	♥ 10:06pm Matt from New Orleans: They have guys called Flambeauxs down here during Mardi Gras parades Chresti. They’re typically African-American and they carry a propane tank on their backs and have a tube that runs from the tank into a metal apparatus that has a series of open flames almost like a menorah. The more daring will flip the apparatus around or over their heads. People will throw coins and bills towards them into the street. The guys then try to collect the money with one hand. The whole thing seems really f-ed up to me but it’s far from the only Mardi Gras tradition I find problematic.

They’re typically African-American and they carry a propane tank on their backs and have a tube that runs from the tank into a metal apparatus that has a series of open flames almost like a menorah. The more daring will flip the apparatus around or over their heads. People will throw coins and bills towards them into the street. The guys then try to collect the money with one hand. The whole thing seems really f-ed up to me but it’s far from the only Mardi Gras tradition I find problematic.
