Big Bill Broonzy | Just a dream | 1938 | 1:39:46 (Pop-up) | |||||||
This Broonzy composition has no connection with later songs recorded by Carrie Underwood or Nelly; it is also sometimes given an extended title "Just A Dream I Had On My Mind" after its opening. According to a BBC documentary about Broonzy that was first screened in December 2013, the legendary bluesman wrote this song especially for the From Spirituals To Swing concerts of December 1938. Among other things, this dream sees him meeting the President at the White House, something that might have been considered extraordinary or even unthinkable for a black blues musician at that time. What was not so unthinkable was the line in which he dreams about having ten children all looking like him because Broonzy was a notorious womanizer, though it was probably a combination of alcohol and tobacco rather than women that killed him twenty years later. from: https://www.songfacts.com/facts/big-bill-broonzy/just-a-dream |

Mykhaylo Zazulyak was the first Ukrainian singer to record the National Anthem of Ukraine (''Glory and Freedom of Ukraine Has not yet Perished''), "Ще не вмерла Україна" in 1918.
Mykhaylo Zazulyak (1887-1936), Ukrainian American baritone opera singer in the United States was born in Lviv, Ukraine and at the age of 22 immigrated to the U.S. taking up residency in New York. A true Ukrainian at heart Zazulyak performed pro-bono for all Ukrainian initiated concerts. One of his major successes was a solo concert in Carnegie Hall in 1916. The hall was filled to capacity. Additionally, he was the first to systematically record his songs with acclaimed recording studios.
Throughout 1916-1929 Mykhaylo Zazulyak recorded 98 songs of which 67 were in Ukrainian, 29 in Polish, and 2 in Lithuanian. wikipedia Ukrainian anthem |
