i was up in CT on the 5th and missed the meetup, darn it. i did get to see Handy and K8 @ Wonderville on Saturday. that was great, though i had to leave sooner than i would have liked.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Handy Haversack:

Sorry to hear it, Sylvia!

Chris! It was so good to meet you! I didn't realize you were leaving -- K8 and I were looking for you after that set. She wanted to meet you too!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Handy Haversack:

Not *our* Mr Nobody!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:11pm chris in the redwoods:

i was bummed about that, Handy. would have like to meet her as well. but tummies and forgotten ear protection conspired against it this time.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Handy Haversack:

Next time you're in town, let's make sure to get a drink someplace quieter, Chris. Really glad you enjoyed the set -- and Barbara + Marco!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Handy Haversack:

We gotta take the kittens into the kitten doctor for jabbings and pokings. Hopefully back before the end, but who knows.

Newer kitten pix in my profile: also! a pretty nifty offer there from K8 for one-of-a-kind lathe-cut 45s of a live C&K song that you request and that they will dedicate to you. Their profits from the preoder are going to the National Network of Abortion Funds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Julie and all
  3:39pm P-90:

Omicron was a totally cool album name in 2014. And it will be again, in a few years.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Julie:

hiya coela & P-90!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm coelacanth∅:

i should've asked Orion when i knew her how to pronounce her surname. i always said
dom-iss-ay ...
bummer i was in the basement and didn't hear Orion
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm coelacanth∅:

(always assumed i'd just find out eventually)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:07pm WR:

Hello Julie and Dark Drummer streamers. Have been listening to the stream since the end of Tony's show. Great sounds. Busy with work and stuff so not attentive to the comments but wanted to pop in and express my enjoyment of the tunes.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Julie:

yes! I need to get the rest of their stuff, they're actually here in NYC.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Julie:

hiya WR! good to see ya!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:07pm dreamyandseedy:

i mean i feel she totally rips that vocal melody from cocteau twins but it's so beautiful i don't even care!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Julie:

in the old mothership show/pre pandemic days I probably would have had them in to play live already
4:08pm listener phillip (in the bronx):

@Julie I liked the 1981 themed show I didnt think that music existed in 1981.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Julie:

Oh there is so much good from that year! And Tony & I will each be revisiting it on the 28th
4:10pm listener phillip (in the bronx):

@Julie I cant wait to hear it😁
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:12pm luka:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Julie:

hiya luka! rush to finish stuff before the holidays I suppose.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:17pm luka:

truly, Julie. i just need to hang in for like five more business days and then i can disappear for a little while.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:17pm luka:

hey, this cover kinda cooks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm I k e:

Wow, this might be the least repulsive Sinatra track I've ever heard! He doesn't sound quite as impossibly arrogant here as elsewhere. That said, he is still a big ol' dingus.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Julie:

orchestra got a little intense there for a bit
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Julie:

sometimes the gems are in the b-sides
Avatar 4:20pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Hey there Julie and other souls!
I love this version, especially as he credited the song to Lennon/McCartney if I remember right (poor George...)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Julie:

he did, yes! But he eventually got it right.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Aitch:

Capricorns always having a whinge
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:26pm WR:

Great hearing each WFMU DJ,s Nesmith tune selection.
4:27pm listener phillip (in the bronx):

Even sadder if your a reader of Anne Rice. She passed away on the 11th. Complications from a stroke. Soo sad to hear that. I loved every book she wrote😭😭😭😭
Avatar 4:28pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Nez not only made wonderful music during and especially after The Monkees, but also gave The Penny Arkade a chance, a pity their album was not released at the time. IT'S SO GOOD. Only those lucky enough to get the Craig Smith solo albums heard the songs (in heavily reverb-processed form) until it finally got its release in, ummm, 2004?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Julie:

amanda & therese will really paying tribute tomorrow night so make sure to tune in! yes Nez followed quickly by Anne, it was a somber weekend
4:30pm listener phillip (in the bronx):

@Julie I am still in shock when I heard the news about Anne Rice. Wow😱😭
4:31pm listener phillip (in the bronx):

Each one of her books is such a joy to read she was an exceptionally good writer.
Avatar 4:32pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Julie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm I k e:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Spankyflop:

