Hey Jan, what's buzzin', cousin? (As the hep cats used to say). I've heard a lot of buzz about this morning's show!

Hi Mr Fab! :-)
Avatar 12:16pm
Mr Fab:

wiki sez: "Flight of the Bumblebee" is a version of the interlude homonymous by Russian composer Rimsky Korsakov, which used bees sounds. According to Perrey, he recorded a hive from Switzerland with a few miles of tape on his Nagra tape recorder. And when he returned to New York City, he used the recordings made of live bees. And he spent a total of 46 hours cutting and gluing tiny pieces of magnetic tape (1.03 centimeters long) to get the end result: "2 minutes of music." As at that time, only 4-track recorders existed..."

3 times wow!

Flight of the Bumble Bee was part of a otherwise forgotten and considered insignificant opera.

Interesting! The classical equivalent of the b-side that becomes the hit.

I heard Perrey speak once (at a night when Otis Fodder was DJing) and he said that he played his version for Salvador Dali, after explaining how it was made from "sampled" bee sound fx. Dali listened to it, jumped up and exclaimed, "Incredible!"

Jan Turkenburg:

I know quite a few flute-players in this orchestra. The double bass flute was being played by my teacher back then.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
Jan Turkenburg:

There are only a handfull of Flute orchestras like this across the world. Björk recorded with the Icelandic one.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Also there are only a handfull of double bass flutes across the world. They are made of PVC, because they would become too expensive otherwise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm

Hi duggies!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:30pm

Ton Bruynel was a Dutch composer of combined acoustic and electronic music. He wrote this piece for this orchestra.

Hey chresti! How have things been on the tennis courts in this heat?
Avatar 12:48pm
Mr Fab:

A double bass flute made of PVC, that’s fantastic. Sounds like something the Blue Man Group would use.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I wouldn't be surprised if they did :-)
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I played it once, it's very hard. You have to loosen your lips instead of tightening them. Really weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm

Hi Fab, hot. I'll find out tomorrow. Having a birthday holiday today.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Happy Birthday, chresti!!!!!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:54pm
Jan Turkenburg:

My friend Mirjam has a PVC bass flute (one size smaller, like a cello flute). We take/took it to the flute orientation lessons on elementary school, I used to assist her with pre-covid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm
chresti:

Why are Cannibal Stew and Cha cha heels on R&S stream?
Avatar 12:56pm
Mr Fab:

A birthday holiday? Right on! Tell Franco to spoil you rotten, and wait on you hand and foot today. Sheena commands it. And you do NOT want to displease her!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:56pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Then we make our own soprano pvc flutes with the kids. For safety reasons I drill the holes, but like the kids get an understanding of the basic principles.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:59pm
Jan Turkenburg:

You can see kids playing they're own pvc flutes here: www.youtube.com...

chresti, to be honest, I have no idea. Wasn't my idea.
I am happy to say that we have lots of new shows on the horizon. In the coming months i hope to really beef up the schedule.
