Apparently, for decades, green tea was the American hot beverage. And then politics and the racialization thereof were used to get us off Japanese tea and onto black teas from India. The more you know!

	9:46am Handy Haversack: ChukAmok, from what I've gleaned: just plain ol' imperial competition. Japan was getting too big for its britches, and Murican dollars could no longer support the growing godless menace. So Indian and Sri Lankan teas were given favorable trade status and propaganda was leveled against Japanese teas and businesses. We had a war to get to, after all!
	9:48am Threemoons: @HandyH WOW that is fascinating! Please let us know when the title is released/which imprint to stalk. My Mom and I both love all kinds of teas (she had to lay off of any with caffeine due to afib but she will sometimes do a 50/50 caf/herb thing if she really needs to get something done).

	9:56am Threemoons: Also, HH, at least in Russian Jewish households, it was ALWAYS black tea only, in different grades/strengths (although growing up, I can clearly remember the big brain fuel in the AM was coffee--my Grandma had a 5-lb BIG can of Old Gold on top of the fridge and the household went through at least two of those a month).

Japan was getting too big for its britches, and Murican dollars could no longer support the growing godless menace. So Indian and Sri Lankan teas were given favorable trade status and propaganda was leveled against Japanese teas and businesses. We had a war to get to, after all!
