In 1996, during the big blizzard, which dropped something like 26 inches of snow, there were four DJs stuck at the station for the weekend. We couldn't go anywhere, and no one could get to us. Driving was forbidden for a couple of days. We took turns doing shows, and I remember being free to play long tracks of 30 and 40 minutes and longer. It was great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28am

(I just noticed the golden O photo, which I greatly admire.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37am
Jeffrey Davison:

@TheoC: it was memorable, that's for sure. I drove to FMU mid-Friday afternoon, trying to be ahead of the storm, and just made it there, barely. The snow was coming down fast and furious.
@clarke: I don't know it...will check...thanks!
  6:39am
clarke:

lucky you brought sustenance!!
  6:42am
clarke:

as my dad used to say: you can't eat records!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48am
Jeffrey Davison:

@clarke: Correct. I have verified that. I knew there was a chance that I'd be stuck at the station, (at that time in East Orange), and brought extra food, but I didn't figure I'd be there the whole weekend. One silver lining: I was working for these knuckleheads in Queens, and they asked the employees to come in and shovel their sidewalk. As I said, it was illegal to drive a non-emergency vehicle across Manhattan that weekend, so I got out of that one.
@12539: that's a photo of the window at a club in Williamsburg called Muchmore's, which is no longer in business.

@Ted: yes, we were at Upsala College at the time. We moved to JC in 1998. My memory isn't good, but I believe that a lot of the campus buildings were demolished and residential buildings were going to be built there. I just checked online and it appears that the property was divided in half, and only one half contains new housing. The other half may still be abandoned buildings. Read more here:

What an informative and well-written piece on the sad fate of Upsala College. Thanx Jeffrey. I like reading about, and sometimes visiting, abandoned places. Good pandemic time-wasting. For example, there’s an abandoned airfield in East Hanover, about a half-hour from my house. Overgrown runway, collapsed building. Amazing.

@tdk60 i think so!! i'm going back on monday to see them again- i might end up with more than one, but there is a particular one that i have in mind who came from a hoarder house with 39 OTHER CATS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19am
Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Dirk, Chris W, melinda and Doug in JC!
@Dirk: this entire show is unsolicited, if you will. Two minutes out of 3 hours to remind people that the virus is still a grave threat is not too much, I don't think, and I have not mentioned it much in the last couple of months, with the vaccine rolling out. I specifically tried, in my comments, to avoid prognosticating, but I do follow the developments on various sources. Every radio station is actually required to provide PSAs and such, and I have often chosen to speak about this issue. My comments are not always the most eloquent, but there ya go.

Diana in Hungary:

I appreciated your comments too, Jeffrey. Here in Hungary the situation is still rough. About a third of the country's population has received a vaccine, I think, but there's still a long way to go and a great restlessness to get back to normal life (with school, events, travel, etc.). The vaccines can help us get there sooner, given all the caveats and precautions.
Avatar 8:40am
Doug in JC:

@Ted in Montclair I don't know... a ghost plane sounds like a good choice right now
Avatar 8:40am
HyperDose:

@queems I had a similar situation. My darling son was actually my second choice (no one can ever know!). But turns out he's the one I needed to adopt. PetFinder said he was 2mo old, but he was actually there for almost a year. Apparently he had a "cold" which I could tell was an upper respiratory infection the second I picked him up. Took a while for him to kick the infection, but once he did he's been as happy and full of energy as any cat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44am
Jeffrey Davison:

@Diana: Thank you. As I said, I do check into this subject frequently, and have read a lot about covid, the vaccines etc, in addition to listening a lot to WNYC. There is a more relaxed attitude in NYC, for sure, and part of me welcomes that, certainly, after this terrible year. I do also know that we have also been hit hard following spikes in Europe, and I have serious concerns about this. I know people who live in Europe, and many in Canada, and the Canadian situation is certainly having a profound effect on my plans to move there anytime soon.

Good morning Jeffrey & all, been quietly diggin’ as the coffee slowly does its thing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47am

i think the more relaxed attitude in ny is because the guv and mayor were pummeled in the press. as soon as cuomo was accused of funny business restrictions started to ease and the age eligibility for the vaccine started dropping.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am
queems:

@hyperdose exactly!! i'm glad he is healthy and happy now! my cat only passed away 2 months ago, and i was planning on waiting a while to adopt another. but i'm going to adopt one anyway, it might as well be now

Still I appreciated for sure you took the time and patience to answer to Dirk and moderate,
thanks for freeing the space at the most and keeping goin on ( over reacting is one thing, but I personally appreciate that one can at least give a different point of view if it is a space for words, & for sure there must be much better ways to do it
constructively I mean and care for words )
Dirk"thedoorman" might stay on the doorstep if he was banned... maybe the comments he had where not at all about politics or vax or the catastrophy but on his desire of music ))) & his frustration about escaping in art and soundwaves then he might have been surprised getting back to reality and just over reacted.
I am sorry we globaly have to deal with so much tension in those days, and regarding myself under lockdown ( I read a lot and doesn't feel legitimate to bring here my opinion ) but the music and the mood & discoveries on wfmu helps me get thru in a kind of way!
Don't know, don't want to bother here so I go on listening

I pledged also for that, thanks again keep on freeing art
Take care there
