Inmate Samuel Melville was killed during the police insurgency in retaking the complex. Composer Rzewski took this text from Melville’s letter of May 16, 1971. Yeah, this is a good version, not heard before. This song had a hold on me for a while when it came out. For a high school art project I made several drawings on a large sheet...sort of a graphic/storyboard version of the song.
