Dan and all the Fried. Out in the sun all day and feeling pretty Fried already -- and excited for TWO hours!

Also, Dan, I'm going to miss this show so much over the summer. Hope you're coming back in the fall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm ultradamno:

Dan! Fry Babies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm chresti:

Hi Dan and friers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm melinda:

hi everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, ultradamno, chesti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm chresti:

Hi Handy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm ultradamno:

Hiya Handy!
Avatar 6:03pm Dan Bodah:

@HH, UD, Chresti, melinda -- welcome Fryers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Webhamster Henry:

Yeah I'll miss you this summer. I'll have to sit in a corner and yodel or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Cabbage:

Hi All. Happy to make it tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Handy Haversack:

Now Kate's singing overtones and freaking the dog out.
  6:04pm Old Dave:

Sorry, you can't top John Legend on this one
Avatar 6:04pm Dan Bodah:

@WHH, make sure to record that! Fingers crossed, I'll be back in the fall in the same old spot. And I'm sure Vicki will take good care of you all over the summer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Webhamster Henry:

Vicki plays some throat twisting tunes as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm ultradamno:

I'm sure these People like people similar to me will do a good job, but I'm going to have to tell on them to Courtney about their choice of arrow placement twitter.com...
  6:04pm Stump Grinder:

Hello DJ Vocal Fry with Dan Bodah. At first I thought this Tino Bogner was a Roxy Music oddity (until I heard the juice harp anyway)
  6:05pm Old Dave:

Sorry, you can't top Josh Grobin on this one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm chresti:

I wonder if Tino's related to Ursula.

Dan, I hope so!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Handy Haversack:

Yes, at least it's Vicki taking the spot -- that's exciting. And Adrienne coming back right after! I have missed the Blind Tourist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm listener 126464:

Fryers, broilers.
Avatar 6:05pm Dan Bodah:

@stumpg, he has a very Ferrry-esque quaver, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm ultradamno:

Very excited to have Adriene and Blumin back!
  6:06pm Stump Grinder:

Really similar style quaverring haha.
Avatar 6:06pm Dan Bodah:

Yeah, very happy Adrienne is bringing the Blind Tourist back to the airwaves! And DB#2 will be holding down the WFMU DB club.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Handy Haversack:

What do people who don't listen to WFMU even gossip about? What a terrifying thought.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm chresti:

ultra, me too! Hope Blumin stays!
  6:07pm Carmichael:

Heya Dan and vocal shredders. Let’s get it on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm chresti:

Sonika is back too!
Avatar 6:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hey Hullo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm chresti:

l always wondered if DB#2 was Blumin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Webhamster Henry:

You've seen that iPhone ad with Konnakol, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm ultradamno:

I'm guessing I'm going to have go Blind Tourist live and catch up with the first half of Oh, My Soul on archives....hate to have to split the baby like this.

Speaking of Fibonaccis and archives, Stop Hitting Yourself in the Sheena's Jungle Room did a great hour long tribute to the band of that name recently that is really worth listening to wfmu.org...
Avatar 6:14pm Dan Bodah:

@WHH, yeah! Apparently there's a Coke ad with Nar Sur but it never aired in the States I don't think...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Webhamster Henry:

Donna is another DB. but she's not in the schedule unless Fabio gets sick again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Handy Haversack:

I don't think I ever heard Sonika's show, but excited for this new one!
  6:18pm Carmichael:

Bryce played some vocal repetition stuff recently. What a mind blower!
Avatar 6:19pm Dan Bodah:

Donna Blicharz is the prototype DB -- no model number, she is the original
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Handy Haversack:

Oh, yeah, Carmichael, that was great!

