The Nazis certainly considered Jews to be a race, so yes, the Holocaust was about race. However I think I read that Goldberg realized later that her comments were kinda tone-deaf.

I still think she's very wrong though, especially when she says she can tell someone's race by looking at them, as if it was clear-cut. I'm white, my sister is Black and my brother is Asian (both were adopted). That can make it hard for me to tell someone's race, especially Asian vs white (my sister is much younger, but I grew up with my brother). I sometimes have to ask how someone identifies or apologize for not seeing what is obvious to them, my explanation is often accepted, but not always (Americans are the most likely to call me racist over it)

	4:51am morphe': As a white (sunset park born ) alt hs teacher (17-21 y/0s) in Bed -Stuy 1990-2015 . I confronted the N word .. I said it technically meant "less than human." Students would say " no ...it is all different .. whites say "..er" and we say "..a". I would discuss the absurdity of it ... I always let it go feeling defeated.. same with other words = Queer, Gay, etc...Not sure it is possible to invert a word and take control of it without self harm??

I had a very difficult semester 1 this school year, teaching grade 9 students, many of whom were simply not ready for high school, and wound up losing the class, a first for me. Yet everyday in the hall some of those students still go out of their way to say hello to me.
