15-yr-old me read about Los Lobos in Rolling Stone, and soon bought How Will the Wolf Survive at Wall to Wall Sound in the Quakerbridge Mall. Brought it home; it skipped on track 1, "Don't Worry Baby." Exchanged it; skipped again, same place. Felt embarrassed to exchange again so asked my friend's mom to bring it back. She kindly did. I gave up and got the cassette, and years later the CD. Anyway, have loved the band ever since.

@Joel: I think this is an alternate version, it's about 30 secs longer than what wound up on Between The Buttons. Also, mix might have been adjusted after the vocals were added.

Laying, setting & holding the Beat for the particular Rhythm Section that was the entire Rolling Stones was an incredible & important thing indeed.
& truthfully - what a Class Act. Who knew that everything - & all of us - would go on for decades ...& being the reserved & dignified one would end up making Charlie a role model & a pathfinder...

Sail on Mr. Watts!! Are you ever sorely missed... ⭐︎✩☆🙏🏻☆✩⭐︎

Also, Los Lobos: I've been writing them off as NPR music for obviously too long. Will be going back to excavate their catalog after this magnificent show.
Avatar 5:55pm
Joe B:

Their first Warner Bros. hit, 1960's "Cathy's Clown", which they wrote and composed themselves, sold eight million copies and became the duo's biggest-selling record and went to No. 1
Avatar 5:55pm
Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Mr C: I don't know about record sales but they toured with Beat groups and "Man With Money" was covered by at least 3 mod bands (The Who, The Eyes and A Wild Uncertainty). Of course most American acts were more revered overseas than here in that era and in many ways that still holds true today.

Other successful Warner Bros. singles followed in the United States, such as "So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad)" (1960, pop No. 7), "Walk Right Back" (1961, pop No. 7), "Crying in the Rain" (1962, pop No. 6), and "That's Old Fashioned" (1962, pop No. 9, their last top 10 hit). From 1960 to 1962, Cadence Records released Everly Brothers singles from the vaults, including "When Will I Be Loved" (pop No. 8), written and composed by Phil

Being Thee Greatest & Most Influential TwoPart Harmony Ever would be enuff for most acts.
But they also had this unfailing choice of great Material / Songs which makes them indispensable - & their Records all had Playing & Arrangements that made you sit up & notice.
...The emotional space they occupied & evoked is more challenging to write about somehow. But that is definitely part of them being indispensable...
