I was suspicious of the date on that image, being just a few years after the invention of the telephone. But it appears to be accurate. Also, Skype launched in 2003 and Facetime in 2010. They kind of got it!

The foot pedals! A three limbed operation.

Oh holy cow, congrats on the fifth, y'all! WFMU would be poorer without the sounds and artists you bring each week!

david w:

Thanks, james. You are very kind to say that.

I don't really understand what's happening on that postcard. The guy speaking into the "telephone," that correlates with the image of the screen how? The horn's pointed right at his head, which seems like it would have the same effect as a loudspeaker pointed directly at a microphone--just screeching feedback. The footpedal guy appears to be operating some type of cylinder--perhaps recording all this nonsense? The foot pedals are obviously a fuzz tone and a wah-wah pedal. It's certainly thought-provoking. And very, very accurate portrayal of the year 2000 as I remember it.

I agree too, and also: lots of long-cut full pieces instead of chopped up FCC sized ones. With occasional guest stars on the comment board.

Y'know what, I think I live sampled and looped Kid Lucky during a 6-hour show in 2000, as he walked by my setup at a C.O.M.A. benefit at ABC No-Rio, and started improv-ing his thing into my mic. Gosh, didn't know he was gone!

Yup, here it is. He's the star of "#2: Even As We Speak": lastever.org...

There's a kind of Dr. PO event coming up later this month, performance of THE WITNESS, as part of SONIC MATTER festival, with Claire Chase and Susie Ibarra, and Alex Peh, and community members (like me) . There's also "i am Sitting In A Room" coming up tomorrow.
