Earl Palmer's bio (also entitled "Backbeat") was a good read. I liked the pride he took in being able to read the charts for movie and TV scores.

ah, the best bass line ever (Am I The Same Girl/Soulful Strut).....
Avatar 2:48pm
Nutley Sam:

@Dennis -- conflicting info out there on who played drums on the Odd Couple (TV) theme. Sounds like Earl to me rather than Hal. Can you confirm or deny? The incidental music is trickier!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm
Cal Zone!:

Hi DD and the rest! Thanks for playing Rochester NY's, and Brighton HS alum Steve Alaimo earlier! He's the ginchiest!
Avatar 2:50pm
Nutley Sam:

@Cal how did I not know Steve Alaimo was a BHS alum? I wonder if used the same gym locker as him...

I heard Run Mascara Run for the first time last week and loved it. So glad to hear it again.

Es poseeblay Nutley SE! I posted some yearbook photos a few weeks ago...I'll try to dig em up for a repost!
  2:52pm
:jenn:

Sounds like David Geddes got his hook for “Run Joey Run” from “Run Mascara.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm
Dennis Diken:

@myron - oh yeah, we were trying to get to the "bottom" of best bass lines a while back, right. @NutleySam - my money is on Earl for the Odd Couple Theme, can't be 100% sure tho. yeah Woo, I was reminded of "RMR" on Glynis' show the other day. @Cal Zone - Steve A made his mark in Florida later, yes? @:jenn - veddy interesting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm
Woo:

Fever. With more strings.

Gerry from Miami:

Cal Zone! Steve Alaimo was a sensation here in the Miami area starting shen I was in junior high, pre-Beatles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm
Cal Zone!:

Yes, Steve graduated HS and ended up going to college in Florida where his career took off, but previously he played with a few different groups in Rochester area.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm
Dennis Diken:

totally into my Alaimo. Mikey Shelley is too, I say! did he (Alaimo, that is) work on those Blowfly rekkids as well?
  3:03pm
Gerry from Miami:

"Every Day I Have to Cry Some," very big hit on WQAM, 560
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm
Cal Zone!:

He played in his cousin Jim Alaimo's band and recorded with them too. As well as a couple of other HS dopes who would later make small marks in the industry!
And yes, the same Steve Alaimo who would later start TK Records!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm
Listener Baby:

Grady Tate
Among his most widely heard vocal performances are the songs "I Got Six", "Naughty Number Nine", and "Fireworks" from Multiplication Rock and America Rock, both part of the Schoolhouse Rock series
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm
Dennis Diken:

@Listener Baby - right! great drummer, he was, too
  3:10pm
Sissophonic Cheryl:

Todd is driving, enjoying the show! I'm enjoying at home!
  3:10pm
DA The DJ:

Hi everyone!
  3:13pm
ChrisB.:

I saw Otis Blackwell in a little bar in Red Bank in the late 70’s with a local pickup band. And yes, he did sound just like Elvis
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
Cal Zone!:

Jim Alaimo would later join the Mojo Men and wrote a few songs, and BHS chum Brad Shapiro would later drum for various combos, wrote, and produced a few! All of these dorks were Brighton HS pals....and this same school would later spawn the Elwitt Brothers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
Gaylord Fields:

I'm a huge Steve Alaimo fan too! His ska LP is especially great! The Blues Busters were his backing vocalists, to give it real Jamaican cred.
  3:20pm
Nutley Sam:

Del's version of Handy Man is Gallant to James Taylor's Goofus
  3:22pm
Nutley Sam:

@Cal the Degrads recorded with an engineer from the Mojo Men whose name escapes me. I can picture him.
  3:22pm
ChrisB.:

Dave Edmunds sounds like Johnny Kidd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm
Dennis Diken:

@Sissophonic - lotsa love and hey to Todd-O! DA! TAST! @ChrisB, right on. @Gaylord - gotta dig that one out! @Nutley Sam - good point!

ChrisB.:

See?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
myron feld:

@Nutley Sam, the Gallant & Goofus reference is the Highlights of my day.
  3:26pm
Gerry from Miami:

Johnny Kidd and Dave Edmunds sound very similar. Everybody influencing and imitating each other in those days. And remember the hundreds of Beatle-sound-alike bands during the original British Invasion.
  3:28pm
Gerry from Miami:

Chris B and SmokinJ Looks like we all had the same tbought at once concerning Edmunds and Kidd
Avatar 3:30pm

@Dave in St Albans UK - thank you, sir! @Gerry from Miami - to be sure! hi Patti K!
  3:43pm

More often than not, a song I’m not familiar with that really grabs me turns out tone The Searchers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
Dennis Diken:

@ChrisB - my admiration for The Searchers knows no bounds!
  3:49pm
Mike Conroy:

Wish I had picked up that Cowsills cd when it was available!
  3:49pm
Gerry from Miami:

Had a friend in college('64-'69) who regaled me no end about the Searchers, the Who and the Kinks. No Beatles or Sfones for him! He read the NME religiously and followed the English scene as,if his life depended on it. Have to admit, his enthusiasms rubbed off on me. All his fave bands are in my all-time pantheon(along with those pesky Beatles and Stones as well, of course!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm
