@wmfromdumont It was a tossup between Terry's and Hollies' versions. And given the sonic glitches just now, maybe we should have gone with Hollies!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am
Franco Twinkie:

Listening to these songs at this remove, I'm not sure if The Hollies put these romantic notions in my young head, or they were simply articulating feelings I could not yet name. Sadly, I have not moved far beyond this type of explication of the rough water between men and women

These guys had such and intrinsic grasp of what made a song go forward into the realm of surprise. And before you knew, it was over! Mr. Toads Wild Ride squeezed into a song.
Avatar 12:26pm

Franco, excellent point, totally agree.
For this band, it was all about the song and every element served that, rather than people taking star turns for attention.

It's like when I rode "It's a Small World" at Disneyland and sort-of-complained that it was just recycled from the World's Fair as the Pepsi Pavilion. Years later I found out it had been built for the World's Fair with the intention of installing it permanently at Disneyland.

Just like Freedomland was revealed years later to have been intentionally built as a place holder for Co-Op City. Or so the developer said.

@wmfromdumont - according to Nash here, they attempted Marrakesh: people.com...

Bob Brainen:

Yeah Joe, Nash got cred finally but his songs are really not much different than his Hollies songs. It's all an illusion.

Lots of Mono-ness today. Excellent!

I wish we had MONO for all the singles up to 67! There's a comp we need: Hollies In Mono.

There needs to be a Beatles Anthology type thing with The Hollies

It's a trick to make perfect art, but I think The Hollies pulled it. Thanks guys, you are kind and knowing teachers.

Hey everyone, Dave Sewelson and Music For a Free World is off this week. Enjoy the soothing sounds of the stream until 5pm (ET) when Gina Bacon takes over with Someday Matinee. Gina's guest today is Nashville crooner Jon Byrd.

Great show! Just finished listening for a second time. It really helped me to develop a proper appreciation for the Hollies. Some time back, when I was channel surfing, I saw the current lineup on one of the PBS pledge shows and didn’t watch (some times those shows are kind of depressing, seeing all of those people my age in the audience - ha!). Now I’m kicking myself for missing it.

Thank You Bob Brainen & Pete Tomlinson !
*Always* been on the Hollies love bus - but not always known that any specific other people were too !
This episode can serve as a Reference. Like your Brian Jones episode - such an organized exposition underscores the Greatness. (I would presume Andrew Sandoval has featured them @ some point? & Todd-o-phonic Todd had an interview episode with Bobby Elliot that should not be missed not too long ago...)
