Peke: what's the buzz!?!?!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
WR:

Right, and after I asked I realized that since I've moved to my computer I could look at the image more closely. I see masks as an ongoing part of life for a variety of reasons.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:18pm
WR:

hi hi Mx Baba Bee, we're requesting a bee theme program from Jan. (meaning, I second the suggestion).
Avatar 12:19pm
Peke:

@baba bee, l'm challenging Jan....
last weeks show was spider-themed. As a challenge l suggested to make an elephant-themed show.... and here we are

@baba
that's gonna be hard... l guess...

One thing about masks that they have mostly been worn in Asia to protect other people if you have a cold or other aerial transmission illnesses. An extension of proper cough / sneeze etiquette usually taught / observed in the west.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:40pm

Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:52pm

I did consider Guido Belcanto's Elefantino, but that's not really about an elephant, is it?
Avatar 12:55pm
Mr Fab:

Look at you Jan, makin' with all the pachyderm platters! The man is a genius, folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm

Avatar 12:57pm
Peke:

@baba, the less the better?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

(I know, fantasy is fantasy, but I get such a hoot out of imagining the reasoning that could lead to these fantastic moments!)
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
WR:

Those men's magazine covers are remarkable for the "articles" announced as well as the illustrations. Never heard of or seen any of them in all the thrifting I did in the 70s (the main time in my life that I did that).
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:59pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Mr Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

Like, which push-up bra is best for being attacked by elephants? I need a stylist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm
MHLee:

I think a lot of tribes wear some pretty decorative things.
Avatar 12:59pm
Mr Fab:

Baba: a glamorous photoshoot goes horribly wrong?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

WR: I can only imagine the turgid tales between the covers!
Avatar 1:00pm
Mr Fab:

the model's perfume smelled like mice and peanuts! Drove the elephants crazy!
Avatar 1:00pm
Peke:

my guess baba,
damsels in distress, or jungle girls in power...
whatever sells better, will be on the cover...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

Mr Fab: That's too realistic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Franco Twinkie:

Gusto - now we're getting someplace!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

Guts on a bloodied tusk! Is this what inspired Fleetwood Mac?
Avatar 1:03pm
Peke:

l bet, if the theme was gorrilas, we'd see the same covers, only the elephant would be replaced with King Kong
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

Jan! You're doing it again! The themes unfolding! Ripping! Shredding! Impaling!
Avatar 1:04pm
Peke:

heeey, jungle book !!!!
Avatar 1:05pm
Peke:

that had to be in there...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

Dang, Tarsan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm
Feldpausch:

'Tarsan' is very heroic and excited
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:06pm
WR:

How about "American Men Don't Satisfy Their Wives" for a realistic cover story... My guess is that the turgid tales hardly live up to the cover titles.

Back to the music, it is interesting what a range of music can come from human perception of the gait and call of elephants, outside the very successful baby elephant motif.

Bizarrely, Jan, the covers have gotten more garish and violent as the songs have gotten more into family entertainment realm.
Avatar 1:07pm
Peke:

and, how could l have forgotten king Crimsons elephant talk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

WR: spot on observations! ha ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm
chresti:

Ha WR!
Avatar 1:10pm

All the women's bright red blouses & bras must be setting off the beasts. Something to keep in mind when planning your next safari.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

I have some friends who live in the apartment complex that was once the film set for Tarzan movies. The lagoon is still there!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
Jan Turkenburg:

wow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

Mr Fab: you could write a style guide!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
MHLee:

how many people do you think read the men's magazine versus how many purchased it
Avatar 1:10pm
Mr Fab:

"Discipline" - best King Crimson album?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
Franco Twinkie:

Chresti and I are headed for the landfill. Thanks Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm

Discipline is a strong contender if you are a new wave fan.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Thanks for joining Franco and chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

see you later, Chrestikins and Franco Twinkie!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm
MHLee:

I haven't seen Dumbo in over a decade
Avatar 1:23pm
Mr Fab:

It's always worth checking out "Dumbo" for the hallucination scene alone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
MHLee:

Fantasia is also a brilliant foreshadowing of the psychedelic experience
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
WR:

Didn't know about the Burton / Disney Dumbo made recently. Guess I should watch the original before seeing the Burton version. Don't think I ever have watched the original all the way through.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

I wonder how many of these cover artists had the job of their dreams. Knowing so many artists who do commercial work, I'm curious about what other creations these folx made.

Meanwhile, the tunes are a parade of delights!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
MHLee:

Oh an unknown, I can share this to the unknown music community maybe
Avatar 1:40pm
Peke:

So, Chat...
Are we on agreement for next weeks theme...?
Bees.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
Jan Turkenburg:

@mhlee, yes I would be curious to hear
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
Jan Turkenburg:

@Peke, fine with me and I will try to avoid playing one of the three an a half milion versions of the flight of the bumble bee :-)
Avatar 1:43pm
Peke:

maybe it should be "birds & bees"... ;-)
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:48pm
Jan Turkenburg:

ALL songs are about the bird and the bees
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm
MHLee:

I assume that French song is from LA COMPIL DES PETITS MINOUS, VOLUME 1
Avatar 1:49pm
Peke:

Bees it is then.
I think the real challenge will be finding magazine covers with bees on ... :-)
Avatar 1:49pm

Which doesn't have a Discogs listig
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:52pm
Jan Turkenburg:

thanks MHLee, I'll check it out
@Peke, I think you're right about the magazine covers. I'll have to be creative there ;-)
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:52pm
WR:

there are the bee adjacent subjects of honey and hives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
MHLee:

@Jan the thing is the listing of the album is unknown artist so it doesn't help us any
Avatar 2:00pm
Mr Fab:

if you do play a version of "Flight Of the Bumblebees," there's always JJ PErrey again - he used actual recordings of bees, then messed with the tapes. Proto-sampling.
  2:00pm
chresti:

Listening on our way.,,
  2:01pm
chresti:

Thanks Jan!

thanks Mr Fab, I would porbably have overlooked that one.

Thank you Jan for a remarkable episode. The images and the music both very rich and strangely divergent exploration of human perception.