Sting's "Moon Over Bourbon Street" was inspired by "Interview with a Vampire"
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Julie:

I don't have any solo Sting but I will check it out, thanks!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Julie:

I did go see the Lestat musical! Written by this guy
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Julie:

they never even released the soundtrack to it
4:44pm listener phillip (in the bronx):

@Julie I hope that I can re purchase some if not all of her books again including "queen of the damned" and "blackwood farm" which I am dying to read.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Julie:

I have blackwood farm somewhere, I think I never made it through it. I do remember loving the Armand book, past the initial two blockbuster titles.
Avatar 4:46pm TDK60:

Never heard this Wright album before.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Julie:

I was so focused on Nez, I will try to get some Anne-related stuff in next week
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Julie:

yeah, I never really listened to any of their solo stuff (outside of Barrett) till recently.
4:52pm listener phillip (in the bronx):

"Goodbye blue sky" by pink floyd is running thru my head
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Julie:

it was also running through the stream, phillip
4:57pm listener phillip (in the bronx):

Wow. That was weird😁

Avatar 5:08pm TDK60:

Neneh C! Heard another recent N.C. album that's real percussionishy.
Avatar 5:08pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Speaking of solo Floyd, until reading Nick Mason's autobiography I had no idea there was a choice between two albums Pink Floyd would start working on around 77(?); The Wall and Pros & cons of hitch hiking. Meaning Roger Waters had brought home demos for both. Funnily enough, tracks from Pros & cons, Gilmour's 1982 solo and R. Wright's Zee project were the very first PF-related music I ever heard, they were played on Finnish radio back in may-84
5:10pm listener phillip (in the bronx):

Shame pink floyd is no longer making music. They were pioneers of modern day electronica & trance genre
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Julie:

I don't know if their most recent album was even all that interesting, to me anyhow
Avatar 🦇 5:11pm Bas NL:

Gah, got to get me The Sensual World. Somehow this escaped me. Beautiful this Never Be Mine..
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hullo! ...Gettin' enuff WiFis from across the road but it don't last..
Reminded of Lennon in the early 70s saying if you wanted to know what TheBeatles would be then, just play their Solo LPs together ! Which - makes a truly bitchen album if cherry-pickin'...
Avatar 5:12pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@5:11 Julie: you mean the Endless River?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Julie:

that's a great point, Rev, and hiya!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...always say Floyd went from being a mad painter's band to a architectural dropout's band to a male model's band. So who needs a metaphor ??
Avatar 5:13pm TDK60:

..Blank Project is the album I said was percussionia, 2014 -Neneh
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Julie:

Cha Cha Yeah it's not BAD it's just not that as great as older stuff, maybe I need to give it another chance

@5:20 Julie: I probably heard that from WFMU the first time? Funny stuff anyway.

Because of hand-me-downs from my brother, I started with Ummagumma ! Which I think I actually tripped out on when *really* young before actual drugs. Derided as a placeholder tho' it may be by themselves.

Yes indeed

Bless you TDK. Funnily enough, I have just put a replacement ferule on my walking stick and started using it again. It's a rather splendid silver-handled rosewood one from 1896.

I was recalling yesterday. I actually saw all four Monkees together when they played London in 1997. It was at the shittiest possible venue, but looking back I'm SO glad I made the effort. Not possible any more.

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:30pm WR:

Hi David i L, ferule? I looked it up and didn't seem right. the search engine suggested ferrule which seems more likely what you put on your vintage walking stick. Or am I wrong?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:32pm David (in London):

That cat logo on the Pisi Pisi sleeve looks suspiciously suggestive, too.

WR - No, you are entirely correct and my sausage-fingered typing is entirely to blame.

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Julie:

I went to see Michael Tee's show (he does a bowie show every year) and there was some distraught lady who was complaining he wasn't enough like Bowie
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:36pm WR:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Julie:

Michael has fab taste in tunes, if I COULD have a guest I'd love to have them in for a guest set.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:46pm David (in London):

Ah, OK Julie, sorry, my mistake. In that case, Japanese kitten Reiko Ike is surely a must, as she ticks the right boxes.

