Know nothing about Lou Courtney, apart from the fact that he likes jackets that do up both ways.

and everyone else!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Funky16Corners:

@SquigY0 - Lou only worked on the 45, the rest of the LP was a bunch of others including the Allman Joys aka Gregg and Duane Allman's mid-60s band
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Funky16Corners:

@Candy-O - Have you heard 'I'm Going Home' by the Choir? A 100% steal of the Nashville Teens record
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
Brian in UK:

You would think that he would drop the Henry and change it to Tiny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
Candy-O'67:

I'm not sure if I have, Larry. I'll Youtube it to see!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
Funky16Corners:

I can't believe he didn't change his last name!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Funky16Corners:

@Candy-O - It's the flip of their it 'IT's Cold Outside'. The Chesterfield Kings covered it on their first album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
Candy-O'67:

Just listened! I hadn't heard it, I don't think. I'll have to check the Chesterfield Kings' version, too. Love them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
Funky16Corners:

I only knew the Choir song for years then someone told me to check out the Nashville Teens record and my mind was blown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
Discotech Underground:

So, was Lou related to Dean Courtney, who recorded for RCA and MGM?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Funky16Corners:

No, Lou's real name was Louis Pegues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Funky16Corners:

I have a killer Dean Courtney 45, though...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Discotech Underground:

I have the two RCA's but the MGM has eluded me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Funky16Corners:

Yipes! $500!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm
Discotech Underground:

Interestingly enough, my favorite of the two RCA's is the one that doesn't sell for as much, "We Got A Good Thing". The other one is OK but I like the cheaper one better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
Funky16Corners:

That's the one I have, Love it!
Avatar 3:50pm
northguineahills:

Ok, back from camping and playing music up bear New Paltz. Making sounds was so thereaputic and hanging out w/ old friends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm

It's a great one, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg!

Funky16Corners:

hey NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm
Funky16Corners:

@Kip - Those are the best kinds of records!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm
Funky16Corners:

I wish I knew who was playing on this album. The guitar and drums are especially good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
Funky16Corners:

This record is massive. Bootlegged as a 45 (no original 45 release) for the Northern Soul scene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm
Discotech Underground:

Yeah, Northern Soul DJ's don't like LP's much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm
Funky16Corners:

True that.
Avatar 4:09pm
Erica:

But Larry would make an exception if he wanted to though. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
Funky16Corners:

You know I would.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
Discotech Underground:

The Silhouettes LP on Goodway is a prime example...it came with a bonus 45 of the track "Not Me Baby" that was also on the LP. The 45 gets four figures by itself but the album barely gets a couple hundred...and it's the same exact cut!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
Funky16Corners:

I speak as someone with decades of experience and an intimate understanding of the species: Record collectors are WEIRD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
Funky16Corners:

Myself included, of course
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm
Funky16Corners:

The next one is the biggie...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
Funky16Corners:

As sampled by DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist...
Avatar 4:14pm

Hey hey Ellen! You're a felon!

Lovin' all the Lou Courtney! Didn't know about all this soul! Great stuff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
Brian in UK:

Lucretia will teach ya.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Funky16Corners:

@Candy-O - Another one of those guys that's pretty much only known by DJs and collectors, which is a shame
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
Candy-O'67:

I'm definitely gonna be on the lookout for Lou's stuff now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Brian in UK:

Lou did like making up dances.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Funky16Corners:

You can still find the Riverside 45s pretty cheaply, Some of the other stuff, like Hey Joyce and a few of the things you'll hear in this set are much ore expensive and hard to find,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
Funky16Corners:

@Brian - Dance craze 45s were the meat and potatoes of the 60s soul scene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
Funky16Corners:

James Brown made it a cottage industry!
Avatar 4:26pm
SquigY0:

Larry's had a whole show devoted to the dance crazes and it...is...bonkers how they're so much the same yet so different
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm
Funky16Corners:

I have to do another one of those!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
Funky16Corners:

This is another one of his 45s that I can't believe isn't much bigger amongst soul fans.
Avatar 4:27pm
SquigY0:

yes please!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm
Funky16Corners:

I could probably do entire shows devoted to songs that mention either the boogaloo or the shingaling!
Avatar 4:30pm
SquigY0:

haha

but what about the dingaling and the shambala?
Avatar 4:30pm
SquigY0:
