	12:07pm Frank In Queens: My father is my musical hero. It’s really because of him that i got into music at an early age and I probably got whatever talent I have from him. He played keyboards in a band in the 60s, and I grew up with music always playing in the house. I knew more about The Beatles at age 5 in 1982 then any 5 year old probably should.

He only played good drums when he'd had too much to drink when I was a kid, but after we'd all gone of to college, he started playing in local Syracuse jazz band again and did it for the rest of his life. His drums were still on his station wagon when he died. There was always music in the house--mostly jazz from the "classic" era (teens to fifties). Later, in his fifties, he became a fan of modern, almost-rock stuff.

	12:13pm kevlicki: I grew up with a hippy dad. My dad bailed on work to go to Woodstock, he was one of the folks that actually bought a ticket. He was recently telling me how he saw Zepplin at the Filmore Sast on their first Us tour. He’s taken me to se Dylan about a dozen times. I was an infant for my first concert. Huey Lewis at the Orange County Fairgrounds…8 y/o for Duran Duran at the Beacon Theater and the list goes on for pop concerts. My folks were understanding of the community that musical subcultures create so they did not discourage my engagement with the 90’s hardcore punk scene.
	♥ 12:15pm Squints: My pop wasn't a music head but was indulgent of me. He liked instrumentals. I heard a lot of Tijuana Brass and Booker T & The MGs growing up. That stuff makes me smile to this day. He really dug the pre-Broadway Roger Miller, and Johnny Cash.

	12:15pm gf2002: My Dad was a WW2 vet and I was born in the early 70's, and he wasn't a music fanatic but he liked good music of all eras and introduced me to a lot of what influenced me. Always supported me as a musician too, and I'm always grateful for that. Some of the early albums I remember were Glenn Miller (LOVED the Miller band), some Sun Records compilations, Sinatra on Reprise, Herb Alpert TJB (every house had those), he loved Get Back and other rocking Beatles tracks. Had an 8-track of Best Of The Beach Boys vol.2, the White Album, and a Count Basie tape, and War. Back in the 50's he'd go to the Wildwood clubs and see The Treniers rip up the joint, he saw Boots Randolph live walk down the bar playing his sax not spilling a drink, Bill Haley, etc. Lots more but I appreciate what he did and miss him every day. Glenn Miller's "Moonlight Serenade" was the song I picked for his memorial service.

Our band would practice in our basement. Dad would get home from work and hook up his guitar and just shred. Buddy Holly, Beach Boys, Byrds, Dylan, Eagles were his jams. He was cool with most music I played. Except Black Flag. That dude hates Black Flag. Happy Fathers Day!

	12:22pm Todd-o-phonic Todd: My father suffered through two of my earliest concerts with me. The first one was supposed to be West, Bruce and Laing in Asbury Park Convention Center. But Jack Bruce left the band before the gig and it became Leslie West's Wild West Show featuring Corky Laing and Mitch Ryder. In his autobiography, Mitch Ryder said that this tour was the worst time of his life (I think because of management). And then there was The Patti Smith Group in Central Park. I remember my Dad reading the newspaper during the encore. He was. good sport.
	12:23pm Baby: Baby. Music was the only thing my Dad and I had in common. We spent countless hours listening and talking about music. He taught me so much about how to listen to music. He had great taste, and a pretty open mind too. Other than that, he was a pretty below average Pop. Miss him though.

In the 70s when I was a wee tyke, he was (and still is) really into Zappa, Beefheart, Mahavishnu, and a bunch of other jazz and fusion stuff, though he always had his ear to the ground with music in general. First time I heard the Ramones, the Pistols, Sid's "My Way," the Tubes, and a few others was when he played them for me. I used to hang out in his room with him for hours as he played records and told me about the artists, what the songs were about, etc.

	12:26pm Scott from Denver: My dad passed away in 1980 when I was a HS freshman but he would've been 100 in November. He had a RCA Hi-Fi in our basement and he'd crank that up with Frank Sinatra on the turntable and have me dance with him. It was usually after he had a pitcher of beer at Pizza Hut.

The record was Al Hirt's version of Java. Once I heard it I would go mad dancing in the living room, jumping off the couch, shaking my butt, and he was laugh and dance with me. Still miss him so. He loved watching Hee Haw (probably for the girls), and would tell me to turn up the radio whenever "The Boys are Back in Town" by Thin Lizzy came on. When he passed, my mom gave me an envelope from him with dollars he'd been stuffing under their bed--the note saying I should use it for a new bass and amp. Such an awesome guy, he got it.

