In the digital era, something like this is sort of irrelevant, as there would be databases that could be easily searched. But in a pre-digital age, every writer (and newspaper) had a decent "morgue" of old files, records, and usually, an attendant that knew the files well. In fiction, most "morgues" become the catch-all info-dumps where people can go to learn anything. In reality, most morgues were mostly records that would corroborate a paper's particular stories, and maybe files they absorb through other means.

	🎸 ♥ 6:34pm Austin Rich: Given that the author of all these stories was in the Pacific Theater of WWII, I suspect that many of these tales have elements of first-hand experience to them. (Americans getting into trouble in foreign ports, the descriptions of coming into port at the beginning of each episode.) You can really get a sense of these having some basis in reality, which I'm sure was not the case for a lot of radio writing. Scott67 & Mr. Fab: perhaps an intended double meaning? I'm pretty sure a lot of the same jokes work both then and now.

So little of the late teens and the 1920's of radio is even available to be heard, and a lot of what we know about that era is through other people describing what they remember of those years. (And, occasionally, broadcast logs.)

	🎸 ♥ 6:54pm Austin Rich: Recording technology before 1939 was not as "reliable" (or even easy to use) and the idea of recording whole radio shows (or documenting radio like that) wasn't really something people thought about in the early days. The first time anyone could string together enough recording gear to record something substantial was September 21st, 1939. archive.org...

I'm sure that these were all recorded by a listener, at home, collecting these, and had to re-use tape. (Probably had a system for recording the shows off the air, then archiving them on discs, but it's hard to say for sure.)

I'm sure that these were all recorded by a listener, at home, collecting these, and had to re-use tape. (Probably had a system for recording the shows off the air, then archiving them on discs, but it's hard to say for sure.)
