I know that once Mom is gone, settling the estate will be a shitshow but at least I can sleep with my phone off again and go out and have a few without Mom being upset that I'm drinking at all. Similarly, I'll be off the hook for Thanksgiving (hello Friendsgiving in Poughkipsee with my teacher friend and her menagerie). Xmas will still be nuts but with any luck StepPerson will spend most of them in Florida and visits will be scaled down to lunch or dinner in Midtown. The one thing I will truly miss will be the Jewish holidays with Mom but will try to rally cousins in the NYC area and start some new traditions. But having said all that, yeah, BRUNCH DAMMIT I WANT MY BRUNCH BACK.

But you know what they LOVE playing here for xmas?? I Want A Hippopotamus For Xmas...apparently the song writer or singer is from here, so it's kind of like local royalty

	12:42pm Threemoons: @clarke BareBurger started in Astoria as a "family friendly" place with all kinds of innovative burgers and shakes. Alas, over the years, the more locations they opened, the more they dumbed down and played around with the menu. Used to be one of the best burgers in Astoria, and they used to have fun options like ostrich burgers, wild boar burgers, etc. Went recently and they were down from an original list of almost 30 "house burgers" to 8, and the helping sizes on the sides were mediocre.

They had a lot of menu space for Impossible Burger and Impossible Fish stuff but if i wanted to eat stuff made in a factory frankly I would just get a case of frozen White Castle.

	12:45pm Mister Dobalina: Love all this burger talk, my fav is Jackson Hole. Huge behemoth of a burger. They used to offer a great lunch special, burger..small side of wedge fries & a soda for $15, unfortunately they no longer off this deal.
	👻 12:46pm Hoboken Jack: Three Moons, the husband of my former intern Adelle Pelekanos started Bareburger! As a chain I'd say the schtick is natural ingredients and, though no ostrich, it's still a pretty big menu.

And now that the Sparrow in Astoria is re-opened I need to see if their brunch burger is still primo. TBH I love the Sparrow for their narrow shoe-string rosemary fries.

	1:10pm Carmichael: Out here in Davis, we had a burger joint called Murder Burger ("So good they're to die for"). After about 30 years, The Offended lobbied to force a name change. It is now called Redrum Burgers. I though that was a nice touch.

There also was a fantastic old school ice cream parlor in my home town of Port Chester called Nielson's kind of like Holsten's in Bloomfield with fine burgers and shakes and out of this world ice cream.
	1:42pm onthetrain: Like blue moon . The Tex-mex ,Buffalo ny food, hockey bar restaurant. They had one in nyc on 75th and 2nd? , and 3 in norther nj . But same as manna family issue broke it into two very different places . I think the Nyc one turned into a fancy bar . It was amazing to be able to get beef on wet , a margarita and a random islanders game .

I know that once Mom is gone, settling the estate will be a shitshow but at least I can sleep with my phone off again and go out and have a few without Mom being upset that I'm drinking at all. Similarly, I'll be off the hook for Thanksgiving (hello Friendsgiving in Poughkipsee with my teacher friend and her menagerie). Xmas will still be nuts but with any luck StepPerson will spend most of them in Florida and visits will be scaled down to lunch or dinner in Midtown. The one thing I will truly miss will be the Jewish holidays with Mom but will try to rally cousins in the NYC area and start some new traditions. But having said all that, yeah, BRUNCH DAMMIT I WANT MY BRUNCH BACK.

Alas, over the years, the more locations they opened, the more they dumbed down and played around with the menu. Used to be one of the best burgers in Astoria, and they used to have fun options like ostrich burgers, wild boar burgers, etc. Went recently and they were down from an original list of almost 30 "house burgers" to 8, and the helping sizes on the sides were mediocre.