He always let my brother and me control the car radio and he didnt mind WABC or whatever AM gold station was hot at the time and loved the Beatles records and Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Mom was always singing Build me Up Buttercup or Candida when she washed dishes. She had boxes of shellac 78 rpm pop records from the 40s thru 50s . They also played Lou Monte , Dean Martin and Sinatra constantly in our Italian household!

He can record it all in his closet from samples, with a hint of guitar thrown on top. They're fine songs, if you want to listen to laptop music. I don't. I get the albums and admire the songs, but I don't really want to listen to those recordings of them A great project for someone would be to put together a band to play them "rock-ly".

Pepper" & "Tommy" before I did (didn't get into rock until 6th grade or so).....my sister & I later inherited those. He sorta liked the Beatles, maybe some other non-noisy stuff but never really made an effort to listen to or like the stuff I did later on: Elton, Zappa, Springsteen, & certainly not punk/new wave. He's pretty quick to dismiss any contemporary (i.e. anything after 1960) music so I can't really discuss this stuff w/him. Came to 1-2 gigs with my mom for bands I was in, but I think it was aways too loud for him, or something. He's impossible to change.

	♥ 12:40pm Cat: Pop grew up in South Carolina and used to hitchhike to Ocean Drive (“OD”, now part of North Myrtle Beach) to dance the shag to “beach music” (R&B) and sleep on the beach. He and Mom volunteered at the Carolina Beach Music Festival for years. As a young adult, I went to many dances together with my parents. (I can’t shag.) Going to see Pop tomorrow. He’s in rough shape these days, but still my hero and role model. We’ll surely play some beach music, including Sixty Minute Man.

	12:06pm Andres: I was listening to Fishbone on my boombox when my father came into the room and demanded that I "turn down that noise!". Also, there are some John Lennon records in his collection that nobody else in the family wants.
	12:06pm clarke: my dad took me to get my first real drum-set when i was a tween! this is sorta like having a death sentence, ha ha, getting your kid a drum-kit (it was my money and savings, but dad brought me).

One of my cousins drags me out to lunch every couple of weeks though, which is good. Went to Harbor in Kenner for the first time in over a year a month or so ago. I love how your table there ends up looking like a still life of Neptune's bounty. Regarding Ba Chi, it's actually on Maple, just up from Cooter Brown's. Luckily they deliver to the Marigny. Where are you again, in River Ridge? If so, much closer to you than to me.
	12:07pm Frank In Queens: My father is my musical hero. It’s really because of him that i got into music at an early age and I probably got whatever talent I have from him. He played keyboards in a band in the 60s, and I grew up with music always playing in the house. I knew more about The Beatles at age 5 in 1982 then any 5 year old probably should.

He only played good drums when he'd had too much to drink when I was a kid, but after we'd all gone of to college, he started playing in local Syracuse jazz band again and did it for the rest of his life. His drums were still on his station wagon when he died. There was always music in the house--mostly jazz from the "classic" era (teens to fifties). Later, in his fifties, he became a fan of modern, almost-rock stuff.

He was recently telling me how he saw Zepplin at the Filmore Sast on their first Us tour. He’s taken me to se Dylan about a dozen times. I was an infant for my first concert. Huey Lewis at the Orange County Fairgrounds…8 y/o for Duran Duran at the Beacon Theater and the list goes on for pop concerts. My folks were understanding of the community that musical subcultures create so they did not discourage my engagement with the 90’s hardcore punk scene.
	♥ 12:15pm Squints: My pop wasn't a music head but was indulgent of me. He liked instrumentals. I heard a lot of Tijuana Brass and Booker T & The MGs growing up. That stuff makes me smile to this day. He really dug the pre-Broadway Roger Miller, and Johnny Cash.

	12:15pm gf2002: My Dad was a WW2 vet and I was born in the early 70's, and he wasn't a music fanatic but he liked good music of all eras and introduced me to a lot of what influenced me. Always supported me as a musician too, and I'm always grateful for that. Some of the early albums I remember were Glenn Miller (LOVED the Miller band), some Sun Records compilations, Sinatra on Reprise, Herb Alpert TJB (every house had those), he loved Get Back and other rocking Beatles tracks. Had an 8-track of Best Of The Beach Boys vol.2, the White Album, and a Count Basie tape, and War. Back in the 50's he'd go to the Wildwood clubs and see The Treniers rip up the joint, he saw Boots Randolph live walk down the bar playing his sax not spilling a drink, Bill Haley, etc. Lots more but I appreciate what he did and miss him every day. Glenn Miller's "Moonlight Serenade" was the song I picked for his memorial service.

