras, speaking of France and Shrovetide!
Avatar 4:10am Sylvia (France-NYC):

oh, they're sold out and don't come as digital on bandcamp :/
Avatar 4:11am Malcolm:

yeah those dj sundae tapes sell out so quickly... annoying
Avatar 4:13am Jesse Dorris:

Ah Mariano thank you! I figured the troubadour aspect but didn't know it was Occitan, so beautiful!
Avatar 4:13am Sylvia (France-NYC):

@mariano good morning, I know about Occitan but can't speak no understand it

it's Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) today, the day to have some greasy donuts!
Avatar 4:13am Jesse Dorris:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25am mariano:

I usually stay away from pastries and starchy things in general so my clothes will fit, but on Sunday I had an apple turnover from my local coffee shop that I've caught myself fantasizing about a few times, it was so exceptional.
Avatar 4:29am Jesse Dorris:

These tracks will burn off the calories!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35am fred:

@mariano: Mardi Gras must feel very weird this year

Morning Pasc.
Avatar 4:37am Jesse Dorris:

Morning Pasc! Burning through the haze, if only briefly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38am Matthew_London:

My waistline IS a donut
Avatar 4:42am Lisboner Pasc:

Pancakes the food of Shrove Tuesday, at least for my (Belgian/English) family — so you do that in the States? If you want a good crepe recipe I will happily send, it’s foolproof! Dusting with just sugar and lemon, no filling can improve on that!
Avatar 4:44am Malcolm:

please do share the recipe pasc! this may be heresy but I'm partial to a bit of nutella on mine
Avatar 4:44am Malcolm:

morning fionnland!
Avatar 4:45am Malcolm:

maybe even some biscoff spread if i'm feeling adventurous
Avatar 4:46am Jesse Dorris:

I am so hungry now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48am mariano:

fred: Yeah, kind of a downer, but the whole year has been like that. I'm glad it's been so cold and rainy though, makes it easier.

Lisboner: in New Orleans/south Louisiana, it's king cake. But Carnival/Mardi Gras isn't observed in other parts of the States, except for some parts of the Gulf coast in Mississippi and Alabama that were also French colonies. Here's some king cake porn: www.neworleans.com...
Avatar 4:49am Lisboner Pasc:

I think the nun Tante Jaqueline who used to come to ours and munch on pancakes might just have forgiven you Malcolm. Will share before Clay flies in today! Getting your appetite up first
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:49am fionnland:

Loving this track, Jesse. I'm not doing too bad! Slept terribly but this set and coffee is getting me through the first hour of work!
Avatar 4:51am Lisboner Pasc:

Yowza Mariano, that king cake rules! Bolo Rei in Portugal perhaps similar but that’s more of a Christmas thing.

Also forcing my mother in law (Slovakian) to start making her Christmas pudding in August, and to keep feeding it brandy. Ah, tradition!
Avatar 4:54am Jesse Dorris:

Avatar 5:12am Jesse Dorris:

It does what it's doing pretty well!
Avatar 5:14am Lisboner Pasc:

OK pals, here we go, the pancake recipe my mum (but really my grandma) sent down to generations of hungry kids in my family:

*Bonne Maman’s Depiesse’s Classic Crepes* — Thin, easy to make, delicious!

OK before we get started, we never measured anything, just ‘felt’ for the right measurements. It’s quicker but not exactly precise. So let’s do this for two people eating let’s say 3-4 pancakes each:

Ingredients
*Healthy mound of flour (200g?), enough flour to hide a child’s lego set, let’s say
* 2 eggs
* Milk (alternatives like almond or oat milk work fine, if not better)
* Water

1. Get a big mixing bowl, dump yer flour in (no need to sieve), then make a ‘crater’ in the middle
2. Crack the eggs so they land happily in the heart of the crater, or the little home you’ve scooped out for them in the flour
3. Using a fork, mix until more or less similar ‘dumpy’ consistency, doesn’t need to be perfect
4. Now to slowly add the milk until you reach a runny consistency. I prefer to add a decent amount of water also to achieve thinner crepes (this ain’t Dutch waffles, neither is it American pancakes. We’re aiming to light, thin and a big diameter, people!) My mum used a machine whisk, but it’s not necessary and you get an arm workout here for free. If you have a (manual) whisk, switch to this, but again it’s not necessary and the fork will serve you tremendously.
5. The fun part. Heat up two frying pans (always more fun with two). Get them ‘as hot as you dare’ and then slightly lower the heat while adding butter. Don’t muck about with oil, we want thick butter here. Get the surface of the pan all oozed up and ready for:
6. The first pancake. This is always unsatisfying and clumpy; the second, however, is a delight. Flip to your heart’s content. Expect perhaps a bit of smoke. Show off to everyone your beautiful wrist motion and pancake catching. You are the star.

As for toppings, Malcolm is quite right in offering Nutella as an alternative to what I consider the unbeatable plain sugar + lemon juice (from a lemon, not a bottle! C’est fou, ça!). You can even make savoury pancakes. You may roll them from one side to the other, or make fancy serviette shapes in cones, or just gobble down in its pure infinite circular form.

Hope you enjoy Shrove Tuesday everyone! Greetings from Arles, what a relentless set from Jesse, genial!
Avatar 5:16am Malcolm:

amazing, thanks so much pasc! what a charismatic recipe, can't wait to try it :D
Avatar 5:17am Jesse Dorris:

This is so great, Pasc, thanks for sharing!
Avatar 5:17am Lisboner Pasc:

@Malcolm, I reckon it's pretty similar to others but was taught with firm Belgian effusiveness, let me know how you get on! Get flipping!
