Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

The lobsters are preening and prancing, Bronwyn!

Bronwyn Bishop:

Hi Doug!! For a second I thought maybe you were a new listener named Doug from Maine lol. I hope the lobsters enjoy this obscure Sondheim oddity
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
Doug from Maine:

Wonderful on their own, seeing "Sondheim" and "oddity" in the same sentence enhances both.

Roberto:

I haven't seen any recent productions of The Producers, but I can't imagine it being anywhere need as good without Gene Wilder's involvement.
Avatar 7:30pm
Roberto:

Followed closely by Dick Shawn and Kenneth Mars.

Ahoy!

*Dr. Seuss books comes to life, and I run screaming from the room*
Avatar 7:41pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Roberto: Kenneth Mars is hilarious in that movie! He's also King Triton in the Little Mermaid
Avatar 7:46pm
Roberto:

I had never heard of The Producers before stumbling upon it (the original film) on TV as a teen. I remember thinking, this has got to be the greatest thing ever.

Sweet Corn Lizzie:

My parents took me to all kinds of adult musicals! I learned all the songs.
I wouldn't have been interested in Seussical - I didn't like Peanuts or other things that were for kids. I wanted to grow up and be cool!
Avatar 7:54pm
Roberto:

If you had told me in 1988, when I saw the original Hairspray movie, that it would someday be a hit musical, I would have said "WHAAAAAAAAAt?"
Avatar 7:55pm
Roberto:

Let me guess: Vampires in Love was the flop.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
diciassette:

I guess not even that ringer of a song could save it.

I used to see Wicked posters on Market Street back in the day! I just read that it opened in San Francisco.

Avatar 8:10pm

BTW, my swag just arrived! WTF is this vinyl doing in there lolz
Avatar 8:12pm
Roberto:

I must have unwittingly won it. Guess I'll keep it with the Pylon record I won about 10 years ago and have never played.
Avatar 8:17pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
WR:

Sounds like a Tim Curry understudy singing there.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
