Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Hi diciassette, Andrew, Henry and doctorjazz!!

There's going to be an Assassins 30th anniversary streamcast. givebutter.com...
Avatar 7:20pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

That's a mindfuck cause it means my first boyfriend and my oldest cousin who was like a sister to me growing up- who were born the year Assassins premiered- are turning 30. Which means in a few years I will turn 30
Avatar 7:29pm
Andrew Hollywood:

It's a big thing, turning 30
Avatar 7:30pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

I'm generally ok with the idea, but people in their 30s constantly complain about how old they are, so that scares me
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:33pm
diciassette:

I didn't realize how unmistakable Billy Porter's voice was
Avatar 7:34pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

Billy Porter is great. He is one of just six Broadway stars I have met at the stagedoor (the others being his Kinky Boots co-star Stark Sands, Zachary Levi and Krysta Rodriguez from First Date, and Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad from The Book of Mormon)
Avatar 7:35pm
Andrew Hollywood:

I'm 37 and not about to hand out any inspirational calendar advice, but, ya know. IT'S ONLY 30!

I've been wondering for a while if I'll peak at 40, but now I think that yardstick can be moved back a few more years.
Avatar 7:35pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

He is also the only Broadway star with his own Mick Ronson song (I know "Silly Willy Billy Porter" isn't about him, but I like to pretend it is)
Avatar 7:35pm
Andrew Hollywood:

don't be afraid of time :)
Avatar 7:36pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

I plan to peak in my 40s like all my favorite musical theatre songwriters
Avatar 7:38pm
Andrew Hollywood:

That sounds good. One of my voice teachers said that a good singer will likely peak in their 40s. :)
Avatar 7:39pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

Yes! I majored in vocal music in high school and I remember our 24-year-old teacher told us her voice hadn't fully matured yet. We thought she was old and didn't believe her...
Avatar 7:43pm
Andrew Hollywood:

Did you go on to study music in college?
🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
WR:

that is the same year I moved to NYC. Obviously we traveled in different circles.
Avatar 7:44pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Andrew: I majored in television and radio, but I took a lot of music classes

Kiss of the Spider Woman!
Avatar 8:50pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Lizzie: Aw thanks :D
Avatar 8:52pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Henry: The Carol Channing was a live broadcast from 1941 on New York's WOR uploaded to YouTube by YouTube user jonthesYT, who has apparently written a musical about Blitzstein called Blitzstein Strikes Back, which I would watch the shit out of
Avatar 8:52pm

I've always found that "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" to be creepy, more so when sung by McMahon.
