Yes so ♉︎Taurus follows the first sign of birth - head-first ♈︎Aries - & correlates to accumulating enuff Material to fundamentally flourish & survive in the Middle of Spring. It's the Throat region - the parts of the anatomy connecting the physical body & the senses to the brain. The Fixed Earth sign - Ruled by aesthetic ♀︎Venus - in many ways ♉︎Taurus correlates to definitive Forms...

Anybody got an idea of what musical "I Said No" is from? I assume musical since song writers Loesser and Styne mostly did musicals... Bronwyn?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:54pm
doctorjazz:

My Ella connection- When I first started seeing my wife, we had musical "issues"-she was big into musical theater, I was a jazzbo (and most anything BUT musical theater). We found common ground in the Ella-Louis records, which I now know every note of.
I eventually came to appreciate musical theater; she eventually learned to tolerate or shut out my music

Understand that Stork, the clean and easy lilt to her work may initially seem to lack substance and grit to us coming from rock then blues then jazz explorers.

I agree, doc. In the 70's perfection got a little grainy but she still had more than almost anyone. It's great to bond with your partner over music!

Check out these wonderful snaps of a 23-year-old Ella by Carl Van Vechten (from 1940). Just posted on the Vintage Everyday site: www.vintag.es...

I started or not quite "getting" Ella either, much preferred Sarah Vaughan and many others. But thus car listening sessions to Ella/Louis won me over (wife's driving, so you're stuck with me here after all). Have to say, listening to this in the car with my fam is choking me up.

Always think of clip of Ella on some talk show / panel thing with some eminent Classical Conductor there too - & she says 'course I'm not a Musician' - & the Conductor stops her & says don't make me fight you ! Beacause Musician is precisely what she was.

My Ella Fitzgerald story: a few years ago today, I went to the hospital to visit an older gent I'd worked with. He had fallen on his head, gone into seizures, and slipped into a coma. It was the first time I saw someone on a ventilator and, I hoped, the last. He'd been an Ella fan from way back, and often talked about his life through connection to her music. Remembering that it was her birthday, I pulled up WKCR on my phone, and played her for him for half an hour -- it was a live date from Germany or Sweden, I think. A few days later, he was gone. I don't know if he heard, but at least Ella, who had been a part of his life for so long, was there close to the end.

- interesting that Marilyn used her Glamour to boost Ella exactly where Glamour should not have been a concern.

Marilyn was cool as hell. Stuck up for Ella, getting her a job at the El Mocambo where few black performers had performed. She agreed to sit at the front table for a week if they booked her. The place was jammed every night.Ella was actually glad to get the boost from that gig so she never had to sing a small jazz club again.
