Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
Good Evening Gaylord and gathered fine folks. Have to work a shift right now for my #wfh gig - so not much chatting, but plenty of listening. This is a grand start so far!
Hi, winston legthigh, DjLorraine, headcleaner, steveo, Gordon FM, chresti, Carmichael, Mod Mokka Matti, Chop Scott, coelacanth∅, Julie P., Carmichael, Revolution Rabbit Nov63, greg g, listener 126464, and Ken From Hyde Park! Welcome, one and all!
Grandiose Greetings & Sunday Salutations Sir Gaylord & all Fields & Streamers !!! Hi JOOOOOOLLLZZZ ! Coel ! chop scott ! gordon! winston! Rev Rabbit ! Hope everyone is well and happyeeeyeye !
Coel, There was this kid in the 7th grade who was way ahead on the drug thing. One day in math class he told me he dropped acid on the weekend and saw giant tinker toys spinning around.
It's not a very conversant show for me; too much to concentrate on as I program these sets on the fly. Thanks for understanding. I appreciate everyone for being here.
Funny how "My Coloring Book" is associated with Barbra Streisand, but actually this version was a Top 30 Billboard hit for Sandy Stewart in '62 or '63. My mom and sisters were all over those early Streisand albums. I know them by heart. But Ms Stewart, a successful artist in her own right, never reached the stratospheric heights of "La Barbra."
Gaylord, I always loved doing sets that way. Getting in the "zone" and letting the music flow. It's one of my favorite things about doing live radio. By contrast live tv is tightly scripted and the biggest rush is wondering if something will go wrong. Still a lot of fun, mind you, but not the same as live free form radio!
@Winston: Hello! And yes, exactly. Lately I've started watching "The Odd Couple" from the first episode onward. Some of it is cringe-worthy (so sexist!) but a lot of it is wonderful. The acting and writing still holds up.
i really like i stay you stay.
i'm assuming current, by the production; yet, not ruined by autotune in a "genre" that seems to usually be.
...excellent
winston: Astronomically / Sidereally the ☽Moon may appear in the sky near the constellation ♍︎Virgo about now - but by the Tropical / Seasonal zodiac common to Astrologers She is in ♎︎Libra : planetwatcher.com
- & will be in ♏︎Scorpio by the time she is Full in a few days - the Full ☽Moon being always ☍Opposite the ⦿Sun, now in ♉︎Taurus, a sign Ruled by lovely aesthetic ♀︎Venus as is ♎︎Libra... &tc. ...
Hey, Gaylord! Breaking my reverie to chime in on tonight’s wonderful selections. It is fitting that on the app the favourite button is in the shape of a heart. So many beautiful moments so far!
This version of Come Together is like Alain Goraguer did the score for the Sgt. Peppers movie. Or something. I dig it. There was a time when I would have hated such a thing, but I'm glad I changed.
lost a great friend recently...Les
McKeown...the lead singer of the Bay City Rollers....a band that got caterogized.... yet were more rock n roll than alot of bands in that era....."Yesterdays Hero"
Groovy, gaylord! Their first single got played on bandstand Rate a Record and I wrote to them and they sent me a T-Shirt and press kit! Personal letter saying how thrilled with the girl rating them good! haha
Gotta run, Gaylord and friends. Enjoyed this far-reaching, eclectic show. And my ears are smiling when they hear those most lovely riffs on electric 12-strings by the Spongetones.
Scott, I can totally understand that too—sorry things are rough. Lucky that we’ve got FMU to lean on in either case! Actually, I think we might have passed each other on Wake and Bake before, our time zones have just never lined up until now!
Phoebe, thanks, I remember you too. We are so fortunate in Australia, Covid wise, I can see my parents anytime with hugs & kisses allowed. But there are other issues as they age, as is our lot.✌😎🌻

Thank you, Gaylord! Great turns in Part 2!

This time of year, all I can think is, "Oscar, Oscar, Oscar." But not because I care about an awards ceremony.
