Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
fan of Pavone's music, not the artist (personal encounter. She used to send emails to me about her performances [I met her in person a few times], and I proposed to many musicians that we play impromptu w/ each musician on a different block corner in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and I got an email back, saying, "don't email me". The Taliban! boys {former WFMUers }and others showed up.
Ngh anything inparticular you break you fast with?

Abbott was typically cruel to C’stella in that episode at the sporting goods store. He told Lou to look around and said “if you see anything you like, let me know and...I won’t buy it for you”
A member of the Bush Tetras and I are enjoying dinner together at my place and we are enjoying this set immensely. ALthough, it is not what we expected tonight...

Hey Gaylord, let’s plan for that A&C TV show fest at Monty Hall for a yet-to-be-determined date soon. At least we’ll have it in place for when we can pull the plug!
Dj Lorraine: no supermarkets around here, and I'm a pedestrian, so, only local restaurants (overpriced), or fastfood, which I can't stand (wish I had a kitchen). Just ordered Thai basil fried rice. Off to go pick it up!
hiya Pauly from Clifton!
hanging in there, trying to get stuff done -- the music right now is so perfect, inspiring and kinda soothing -- how is everything with you?

I went to the cat orphanage and tossed nip into the cage. I gave nip treats to the neighborhood cats. Bringing out more hits soon.
There is a deaf person that works the drive up window at Jimmy John's in Anacortes. She has trouble with words that rhyme, like 'cheese/mayonnaise' or 'bread/avocado'. I have a war on mayonnaise and I like avocado, that's why I hate what Jimmy John's calls avacado.
I just noticed that I've talked to myself out loud, when picking up my food. The last year it's happened more then often. I believe lack of social contact leads to such. (Unless, I'm talking to myself solving a problem).
i started talking to myself after spending a lot of time with only dogs as company
...and i've always sung, hummed and whistled; but i find i hum a lot more when i go through a long phase of listening to lots of songs sung in languages i don't understand
My parents had the Skeeter Davis Singing in the Summer Sun album when I was growing up. It was one of like three albums they had ..it felt like. So it played constantly . These songs are etched into my brain . The recorded has a dreamy quality . It's not something I no longer like, I still love it . Chet Atkins produced it ...so it's sort of in the new Nashville sound thing but it's clearly not country. But I guess the new Nashville sound was all about crossover
A lot of people decry the Chet Atkins produced stuff ....I really like it ....and then again I liked the Outlaw, getting by to the roots of country ,moment too
i do both. i have a few "traditional" japanese songs in my sleep playlists and wake up with melodies in my head. i do know what the songs are about, roughly; but don't know the words.
...and i hum when i have musical ideas.
Just tuned in a few minutes ago, ca. start of Morricone, and am ducking out to check on things in the garden, but have phone, will listen. This is a very lovely current set, @Gaylord.
In the same was I like I liked punk or glam .like NY Dolls music and at the same time I liked a lot of the overly produced or overly indulgent rock they were rebelling against
Speaking of food... I made bread for the first time this evening. I've been trying to learn new things during COVID as a way to make the best of a crummy situation.
@WLSClark: Maybe you should try washing your hands! har har. I'm totally intimidated by baking, which is why I'm trying to not exactly master it, but it least kinda get it.
Thank you again, Mr. Fields! Great way to end tonight.