	12:18pm egould310: Mu dad is a good man and great father. One of the best guitarists I’ve ever heard. Taught me to play guitar. I bought a Used Ludwig drum set (champagne sparkle) in 10th grade. Our band would practice in our basement. Dad would get home from work and hook up his guitar and just shred. Buddy Holly, Beach Boys, Byrds, Dylan, Eagles were his jams. He was cool with most music I played. Except Black Flag. That dude hates Black Flag. Happy Fathers Day!

	12:22pm Todd-o-phonic Todd: My father suffered through two of my earliest concerts with me. The first one was supposed to be West, Bruce and Laing in Asbury Park Convention Center. But Jack Bruce left the band before the gig and it became Leslie West's Wild West Show featuring Corky Laing and Mitch Ryder. In his autobiography, Mitch Ryder said that this tour was the worst time of his life (I think because of management). And then there was The Patti Smith Group in Central Park. I remember my Dad reading the newspaper during the encore. He was. good sport.
	12:23pm Baby: Baby. Music was the only thing my Dad and I had in common. We spent countless hours listening and talking about music. He taught me so much about how to listen to music. He had great taste, and a pretty open mind too. Other than that, he was a pretty below average Pop. Miss him though.

	♥ 12:26pm mariano: With me, it was one of my uncles, who's only 8 years older, so he's more like a big brother. In the 70s when I was a wee tyke, he was (and still is) really into Zappa, Beefheart, Mahavishnu, and a bunch of other jazz and fusion stuff, though he always had his ear to the ground with music in general. First time I heard the Ramones, the Pistols, Sid's "My Way," the Tubes, and a few others was when he played them for me. I used to hang out in his room with him for hours as he played records and told me about the artists, what the songs were about, etc.

	12:26pm Scott from Denver: My dad passed away in 1980 when I was a HS freshman but he would've been 100 in November. He had a RCA Hi-Fi in our basement and he'd crank that up with Frank Sinatra on the turntable and have me dance with him. It was usually after he had a pitcher of beer at Pizza Hut.

The record was Al Hirt's version of Java. Once I heard it I would go mad dancing in the living room, jumping off the couch, shaking my butt, and he was laugh and dance with me. Still miss him so. He loved watching Hee Haw (probably for the girls), and would tell me to turn up the radio whenever "The Boys are Back in Town" by Thin Lizzy came on. When he passed, my mom gave me an envelope from him with dollars he'd been stuffing under their bed--the note saying I should use it for a new bass and amp. Such an awesome guy, he got it.

He always let my brother and me control the car radio and he didnt mind WABC or whatever AM gold station was hot at the time and loved the Beatles records and Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Mom was always singing Build me Up Buttercup or Candida when she washed dishes. She had boxes of shellac 78 rpm pop records from the 40s thru 50s . They also played Lou Monte , Dean Martin and Sinatra constantly in our Italian household!

	♥ 12:31pm McGroovey: Todd R still writes pop songs; he just doesn't record them with a pop-rock band anymore. He seems to love the laptop-EDM thing now. He can record it all in his closet from samples, with a hint of guitar thrown on top. They're fine songs, if you want to listen to laptop music. I don't. I get the albums and admire the songs, but I don't really want to listen to those recordings of them A great project for someone would be to put together a band to play them "rock-ly".
	12:31pm DG: My dad was into jazz (like Benny Goodman, Basie, Ella, etc.) & B'way shows (Company & Fiddler on the Roof were constantly playing in our house in the '60s/70s), although my parents actually bought "Sgt. Pepper" & "Tommy" before I did (didn't get into rock until 6th grade or so).....my sister & I later inherited those. He sorta liked the Beatles, maybe some other non-noisy stuff but never really made an effort to listen to or like the stuff I did later on: Elton, Zappa, Springsteen, & certainly not punk/new wave. He's pretty quick to dismiss any contemporary (i.e. anything after 1960) music so I can't really discuss this stuff w/him. Came to 1-2 gigs with my mom for bands I was in, but I think it was aways too loud for him, or something. He's impossible to change.

	♥ 12:40pm Cat: Pop grew up in South Carolina and used to hitchhike to Ocean Drive (“OD”, now part of North Myrtle Beach) to dance the shag to “beach music” (R&B) and sleep on the beach. He and Mom volunteered at the Carolina Beach Music Festival for years. As a young adult, I went to many dances together with my parents. (I can’t shag.) Going to see Pop tomorrow. He’s in rough shape these days, but still my hero and role model. We’ll surely play some beach music, including Sixty Minute Man.
