Yes, I am old & have learned over the years remakes are never better than the original. Books are MOST of the time better than the movie and by all means avoid remakes of remakes, A Star is Born... I am going to make a religious version ( the 4th iteration) called a "Star is Born Again Christian"

Think Jackson's Kong was a big long tribute to the original 1933 Kong. Seen that way - fine. DeLaurentis's 1976 one - perhaps not without merit whatsoever. I mean - I like goofy Japanese Kaiju flix... '33 original Kong is a MidCentury Fairy Tale - it's as good as anything there is. Often think how growing up in the 1970s we'd get stuff from other decades - the whole 20thCentury up to then.
