Hello spodiodi!! Thanks for joining us this evening.
Avatar 6:41pm
djnogoodnick:

I do not know how Lady C and Stork both manage playing 3 hours a week. I'm enjoying this but it's a lot of air time to fill with fresh music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm
spodiodi:

i often have fun imagining putting a show together, followed by anxiety imagining having to put a second together. i give you all credit. can't be easy. loving this Dungen
Avatar 6:51pm
djnogoodnick:

It is scary-fun doing it for this long. I really did not prepare a whole three hours so I'm winging it.

Not the most reassuring of weeks on the calendar so far...marathon of WFMU hope will be fun and distracting.

Yes--I will be distracting with Doug Schulkind's assistance for the next two. Should be fun!!

When life gets pensive, make people send you money.
Avatar 7:45pm

String: Is pensive the right attitude for the marathon? I'm playing these now because I imagine the music should be more festive. terribilia: TY!!

Hello DJ NN.

djnogoodnick:

Hello TDK60!! Hey is that a cassette reference?
Avatar 8:16pm
TDK60:

Yes, tapes. Outta date. I thought of changing my chat board name but can't think of a new one.
  Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
WR:

Making good selections Nick. I'm not commenting much either. Family visiting so deciding on dinner takes longer than ordering and eating. Gotta love it.

TDK60, it's always good to have someone to remind us of what we used to share music between friends and music lovers before the digital age.
  Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
WR:

Oh, I meant to also write that you are making selections on the fly.
Avatar 8:22pm
TDK60:

Hi WR. I still have tapes here in the collection, just don't record many anymore.
Avatar 8:23pm
djnogoodnick:

I get the nostalgia for cassette tapes but will never, ever use one again. They are cheap crap.
  Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
WR:

cheap tapes were crap. there were hi-quality cassette tapes that hardly anyone bought. I'm probably too late to try to digitize some cassettes that I have of concerts. A friend made me excellent cassettes of Jamaican reggae 45s, but while i have a nostalgia for the mixes he did, probably all has been released on some compilation. So, yeah, mostly nostalgia but a surprising number of DYI music releases are coming out on cassette these days. I'm not tempted. But I do love the cassette programs that Tony Coulter does of cassette only releases from the late 70s and 80s.
Avatar 8:33pm
djnogoodnick:

Oh yeah, there's gotta be a wealth of great cassette-only private releases waiting to be discovered. I have only been tipped to a few, oddball 80s acts like Woo.
Avatar 8:41pm
djnogoodnick:

I guess this is what happens when I DJ for three hours. Tracks get long and weird, like they usually do on independent radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
Folsom:

I still have a bunch of BASF chrome tapes around, I wonder how they sound now, i would have to break out the tape deck.
Avatar 8:50pm
northguineahills:

I digitized a lot of 90s bands I had on cassettes, mostly Floridian indie rock and noise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Zipperhead7:

At least you're sparing us 20-minute drum solos! Re: cassettes -- they'll last forever if you take care of 'em. I've found that silver recordable CDs last about a decade until error correction renders them unplayable
Avatar 8:53pm
djnogoodnick:

Agree that CDs have absolutely no purpose anymore--not even nostalgia.
Avatar 8:54pm
northguineahills:

My old car cd player would play cdrs that were 24 years old, no problem.... None of my other cd players would.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
Folsom:

It would be nice if you could download DJ premiums instead of getting a CD, a pain in the ass to rip. one premium didn't even come with track listing, i asked the DJ for it and he never got back to me
Avatar 8:55pm
northguineahills:

I have some cds that came in hand-made artful packaging from the bands themselves....
Avatar 8:56pm
djnogoodnick:

This year premiums will be available for download OR a physical CD!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
Folsom:

FLAC download? Also are they all tagged correctly, cover art and such?
Avatar 8:57pm
djnogoodnick:

Electric Lazy Susan: Timeless Summer will be available starting tomorrow (you can pledge to any show and select any DJ's premium).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
Zipperhead7:

I've never had problems with gold medical-grade CDRs. The blanks run about $2-$3, so I use 'em for permanent storage -- too many hard drive crashes.
Avatar 8:58pm
djnogoodnick:

I did the best I could with mine, can't vouch for the others. Or even for mine. I filled out all the stuff in iTunes but they may not be flacs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm
spodiodi:

thanks, Nick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm
Folsom:

If they are mp3 or aac then I will get the CD. I wish people would put a scan of the front cover on the playlist. Michael Shelley is really good about this, he puts out a PDF of the cover/liner notes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm
StringOFperils:

Thank you!