Not that I, ahem, know much about this subject at all.

These are now I think the only two kittens ever to be in one of the last cool bars of north Brooklyn, The Levee. We were early for the vet. Caught the bus right away coming back. Vet says they look great. All went as well as possible.

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:59pm David (in London):

I had some ruffle shirts as a teen
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:02pm David (in London):

Considering we know Bowie for his swash-buckling fashion sense, the early 'cat perched on head' hairdo and leather sleeveless jerkin were some early missteps.

Handy, yes, a master of the look!

Avatar 🦇 6:11pm Bas NL:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Handy Haversack:

Bas, there are a lot of different timelines involved, but the safest answer is probably a guarded "duh!"
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Julie:

Bas that's what I'm trying to figure out!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:13pm David (in London):

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Julie:

haha I really SHOULD do that one David
  6:21pm Androu B.:

Good Eve, Julie & all the Souls of the Dark Night!

Is that Paul Williams on the cover? Would've never guessed he started out as a member of a band before breaking out as a solo artist. Then again, he wrote many songs for other artists and groups, so I guess it's not too hard to believe.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:22pm David (in London):

Lindsey looking like he could audition for a role in the Yeşilçam sex frenzy in that pic.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Julie:

Right, Androu? It was a surprise to me too, like a decade ago. it's a great album too.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:22pm David (in London):

Hey Androu.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Rich in Wading River:

The actual album photo of the Buckingham Nicks album is basically softcore porn from 1973
Avatar 6:24pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

This Buckingham Nicks album is my favorite from these people, I mean just a tiny bit higher on my list than their Fleetwood Mac stuff, don't know why I have such weird opinion, this just is such a good album, and the lack of official re-release is simply mindblowing in a bad way.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Julie:

yeah I've used that one before since it IS the cover but went for an outtake this time. Sounds like Stevie was not thrilled with it. also, hi Rich!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Julie:

Cha Cha seriously, this deserves a major reissue
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Rich in Wading River:

Hi Julie. Yes, I have read the same about Stevie's unhappiness about that album shot
  6:26pm Androu B.:

Hello David! How goes it on your little corner of Londinium?

Would love to hear more tracks from that Holy Mackerel album, Julie. Must have been the deepest Williams ever got to diving into the Psych Rock scene.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Julie:

I'm sure I'll play one for my big planet noise fill in at least!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Julie:

was londinium a thing or did DC invent that?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Handy Haversack:

That Buckingham Nicks album is pretty great.

Even the 19-year-old cat is eating. We're nailing it tonight!

Also going to a show tonight even though we're drooping with fatigue. But I have a creeping feeling things might all shit down again. Even cop mayor might have to recognize it.
  6:29pm B R M:

If you’re wondering how a film like XANADU was possible, see TOOMORROW
Avatar 6:31pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@6:28 Handy Haversack: in my experience 19-year old cats are the best ❤️
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:31pm David (in London):

Androu, my small part of it is just fine and dandy, thank you. You also, I hope?

Londinium was indeed a thing, the Roman city on which the later one was built. Sections of the original London Wall built by the Romans still stand to this day (and helped keep the Great Fire of 1666 at bay).
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Handy Haversack:

Er, *shut down.

She's great, Cha Cha. Though she has a habit of biting the kittens.
  6:32pm P-90:

Agreed: Buckingham Nicks is underrated
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Julie:

ah I thought they just said it on Batman so it coul be both London and not London
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Julie:

this is a most treasured relic from the time that I digitized at the station myself.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:36pm David (in London):

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Julie:

waiting for Cha Cha to tell us how they have the original pressing of this
  6:39pm Androu B.:

Thanks for the history lesson, David. I knew the actual founding of the city had to be at the time of Roman Empire's dominance. Coincidentally, the year of London's Great Fire was also the year of the founding of the township I currently live at now, Piscataway Twp., the name deriving from the term used by the natives that once settled the land to mean "It is getting dark". There is also a town in Maryland by the same name, just due south of the nation's capital.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Julie:

yeah I saw him play in this band.. knew him slightly.. then years later he was this massive techno star
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Julie:

it's still the best thing he's ever done IMHO
