	♥ 9:30am Threemoons: Had trouble getting out of bed this AM--got to bed too late last night. Is it just my local pharmacy or are the lines for scrip pickups INSANE everywhere? I mean, I waited almost 90 minutes at my local Rite-Aid. Due to the crowds, it was hard to keep 6' apart, more like 3. Everyone was masked up, but still. At least I got a few German lessons in on Duolingo and made a few calls. Still, though. Then I hit the supermarket on the way home--almost empty due to Ramadan--and of COURSE when I'm checking out this kid goes to pay with his phone and..his Venmo is $1.19 short. He's holding up the line, and has no cash, so I pulled out a $5 and paid his balance just to get out of there. Have a nice whole chicken to deal with tonight; made cheapo minute steak for dins last night. Need to do a more major shopping this weekend but I literally had no milk or bread in the house. So, tired today. At least I have my iced coffee.

	♥ 9:32am Threemoons: Also the cold snap made my bed extra-cozy this AM. Mom is moving, and she USED to sleep 12-14 people every Thanksgiving at her place so I had my pick of blankets to take home. Got my favorite comforter from the house--an ancient, foofy eiderdown affair--and it makes getting out of bed SO hard in the AM. It's like sleeping inside a giant foofy cloud that supports all of you if you roll up in it.

	♥ 9:32am Handy Haversack: Those storms were pushing cold air in front of them. I was on the elevated A platform in Ozone Park around 1:30 yesterday afternoon in a T-shirt and jeans, and it was getting cooooold. When I got off the G in Greenpont over an hour later, the skies opened up. There was no line for tofu and tomatoes on the corner yesterday afternoon, Threemoons, but that's all I can testify to directly.

	♥ 9:46am Threemoons: @Handy if you don't have a tofu press (may be worth getting if you plan on eating more of it), don't forget that two plates, paper towels, and something heavy can do in a pinch. Firm tofu, if further pressed, is amazing in stir-fry or even dusted with corn starch and seasoning and oven-baked. The original Moosewood cookbook has an amazing recipe for oven-baked tofu cubes that is supposed to be kid-friendly but I like them also. Serve like tater tots with dip of choice.....

	♥ 9:49am Doug in JC: I've been experimenting with arrowroot instead of cornstarch. Freezing tofu can do really interesting things if you want a meaty texture.

	♥ 9:50am Handy Haversack: Threemoons, I had a heavy skillet and Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, tenth ed., pressing them on a baking sheet! One of the blocks is now in the freezer. We'll see how that goes! The others were sliced in different ways. One went in a green bean and tomato stir fry, the other coated in a soy, honey, and chili paste sauce and topped with fresh scallion and serrano. Doug, I'd love that!

I have an actual cooking brick that I salvaged from the old Smack Mellon building in Dumbo when they tore it down--DePew Brick Works!

	♥ 9:56am Threemoons: BTW, both purslane and goosefoot greens are in season now--very under-appreciated. Both are very good rinsed and raw. Last night's "holy crap it's 9:30 PM and I still need to make dinner" was a cheap cut of steak pan seared and cut up, seasoned with 5-pepper and allspice blend (hand ground), and shoved into a soft warm pita bread with a LOT of chopped raw purslane.

I mess around / fake my way through other languages a lot, and use a mix of GT and online dictionaries to get by (I prefer dead trees dictionaries, but good ones are hard to get a hold of actually)

In other words, what is called "goosefoot" in Central America is a variant of our purslane, not lamb's quarters (English "goosefoot")

	♥ 10:33am alanr: Purslane is one of those herbs that one can find foraging, if too many people did not have the same idea and take more than their fair share. I harvest young dandelion leaves on my morning walk in a park where they do not spray chem shit on the ground.
	10:34am headcleaner: It helps that "I wanna know" just happens to be a brilliantly architected song that essentially cancels out the deficits posed by the rest of the Foreigner catalog. BTW there's an awesome version of it on Samantha's premium from 2019 I believe

	♥ 10:39am Threemoons: @Melinda we didn't have enough light for borage on my Mom's old property, but we planted ONE small batch of Anise Hyssop (also delicious and very bee-friendly) and it self-seeded in perpetuity after that--at one point we were consistently getting a HUGE 8' across globe of it; the butterflies and bees loved it and when it seeded every single finch came for miles for treats....

