Jan Turkenburg:

Hi MHLee!
  10:03am
MHLee:

I turn 25 today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am
Jan Turkenburg:

Happy Birthday!
  10:05am
Listener Robert:

Is there a complementary picture of a "Saint Louis" dance contest taking place in Charleston? Is there even a dance called the Saint Louis?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Robert!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am
Jan Turkenburg:

MHLee, has anybody sung for you yet?
  10:15am
Listener Robert:

Yay! For both the birthday and the singing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am
Jan Turkenburg:

I hope MHLee has heard it, otherwise I'll have to sing again!

Jan Turkenburg:

Hi chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am
MHLee:

Gossamer is such a good word
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am
Jan Turkenburg:

The Dutch word for it is beautiful as well: flinterdun
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am
MHLee:

much better than cobweb
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am
Jan Turkenburg:

or when referring to a spider's fabric too: spinrag
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am
MHLee:

*claps*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am
Jan Turkenburg:

'ragfijn' is possible too, but I prefer 'flinterdun'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am
MHLee:

I play bass. I just don't change my strings. Worked for the funk brothers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am
Jan Turkenburg:

yep...
Guitar player: how often do you change strings?
Bass player: change what??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am
MHLee:

When i played upright in bluegrass you'd sometimes break a string.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am
Jan Turkenburg:

Now I think of it: I've seen a funk bass player break a string during a concert in the eighties.

Liebestruam is a great Franz Lizst piece
  Swag For Life Member 11:21am

A work project which will last 4 to 6 months has set the weekly meeting to be Thursdays at 10 AM ET. Unfortunately I have to talk a lot on it so can't mute myself and listen to WFMU while sorta listening to the meeting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am

We missed it, WR the 9/11
Hi spodi\\// hi Feldpausch, hi MH, happy birthday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am
MHLee:

Hello, thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am
spodiodi:

and you were missed, chresti! \\// was still good to see you show up at the end
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am
MHLee:

Is it Edison himself that announces most Edison records? It sounds like him on the Mary Had a Little Lamb recording
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am
Jan Turkenburg:

I don't know MHLee, Sometimes it's the artist who does the announcement, but clearly not in this case
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am
MHLee:

youtu.be... this is his voice in 1927
  11:39am
David in California:

Was I Cover The Waterfront recorded when the Netherlands was occupied? Were many recordings made during that time?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi David, yes it was. I actually got it from the compilation "Swingdansen Verboden" (swing dances forbidden), about that period. A lot of stuff was indeed forbidden. Record industry continued, but it thinned out..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am
MHLee:

I imagine you could make a fascinating documentary on it
  11:43am
David in California:

Thank you, Jan.
  Swag For Life Member 11:47am
WR:

@11:23 @spodiodi, plus one on that. either wanting to look up info on the recordings of interest or participating in lively comments are major diversion from work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am
Jan Turkenburg:

Schräge Otto is almost World's Worst Records material... I know a honkty tonkpiano has to be a little out of tune, but this...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am
MHLee:

This tune is almost identical to one used by a kid's song about the really long named town in Wales
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am
spodiodi:

this song made me think of the Laverne and SHirley theme song opening:
"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight
shlemiel, schlemazel, hasenpfeffer incorporated
We're gonna do it"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am
spodiodi:

Hasenpfeffer (who knows if it was transcribed correctly) vs Osenfeffer

anyway, thank you, Jan! i love your show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am
chresti:

Thanks Jan!
  Swag For Life Member 11:55am
WR:

Thank you Jan!
Avatar 11:55am
Ursula1000:

thanks Jan! Sounds Spectacular next wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am
Feldpausch:

Bye Jan! Thank you!!