Did you see the commenter at the end of Radio Ravioli who's a DJ at the UC Davis station?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm chresti:

Sonika was on after Fabio, Handy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm HyperDose:

Taking a gander at the Coke Studio youtube channel, they really took a page out of the Red Bull Records playbook with showcasing lesser known artists. I can dig it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm chresti:

Haha prototype DB
Avatar 6:23pm northguineahills:

hallos, dan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm chresti:

Isn't Red Bull owned by Coke? Could be the same production company.
Avatar 6:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I'm the only real DB - y'all are just on the internets...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Handy Haversack:

HyperDose, I learned this weekend that Kate didn't know where Bayonne is. And I have never even been there. I think an educational trip might be in order at some point!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm ultradamno:

Red Bull is owned by Austrians, according to wiki
Avatar 6:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

WOOFF
Avatar 6:29pm Dan Bodah:

@HyperDose, yeah, it's probably akin to the Red Bull Music Academy. Weird how good their events were. Seeing Diamanda Galas play in the dark in a deserted Harlem church with the only light coming from little Red Bull logos was a *little* jarring tho...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm ultradamno:

Red Bull GmbH

Adriene and Courtney have also followed Fab, they could start a club
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Dan. After a spinal adjustment, eye drop dilation, pain-killer injection, and vocal-cord scraping, Mr Burns cheats death for another week. With luck, he'll make it to the fall to greet you again.
Avatar 6:36pm Dan Bodah:

@Ken, oof -- stay strong my friend! Rest up after that, sounds rough. Just do shooters of nuclear waste off Smithers' chest and you'll be fine.
  6:36pm Carmichael:

@Handy, no I didn’t see that. Will have to check the archive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm HyperDose:

@Dan I've seen quite a few bands shooting live shows in old churches in recent years. Perfect acoustics aside, all of the angles and high ceilings give you lots of options to play with lighting!

@Handy No judgements here. I'm someone who used to call the PATH the subway...yeah I don't do that anymore haha If you and K8 are into aimless wandering in hopes of stumbling upon a fantastic hole-in-the-wall restaurant or mom & pop shop, then Bayonne is the place for you!
  6:39pm Mike tp:

lover of yodeler.nice DAN.
  6:44pm Carmichael:

Loving the hoomei. Also, I scored a collection of castrato music that is just eerie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Richard S:

Hello!
Avatar 6:45pm Dan Bodah:

@Carmichael! A *collection*! Damnb, I'd love to hear that!
Avatar 6:45pm Dan Bodah:

@RichardS, hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm ultradamno:

I guess today was the last of Tom Dash's Down In The Basement (RNS stream) for awhile. Will miss that but can see juggling both shows is a handful.
Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Mennlinn Rebarts:

We'll miss you Dan!!
Thanks for all the great music! Hope to see you back in the fall.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Handy Haversack:

This music! It -- speaks to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Handy Haversack:

ultradamno, the Fun Time Objects Show last week was a total blast!
Avatar 6:56pm Dan Bodah:

@Mennlinn! Thanks. That's great -- not a lot of umngqokolo out there and I haven't heard of that woman before...I'll look it up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm ultradamno:

I bet. Those tapes are super fun time, unobjectionably! funtimeobjects.bandcamp.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm ultradamno:

...or objectively, for that matter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Handy Haversack:

I was so excited that I forgot to eat dinner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm Ken From Hyde Park:

This reminds me that Vortex of Chaos is not on the new schedule. It's my favorite archive to listen with headphones while on an airline flight.
Avatar 7:09pm Dan Bodah:

@HH, Starvation Radio in effect
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm ARB:

I flew to nyc just for that Diamanda in Harlem show, which was perfect except for the glowing redbull logo i agree.
Avatar 7:15pm Dan Bodah:

@ARB, I hope to see her again! That show was such a culmination of what she's been doing for decades.
  7:17pm headcleaner:

wasn't hip enough to catch wind of the Diamanda Galás show, even though it happened right in my own neighborhood... good to know there's some hope for that church, though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm ARB:

I was in heaven. She played here in Los Angeles a couple years later which was also majestic. Talk about getting your spine reset, go see Diamanda...
  7:18pm headcleaner:

@ARB: will do
  7:19pm headcleaner:

it's not that tiny actually
Avatar 7:29pm Dan Bodah:

Diamanda is still active and working on new material -- adaptations of "The Fever Hospital" by Georg Heym, connecting it with the nursing home deaths of Covid...www.forbes.com...