The mackerel I get (super high in Omega3 & B12 and wild) was only $3 a pound! There are many fish markets in this neighborhood, both inside larger Chinese supermarkets and in fish stores on 8th avenue.
	♥ 10:56am Handy Haversack: Extra fun when the dog is allergic to chicken, Threemoons! Man, Mike W, I want to believe you, but his food issues are incredibly deeply ingrained. I have never, ever met a dog as food motivated. He can be super well behaved about it in his normal circumstances -- holding treats on his nose or paws, waiting to eat his meals until told. But loose food is just a massive, massive trigger for him. I don't know if he was starved as a puppy or what, but I think there's something going on there. It's a good point, Falley Down! 	♥ 9:30am Threemoons: Had trouble getting out of bed this AM--got to bed too late last night. Is it just my local pharmacy or are the lines for scrip pickups INSANE everywhere? I mean, I waited almost 90 minutes at my local Rite-Aid. Due to the crowds, it was hard to keep 6' apart, more like 3. Everyone was masked up, but still. At least I got a few German lessons in on Duolingo and made a few calls. Still, though. Then I hit the supermarket on the way home--almost empty due to Ramadan--and of COURSE when I'm checking out this kid goes to pay with his phone and..his Venmo is $1.19 short. He's holding up the line, and has no cash, so I pulled out a $5 and paid his balance just to get out of there. Have a nice whole chicken to deal with tonight; made cheapo minute steak for dins last night. Need to do a more major shopping this weekend but I literally had no milk or bread in the house. So, tired today. At least I have my iced coffee.

Got my favorite comforter from the house--an ancient, foofy eiderdown affair--and it makes getting out of bed SO hard in the AM. It's like sleeping inside a giant foofy cloud that supports all of you if you roll up in it.

I was on the elevated A platform in Ozone Park around 1:30 yesterday afternoon in a T-shirt and jeans, and it was getting cooooold. When I got off the G in Greenpont over an hour later, the skies opened up. There was no line for tofu and tomatoes on the corner yesterday afternoon, Threemoons, but that's all I can testify to directly.

	♥ 9:46am Threemoons: @Handy if you don't have a tofu press (may be worth getting if you plan on eating more of it), don't forget that two plates, paper towels, and something heavy can do in a pinch. Firm tofu, if further pressed, is amazing in stir-fry or even dusted with corn starch and seasoning and oven-baked. The original Moosewood cookbook has an amazing recipe for oven-baked tofu cubes that is supposed to be kid-friendly but I like them also. Serve like tater tots with dip of choice.....

	♥ 9:50am Handy Haversack: Threemoons, I had a heavy skillet and Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, tenth ed., pressing them on a baking sheet! One of the blocks is now in the freezer. We'll see how that goes! The others were sliced in different ways. One went in a green bean and tomato stir fry, the other coated in a soy, honey, and chili paste sauce and topped with fresh scallion and serrano. Doug, I'd love that!

Last night's "holy crap it's 9:30 PM and I still need to make dinner" was a cheap cut of steak pan seared and cut up, seasoned with 5-pepper and allspice blend (hand ground), and shoved into a soft warm pita bread with a LOT of chopped raw purslane.

The mackerel I get (super high in Omega3 & B12 and wild) was only $3 a pound! There are many fish markets in this neighborhood, both inside larger Chinese supermarkets and in fish stores on 8th avenue.

I have never, ever met a dog as food motivated. He can be super well behaved about it in his normal circumstances -- holding treats on his nose or paws, waiting to eat his meals until told.
