I finished Harlem Shuffle by Colson Whitehead (and enjoyed it a lot), now reading a collection of Jill Johnston's articles (I'm a dance nerd). Does any of you have a recommendation for what I should read next?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17am
Brian D:

Cheers, Scott. Colson Whitehead, like me, a former Village Voice writer. That's where the similarities end. I just started a Denise Mina novel.
Avatar 4:18am
Don in Tampere:

Dang, there's another old song that starts with almost the same riff and I can't remember what it is!

With the reach of the station, it's always daytime or nighttime. The sun never sets on the WFMU empire (or never rises, that might be a better fit)

I'm going to wager a goodly percentage of Americans think that Australians speak "Australian," Scott.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59am
fred:

@Brian: I hear you. I've been reading The American Conservative for years, but the quality plummeted recently (the architecture/urbanism section especially). I might have to go to National Review more often. I still want to read Dreher: I hate what he says, but he used to be articulate about it (less so lately)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03am
Brian D:

@Fred, not a lot of "great" conservative thinkers on this side of the pond, I don't think. Not my end of the political spectrum, personally, but the lack of thought among many on that end means we don't really have an exchange of ideas any longer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09am
fred:

@Brian: Sad to hear. I want to read cogent takes I oppose, keeping to people I agree with is boring
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09am
Scott67:

Met a lovely guy when managing a Backpackers in Tasmania. TJ from Washington, said when he phoned his Mum & said he was in Tasmania. His Mum said Tasmania!? I thought you were in Australia, not Africa!
TJ did admit that he was expecting to have to Change his Australian Money on arrival in Tasmania.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11am
Brian D:

Keeping to people we agree with is also dangerous, Fred. And you're right. Now, to be fair, I'm only basing my assessment on the op-ed columnists in the newspapers I read.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12am
Brian D:

I'm surprised his parents had heard of Tasmania, outside of the Bugs Bunny cartoons, Scott.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15am

I guess the tasmanian devil character is the sum total of what many "know" about Tasmania

@Brian: I draw the line at xenophobia/racism. I had an argument about that with fellow leftists two days ago. The moment you go there, I'm not just tuning out, I'm actively opposing you. Which means nothing, but still