Viv Corringham improvises non-linguistic vocal accompaniment to sound in tthe world, her interactions captured as field recordings.
Avatar 7:31pm northguineahills:

Viv Corringham!
  7:35pm yippie:

im gotta find a new to place to get my yoik on this summer
Avatar 7:35pm TDK60:

Hi Dan. I got lost in some side hallway back there.
Avatar 7:36pm Dan Bodah:

@TDK, welcome back. I imagine it was compelling off there. @Yippie, Mother Earth will provide.
  7:45pm headcleaner:

"The history of other European nation-states is that of linguistic communities serving their trade needs. France created itself by destroying five cultures -- Breton, Occitan, Alsatian, Corsican, and Flemish. We are the only European nation which is the military creation of a non-homogeneous State. This makes France difficult to govern to this day. This explains our difficulty in reforming, our slowness" -- Michel Rocard
Avatar 7:45pm Dan Bodah:

I love this recording...you can hear the intensity of their voices bending the diaphragm of the mic!
Avatar 7:46pm Dan Bodah:

@headcleaner, arguably true of Germany and Italy as well, no?
  7:47pm headcleaner:

@Dan - yup and just about any modern nation state, as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm Richard S:

Before I forget - Thanks for making Mondays awesome, Dan! Hope to catch you soon!
Avatar 7:49pm Dan Bodah:

@headcleaner, interesting that I have an ancestor who was born in Schenectady in the 1670s to a Dutch family, then apparently captured by natives and brought to Quebec, where she was baptized Catholic in her late 20s. The baptismal record says she was born in "le pays des Flamans" -- the country of the Flemish! In Schenectady. So not Dutch, but Flemish. Some framework of ethnicity going on there I've never fully understood.
Avatar 7:50pm Dan Bodah:

@Richard S -- thanks so much! I'm going to miss doing this every Monday! Really hope to be back in September.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Richard S:

@headlcleaner - that probably explains why France is so "obsessed" with being French and nothing else. No "Algerian-French", no "Caribbean-French", no "Muslim French". It's FRENCH and ONLY French. They don't want cultural identities pulling them apart....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Webhamster Henry:

I run into Viv Corringham occasionally, as various Deep Listening events. There was supposed to be one last Saturday, but it was rain/colded out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm Webhamster Henry:

She was also in the Now Net Arts Zoom concerts I was in last year.
Avatar 7:52pm Dan Bodah:

@WHH, tell her I love her music. And tell her that I want her and Mandl to come on and perform when I'm back in the fall
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm chresti:

Dan, I hope so too! Maybe you can do a fill in or 2 between now and the fall!
  7:53pm headcleaner:

@Dan - yup it's recursive - even the now-erased ethnic communities in the U.S. had components and subcultures that have been even more deeply erased
Avatar 7:53pm Dan Bodah:

I'll have to find those Now Net concerts -- are they archived?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Handy Haversack:

Gonna miss you, Dan! Great, great show! Was cooking so could not chat, but this was a fantastic send-off. Come back!
Avatar 7:53pm TDK60:

Intriguing those humans and their voices, Dan. Will look for your return.!..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Webhamster Henry:

I'll check: Viv's in this one... nownetarts.org...
  7:54pm headcleaner:

@Richard - I hadn't thought of it that way but it sounds quite plausible, that theory
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Ike:

See you soon! (And remember, pls vote Rosemarie Montalbano for Brooklyn Surrogate Judge!)
  7:54pm headcleaner:

Thankfully, we now have Dan's program which thoroughly demolishes all linguistic boundaries and categories
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm HyperDose:

Thanks Dan, great show!
