My friend wanted to enter the shotput, but he had no kilt, which (for liability purposes?), all entrants were required to wear. Or as the Scottish gym-teacher-fascist type who had the magic clipboard had it, "Nae kilt. Nae shotput." A Belgian who was there and who entered EVERY activity immediately declared that my friend could wear his kilt, which he had over jeans (very tourist kilt). He explained that we owed it to ourselves to do it. "Boys," he said, "I go many places. And wherever I go, I do what the people do. I have wrestled horses in Mongolia and chased cows in Argentina--" Cue Scottish gym-teacher-fascist type: "Aye, an' ye've tossed it in Scotland." Cue my friend and I absolutely collapsing in laughter, much to everyone else's mystification. My friend came in second! Fifteen-poond prize!

My friend wanted to enter the shotput, but he had no kilt, which (for liability purposes?), all entrants were required to wear. Or as the Scottish gym-teacher-fascist type who had the magic clipboard had it, "Nae kilt. Nae shotput." A Belgian who was there and who entered EVERY activity immediately declared that my friend could wear his kilt, which he had over jeans (very tourist kilt). He explained that we owed it to ourselves to do it. "Boys," he said, "I go many places. And wherever I go, I do what the people do. I have wrestled horses in Mongolia and chased cows in Argentina--" Cue Scottish gym-teacher-fascist type: "Aye, an' ye've tossed it in Scotland." Cue my friend and I absolutely collapsing in laughter, much to everyone else's mystification. My friend came in second! Fifteen-poond prize!
